(mt) RACE 1 Gift Of Music CG&E Maiden Handicap 1400m Rheingau - To be ridden more forward; settled on pace. Trust Who - Slow to begin. Aruba - When questioned regarding racing further forward N Callow explained that that he was instructed to have his mount positioned where comfortable and he anticipated in a midfield position. He explained that after the gelding began well from the wide barrier, and when there was no position with cover available, he did not have to pressure his mount to take up a forward position where it ultimately led and travelled comfortably. Reorder - Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Jeff Kehoe was reprimanded AR137A(4)(c) for using the whip on the gelding when it was clearly out of contention. American Honor - When questioned regarding racing further back in the field today M Bell explained that he was instructed to have the gelding ridden in a position behind the leaders with cover. He explained that after beginning well, he steadied his mount in order to find cover behind the leaders. However, when runners to his inside held their positions, he was obliged to settle further back to find cover than he had intended. Sunshine Saga - Rider of 7th placegetter, A Bullock, was reprimanded under AR137A(4)(c) for using the whip on the gelding when it was clearly out of contention. Mandalong Tapit - Was inclined to lay-in when placed under pressure in the straight. RACE 2 Buy A Bale Class 2 Handicap 1200m Majestic Pedrille - a pre-race veterinary examination of the mare, after it struck its head in the wash bay and sustained a minor laceration above its offside eye, passed it suitable to race. Yeoman - To be ridden with cover; settled back. Over-raced in the middle stages. Dixie Chick - Was slow to begin. Kitteau - When questioned regarding the performance, J Penza explained that his mount travelled well in a midfield position, however, was under pressure from the 500m and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added that in his opinion, the gelding was unable to quicken with the allotted 59 kilograms. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

2 Sojournist - Lost its near-hind plate shortly after the start. RACE 3 Farm Rescue Maiden Plate 1860m High Dude To be ridden more forward; settled off pace. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Grey Eminence - Slow to begin. Expiredtime - Slow to begin Mr Kylin - Slow to begin. Roc Sands Hung out making the home turn. Delos App. R Hunt pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on 8 occasions prior to 100m. App Hunt was fined $300. App Hunt was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using her whip on 2 consecutive strikes prior to the 100m. Pick Of The Day - When questioned regarding the performance J Adams explained that his mount pulled hard throughout the event and consequently failed to finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr P Webster reported that it would now be spelled. Smiling Manolito - When questioned regarding the performance R Hutchings explained that he was able to establish a position with cover in the early stages rounding the first turn, however, when the gelding then commenced to over-race badly and got its head up on a number of occasions, he was unable to maintain that position with cover and as a result he allowed his mount to stride forward and settle in a position outside the leader near the 1200m. He explained that as a result of his mount overracing badly, it failed to finish the race off, and he recommended removing blinkers from its gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative C Heuston undertook to report back in relation to the immediate plans. Neruda - When questioned regarding the performance, S Lisnyy stated that his mount travelled well behind the leaders throughout the early and middle stages, however, was under pressure as far out as the 800m, and although his mount was bumped heavily by Nothing Too Hard near the 600m it was a beaten horse at that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Buchanan advised that Neruda would now be spelled. Nothing To Hard Rider N Callow pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. N Callow was fined $300. RACE 4 First Creek Winery 2yo Maiden Plate 1200m Mary Magpie - Over-raced in the middle stages. Was held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Sangita - Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Lucky Helmet - Was steadied shortly after the start and shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Yellow Furze - When questioned regarding the performance, K Latham explained that he was instructed to be positive from the wide barrier in an attempt to take up a forward position. He explained that he rode his mount along to take up a forward position, however, the filly did not travel comfortably and as a result was left racing wide and without cover throughout the race. He added that as a result the filly was under pressure from as far out as 600m and weakened in the run to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative R Nunn indicated that it would now be spelled.

3 Lord Byron - Hung in when placed under pressure in the straight. Commander Bell - An inquiry was opened into the reasons surrounding A Bullock being dislodged from Commander Bell approaching the 300m. Evidence was taken from A Bullock (Commander Bell), G Buckley (Gannett Peak), N Callow (Quick Nick) and M Bell (Sangita). On the evidence it was established that after trailing Gannett Peak for some distance making the home turn and in the early part of the straight, A Bullock then attempted to shift to the outside of Gannett Peak to obtain clear running. However, Gannett Peak, which was weakening noticeably, shifted out marginally despite the efforts of its rider and Quick Nick, which had improved to the outside, shifted in slightly despite the efforts of its rider. Commander Bell, after being disappointed for that run, was then positioned awkwardly close to the heels of Gannett Peak for some distance before ultimately striking that runner s heels, blundering and dislodging A Bullock. As Stewards could not be satisfied that the incident was due to the actions of any rider, no action was taken. Following that incident, A Bullock was assessed by ambulance officers and the race club doctor and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Commander Bell to be lame 2/5 in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr B Partelle undertook to report back with the immediate racing plans. RACE 5 Kearney Transport Benchmark 70 Handicap 900m Invincible Gangsta - When questioned regarding the performance of Invincible Gangsta S Linsyy explained that the after his mount began only fairly from the wide barrier and when runners to the inside showed superior speed in the early stages, he was unable to take up a forward position and as a result settled back in the field, where his mount travelled only fairly and hung out for some distance making the home turn. He added that his mount was one-paced in the run to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Buchanan advised that the gelding would now be spelled. Goldfinch - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Billabong Cindy J Penza was cautioned against a practice of using his whip when his mounts are out of contention. RACE 6 Rural Aid F&M maiden Handicap 1400m Palmateer To be ridden back; settled back. Sazavee - When questioned regarding her performance N Callow explained that from the wide barrier he rode his mount along to take up a forward position, however, he was unable to obtain a position with cover and ultimately raced wide and without cover throughout the event. He explained that his mount was quickly under pressure from the 600m and weakened thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Bonnieux - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Asset Class Over-raced for some distance in the early stages and approaching the first turn was eased away from the heels of Zaffirina which was taken in after being crowded for some distance by Dream Genie (R Hutchings). R Hutchings was told to exercise more care. Livia s Story - Over-raced in the early stages and got its head up on a number of occasions. Was held up for some distance in the early part of the straight and had to be shifted out to avoid the weakening Sazavee near the 350m to continue into clear running. Nakoda - When questioned in relation to racing further forward M Weir explained that she was instructed to have the filly settle in a forward position, however, did not anticipate leading. She explained after beginning particularly well she rode her mount along to take up a forward position and when no other runner to her inside elected to take up the lead, she allowed the filly to stride forward and ultimately lead.

4 Dream Genie - Rounding the home turn became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening Sazavee, and as a result shifted out and made contact with Palmateer. RACE 7 Support Our Farmers Class 1 Handicap 1400m Genoveffa To be ridden back in the field; settled back. Ticket To Riches - Slow to begin. For some distance approaching the home turn, when inclined to lay out towards the heels of Seababe, was steadied. Boomtown Rat - Slow to begin. Kailenny - Over-raced for some distance in the early stages. Excelsior - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Surjin - Was inclined to hang out from the 900m. Ordos Honor Rider Y Ichikawa was unable to ride his mount over the concluding stages when being steadied after being crowded by Genoveffa and J Grisedale shifted in when not fully clear. J Grisedale was told to ride more carefully. Sahara Emaar - When questioned about the performance, M Bell explained that he was instructed to have his mount positioned forward and he was left with the option to lead if unable to find cover. He explained that from the wide barrier, he rode his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position, and when it was evident that he would be unable to find cover passing the 1200m, he was then obliged to make some use of his mount to cross King Hewitt and Rosherville in order to take up the lead. He stated that after establishing the lead near 1000m, Sahara Emaar then raced keenly for a distance thereafter, and bearing in mind the manner in which his mount raced in the early and middle stages, he did not place his mount under pressure until approaching the 300m, where the gelding initially responded to his riding before weakening over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 8 Polytrack Provincial Championships Qualifier 1400m Bon Amis - Bounded on jumping resulting in rider N Callow becoming unbalanced in the saddle and losing ground (2L). Was held up in the early part of the straight and did not obtain completely clear running until being shifted to the inside of Hallelujah Boy inside the 200m. Hallelujah Boy - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. J Adams, rider of 5th placegetter, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out fully to the finish when still in contention. All From Scrap - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Raiden For some distance approaching the first turn and then throughout the middle stages Raiden over-raced. For some distance in the early part of the straight Raiden had difficulty obtaining clear running. Heartlings - To be ridden back; settled midfield and over-raced. Kool Vinnie - Was held up in the early part of the straight and was then unable to obtain clear running until the 300m. Man Of Choice - Approaching the 800m commenced to over-race and had to be checked away from the heels of Princess Posh. Near the 500m had to be steadied away from the heels of Reach For Heaven (A Bullock), which shifted out when not fully clear. A Bullock was reprimanded under AR137(a).

5 Bold Chance Near the 250m was briefly crowded for room and had to be steadied between Virgilio (R Brewer), which initially shifted out, and Waimea Bay (A Gibbons), which shifted in marginally. Both A Gibbons and R Brewer were told to exercise more care in similar circumstances. GENERAL: Summary of whip use The Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race 3 W Costin (Timeless Melody) 6 strikes prior to the 100m Race 8 J Grisedale (Heartlings) 6 strikes prior to the 100m Race 8 J Adams (Hallelujah Boy) 8 strikes prior to the 100m Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Sunshine Saga, Rheingau (x2), Mandalong Tapit, Reorder Race 2: Majestic Pedrille, Yeoman Race 3: Delos, Grey Eminence, Smiling Manolito, Pick Of The Day Race 4: Gannett Peak, Quick Nick, Sneak Preview, Lucky Helmet Race 5: Nic s Vendetta, Alliterate Race 6: Dream Genie, Mist On Monaro, Asset Class, Highway Race 8: Reach For Heaven (x2), Bon Amis (x2), Virgilio, Brother In Arms, Man Of Choice, Hallelujah Boy, All From Scrap, Concessions, Princess Posh, Cambage, Heartlings, Waimea Bay SUMMARY Fines: Race 3: App R Hunt AR137A(5)(a)(ii) overuse of whip - $300.
