Grimes (sp) Supplementary Report: Hawkesbury: Thursday 13 April 2017 Race 3 Seccom Global 3YO Maiden Handicap 1100m: Luminescent Trainer Mr S. Englebrecht reported that the filly pulled up well and he will continue with its preparation. RIDING CHANGES: As C. Layt on Vega RACE 1: Phil and Tup 2YO Handicap 1000m: More Than A Samba When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the colt, App. N. Heywood stated that his instructions were to try and have the horse settle just in behind the speed with cover. He added that, after beginning awkwardly, his mount travelled well and was able to obtain a position on the rail, however, when the leaders did not fully cross to the rail he was left racing without cover. He further stated that when he placed his mount under pressure shortly after straightening it failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. He added that in his opinion the horse would be better suited ridden when able to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Bullet Shot bumped on jumping. Pendeloque near the 600m made contact with Allied Power and became slightly unbalanced. Near the 300m was bumped on the hindquarter and became badly unbalanced. Stanzan Pride A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

2 2 Allied Power near the 900m was tightened when placed in restricted room between Stage Pass and Pendeloque, which was taken in slightly by Moss Trip, which in turn was inclined to lay inwards away from Aeecee Tianhu. When questioned regarding the performance of the colt, rider M. Bell stated that his mount travelled well throughout, however, when asked for an effort on straightening, failed to accelerate on the soft track conditions. He added that the colt would derive benefit from today s run. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Mahal slow to begin. Rounding the home turn was steadied when disappointed for a run between Moss Trip and Bullet Shot, which shifted out. As a result, Mahal had to shift back to the inside of Bullet Shot to continue into clear running. Moss Trip crowded on jumping between Pendeloque and Aeecee Tianhu, which shifted in abruptly. Shortly after, Moss Trip was carried inwards and made contact with Pendeloque, which became unbalanced. A. Layt (Bullet Shot) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Moss Trip, which was checked when crowded out on to Pendeloque. A. Layt s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 23 April 2017 and to expire on Sunday 30 April 2017, on which day he may ride. She Knows bumped on jumping. Stage Pass over the concluding stages was unable to be fully ridden out to the end of the race when inclined to lay out and when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Pendeloque. Strome was a late withdrawal at 8.08 a.m. by order of Stewards. Trainer Mr G. Portelli will be interviewed. RACE 2: JRO Staff Appreciation Class 1 Handicap 1200m: Lipstick Lover began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, rider A. Gibbons stated that his mount, which was first up from a spell, raced very one-paced today and was not suited by the slow tempo. He added that near the 400m his mount was left flatfooted when the field quickened and, in his opinion, the filly would be better suited over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. De Kurnell raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 200m, after making slight contact with Exotherm, was steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of Elouera. Dreams Alive rounding the home turn, had to shift to the inside of the heels of Lipstick Lover to obtain clear running. Exotherm near the 1100m was eased after improving into a position to the inside of De Kurnell as that runner was shifting in. Don Franco began awkwardly.

3 3 RACE 3: Nix Automotive Maiden Handicap 1200m: Bon Warrior bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Over the concluding stages was unable to be fully ridden out to the line when placed in restricted room between School Fee and Polaset. Gelug slow to begin. Near the 800m made contact with the running rail and shifted out, carrying School Fee out across the heels of Bon Warrior, and had to be steadied. Thai Boxing held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, and was unable to obtain clear running until near the 300m. School Fee bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Polaset raced wide throughout without cover. Zoeasy jumped awkwardly. RACE 4: Iccons Maiden Plate 1400m: El Vee Are R. Hutchings reported that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages, and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, raced like a tired horse. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a minor abrasion to the off fore coronet. Trainer Ms G. Markwell will report back on the immediate racing future of the gelding in the days subsequent. Another Weapon bumped on jumping. Lost its near fore plate in the running. Rockin Red Rocket slow to begin. App. N. Heywood was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out, where possible, to the end of the race. Sahara Eagle bumped on jumping. Ausbred Dream When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, rider B. El-Issa stated that his mount travelled well after slipping behind on jumping. He added that his mount was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure for a short distance, and when his mount did not feel comfortable in its action he then desisted from riding his mount out any further. He further added that his mount was making a respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Gullah slow to begin. RACE 5: JRO Services Benchmark 60 Handicap 1400m: Peter John bumped on jumping. Disperse slow to begin and then bumped shortly after by Gud Onya, which shifted out. Ready Set Sing Passing the 100m, rider N. Heywood had his whip accidentally knocked out of his right hand by J. Penza, rider of Peter John. Lostasock bumped on jumping.

4 4 Crafty Tycoon began awkwardly. After initially being crossed by Gud Onya after that runner shifted out near the 1000m, a short distance later Gud Onya shifted back in, resulting in Crafty Tycoon having to be steadied. Shortly after this, commenced to race keenly and shifted to the outside of Gud Onya where it travelled wide throughout the remainder of the race. Polar Blast slow to begin. Overraced during the early and middle stages. Hung in approaching and rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the straight, proving difficult to ride. RACE 6: Bloorrail Benchmark 65 Handicap 1600m: Lady Sansa began awkwardly. Thunder Road When the pace slackened passing the 1200m, commenced to race keenly and was steadied from the heels of Star Of The Ring. Rider G. Buckley reported that his mount was not suited by the slow tempo of the race and was left flatfooted when the pace quickened from the 600m. Vain Elaine slow to begin and crowded shortly after between Monasterio, which was bumped inwards by Never Back Down, and Thunder Road, which began awkwardly and shifted in. Pulled hard through the early and middle stages and for some distance approaching the 1200m was continually steadied from the heels of Thunder Road. Continued to race keenly thereafter and near the 1000m elected to shift to the outside of Thunder Road where it raced wide for the remainder of the race. RACE 7: Prochoice Safety Maiden Handicap 1600m: Vanzetta When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the filly, G. Buckley stated that his mount travelled well with cover, however, failed to respond to his urgings when placed under pressure on straightening and was disappointing. He added that his mount in his opinion would be better suited ridden quieter and may not have run out today s journey of 1600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Celebris When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider B. El-Issa stated that he was instructed to be positive on the gelding today. He added that after beginning well and when he noticed Vanzetta being ridden along to go forward, and as he was mindful that his mount can pull hard, rather than ride his mount along he allowed Vanzetta to cross him where he was able to obtain cover. He further stated that his mount travelled well thereafter and when placed under pressure on straightening failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. He added that in his opinion the gelding did not handle today s soft track conditions and would be better suited on top of the ground. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr R. Freedman confirmed the instructions issued to rider B. El-Issa. He could offer no explanation for the horse s performance today and undertook to report back on the gelding s progress in the days subsequent. Tiznow Or Never Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Trainer Mr D. Williams advising that the gelding had been injured whilst being transported to the racecourse, Tiznow Or Never was declared a late withdrawal at a.m. Mr Williams was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

5 5 Out Of Wedlock began awkwardly. Overraced badly throughout the early stages, was continually steadied from the heels of Soul Testa and refused to settle. Was obliged to race wide without cover throughout. App. S. Clarke will be spoken to regarding raising his whip arm above shoulder height. Texas Spur When questioned regarding Texas Spur racing further forward today, App. R. King stated that her instructions were to ride the mare where comfortable. She added that after beginning well and after being caught three wide in the early stages she elected to allow her mount to stride forward and ultimately obtain the lead rather than restrain her mount and risk being caught wide. Caisson Platoon near the 1200m, when racing keenly, had to be steadied when Vanzetta (G. Buckley) shifted in when not quite clear. G. Buckley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. After being crossed by Soul Testa near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of that runner when it commenced to slacken the speed. On straightening, was steadied when disappointed for a run between Soul Testa and Out Of Wedlock, which was inclined to lay in. RACE 8: JRO Safety Signs Class 1 and Maiden Plate 2000m: Superbee slow to begin (2L). When questioned regarding his riding prior to the 600m, K. Jennings stated that his instructions were to have the gelding ridden in a handy position, however, after his mount was slow to begin he was obliged to settle further back than intended. He added that his mount travelled well with cover on the rail towards the tail of the field, with Pygmy positioned to his outside. He further added that prior to the 600m he elected to shift out in an endeavour to commence improving into the race rather than stay positioned on the rail behind Dripping Carats, which in his opinion was not travelling well. He added that shortly after straightening he was steadied when disappointed for a run between Bramwell and Vega, both of which shifted ground slightly. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity for him to improve into a run to the inside of Bramwell near the 300m, he stated that he didn t believe his mount was going well enough to take advantage of that run and as Bramwell shifted back in slightly he therefore elected to shift to the outside of the heels of that runner approaching the 200m where he was afforded clear running. Dripping Carats sustained a minor laceration to the near hind hock whilst being transported to the course, was examined by the Club s veterinary officer and was passed fit to start. G. Buckley stated that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however, failed to run on in the straight and was disappointing. As I Do raced keenly in the early stages. GENERAL: Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race 4 T. Race 2: Dreams Alive pale blue, white star, red cap. Race 7: Soul Testa yellow cap. Race 1: Trainer Mr G. Portelli (Strome) failed to withdraw by the prescribed time. Race 4: El Vee Are (Trainer Ms G. Markwell) poor performance. Race 7: Celebris (Trainer Mr R. Freedman) poor performance. Race 7: Out Of Wedlock (App. S. Clarke) to be spoken to regarding raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
