8 GHJA Class Specifications Hunter Over Fences To be shown over at least eight fences at the required height. To be judged on performance and soundness unless otherwise stated. Hunter Under Saddle To be shown at a walk, trot and canter. Light contact with the horse s mouth is required. Martingales not permitted. Courses Hunter courses will simulate fences found in the hunt field such as brush, wall, in-and-out, oxer, post and rails, gate, aiken, bank, coop and panels. All hunter divisions will be held in accordance with GHJA rules. Hunter Divisions with less than 3 entries may be combined. Pony must possess and present to the office a GHJA or USEF measurement card to compete in any Pony Hunter division. Equitation Short Stirrup Equitation Open to qualified Short Stirrup rider. Fence height 2. Long Stirrup Equitation Open to qualified Long Stirrup riders. Fence height 2 3. Equitation 11 & under Open to Juniors whose 12th birthday is not before Decem-ber 1, Fence height 2. To be shown over a modified jumper-type course of at least 8 fences. The course must include at least one oxer and one change of direction. To be judged on seat, hands, guidance, and control of the horse. A minimum of 6 riders, if available, will be required to show on the flat. The flat performance of the selected riders shall count for 25%. Three entries must compete both phases for qualification points to count. Judges may require riders to perform any USEF test Management has the option of placing two tests from USEF 1-9 in lieu of the 25% flat phase. Three entries must complete the over fences and testing requirements for qualification points to count. The J.D. Pounds and Laura Tison Adult Medal cannot run concurrently with any other classes. GHJA Pony Medal Ponies with measurement cards to be ridden by Jun-ior riders. Small ponies to be ridden by Junior riders 12 years of age or under to be jumped at 2. Equitation Challenge GHJA Equitation Challenge Open to all Junior and Adult Amateur GHJA members on horses or ponies. To be judged at a walk, trot, and canter. Competitors will be asked to perform at least two of the following USEF tests chosen by the Judge: #1-Halt (4 to 6 seconds) or Halt and Back; #2-Hand gallop; #9- Ride without stirrups; #15-Change leads on a line demonstrating a simple or flying change of lead; #17- Canter on the counter lead (Note: no more than twelve horses may counter canter at one time). Martingales are not permitted. Riders receiving outside assistance or coaching while in the are-na will be eliminated. Riders who have won the final GHJA Equitation Challenge in the previous three years are no longer eligible to compete in this class. November 1st is the cut-off date for riding in qualifying classes at shows. Pre-Children s Hunter Open to Junior riders on horses or ponies; horse/rider com-bination may not have competed at 3 3 or higher at any Local or Regular Member horse show in the pre-vious 3 years. Fence height 2 6. Horse rider combo MAY NOT crossenter into children s hunter. Pre-Adult Hunter Open to Adult Amateur riders on horse or ponies; horse/rider combination may not have competed at 3 3 or higher at any Local or Regular Member horse show in the previous 3 years. Fence height 2 6. Horse Rider Combo MAY NOT cross enter into Adult hunter. Modified Hunter Open to all horses or ponies ridden by juniors, ama-teurs or professionals. Fence height 2 9. Open Hunter Open to all horses or ponies ridden by juniors, ama-teurs or professionals. Fence height 2 6 or 3. Rider may show at either height group at rider s or trainer s discretion. Children s Hunter Open to all horses ridden by a Junior. Fence height 3. Horse/rider combo MAY NOT cross enter into Pre- Children s Hunter. Adult Amateur Hunter Open to Adult Amateur riders on horses or ponies. A pony ridden in the Adult Amateur Hunters may not cross enter into any Pony Hunter division or Junior Eq-uitation classes or Junior Medal at the same show. Fence height 3. Short Stirrup Hunter Open to riders ages 12 years and under, on horses or ponies, in their first or second year of showing over fences higher than 18 in any horse show. NOTE: Participation in once around-twice around or beginner and crossrail classes will not count as part of these two years as long as the jump height does not exceed 18. Riders may show in Short Stirrup classes for two consecutive years. The two separated or divided in any manner. If a rider ages out of Short Stirrup after one year of eligibility, the rider may compete in Long Stirrup Hunter and Equitation divisions for the next consecutive show year, concluding the continuous two years of eligibility for these division. Short and Long Stirrup eligibility are to counted together: a rider may compete in Short and/or Long Stirrup divisions for a total of two consecutive show years. Year will begin December 1st and end November 30th. Fence height 2. Throughout the competition year in order for Short Stirrup eligibility to remain intact and in order for Short Stirrup riders to remain eligible to show in Short Stirrup classes at the year end GHJA Finals horse show and to remain eligible for GHJA year end awards in the Short Stirrup divisions:(i) A short Stirrup rider on a pony may cross-enter into schooling Pony (2 or 2 6 ), age group equitation and non recognized classes where fence heights do not exceed 2 6 (ii) A Short Stirrup rider on a pony MAY NOT cross-enter into : Pony Hunter, GHJA Pony Medal, Open Hunter at any height, any medal classes recognized or non recognized, nor any non-recognized classes where fence heights exceed 2 6. A Short Stirrup rider on a horse MAY cross-enter into: Pre-Children s Hunter 2 6 age group equitation, and non-recognized classes where fence heights do not exceed 2 6 Hunter Classes Long Stirrup Hunter Open to Amateur and Junior riders, 13 years of age and older, in their first or second year of showing on ponies or horses over fences higher than 18 in any hunter show. Note: Participation in once around-twice around or beginner and crossrail classes will not count as part of these two years as long as the jump height does not exceed 18. Adult riders who are re-entering the show ring after an absence cannot have shown over fences higher than 2 6 in the past 5 years. A rider may cross enter only into Hunter divisions and age group equitation at the same show if fence height does not exceed 2 6, not to include any medal classes. Riders may enter non-recognized classes where fence heights do not exceed 2 6. Riders may not enter under saddle or flat classes that do not fall within these parameters. Riders may show in Long Stirrup classes for two consecutive years. Year will begin December 1st and end November 30th. Fence height 2 3. See current GHJA Rule Book for further clarification regarding eligibility.
9 Protective Headgear- All exhibitors are required to wear properly fitting snug protective headgear on the show grounds when mounted. All juniors must wear ASTM/SEI Approved protective headgear with harness secured when mounted. The Sanctioning Associations encourages all riders to wear protective headgear passing or surpassing current applicable ASTM/SEI standards with harness secured while riding anywhere on the show grounds. It is the responsibility of the rider, parent, guardian, or trainer of the junior exhibitor to see to it that the headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards and is in good condition and properly fitted. Conduct- Any act of discourtesy to a Judge, Show Official, or staff member on the part of any trainer, owner, rider, or groom will immediately disqualify any horse with which they are associated and all entry fees will be forfeited. No refunds will be made. Schooling- Schooling in the show rings without permission is prohibited at all times. Rings will be available for ticketed warm-up on Friday afternoon. The rings will also be available after the show each day and for limited schooling in the morning before the show. There will be no schooling over fences in the morning. Gate personnel have the authority to scratch riders who do not follow directions. Management may restrict schooling if conditions warrant. Poling and Off-sets- Manual poling and the use of bamboo off-sets are prohibited for all horses competing. Any rider, trainer, groom, or other person involved with poling or off-setting will be subject to a $500 fine. Lunging- Lunging will be restricted to designated areas. There will be no lunging in show rings or schooling rings. Class Rules- Classes shall be conducted in accordance with the Sanctioning Association. Open classes will be conducted in accordance with USEF guidelines. Attire- Jackets will be worn for hunter and equitation classes. Tucked-in polo shirts can be worn in the jumper ring. For classics and medals, formal attire is required. In extremely warm conditions, for the safety of our competitors, jackets will be waived. Eligibility- Ponies must have a GHJA or USEF measurement card to be presented at check-in. Three Minute Rule- The three-minute rule will be in effect at all times. Classes will be canceled if there is not a competitor in the ring within three minutes of the start of the time clock. Courtesy Circle- Management may restrict the courtesy circle with a mandatory dotted line. Holding Classes- Under no circumstances will a flat class or under saddle class be held for a trainer conflict, unless the conflict concerns the horse being in another ring. Equitation and jumper classes may, at management's discretion, follow a posted order of go. Management will designate priority rings daily. Hunter Courses- Courses shall simulate obstacles found in the hunt field such as coops, roll tops, natural rails, gates, walls, etc. Hunter Classes- Hunter classes shall be judged on performance, manner and soundness. Under saddle classes shall be walk, trot and canter. Equitation Classes- Equitation classes shall be judged on seat, hands, guidance, and control of the horse. Jumper Classes- Courses may consist of any combination of brush, gates, coops, roll tops, oxers, post and rails, walls, water, etc. Classes will be judged on time and soundness. Ties- All ties involving first place will be jumped off. All ties not involving first place will be decided by time. Champion and Reserve Champion- To be awarded to the two horses with the most points in the division. Both will be awarded in classes in which at least three horses competed. To be eligible for Champion or Reserve competitor must the in the top four in over fences points. Point System: 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, 1/2 Prize Money- Prize money will automatically be deducted from your show bill. Overage checks will be mailed within 30 days of the show. Checks will not be issued without a valid social security number or federal identification number. In order to be eligible for prize money, the horse must be entered in at least one other class during the show day. General Information (continuted)... Add-backs: If classics are run as add-backs, the pay outs will be 1 st -40%, 2 nd - 30%, 3 rd -20%, 4 th -10%. Stakes Classes-Must be entered in the entire division to be eligible payback. Adult Hunter, Children s Hunter, Pre-Childrens/Adult, Short Stirrup Hunter, Long Stirrup Hunter, Pony Hunter Payback: $20, $15, $ 10, $5. Elite Rated Classes.70m Open to all horses, ponies, juniors, amateurs, and professionals eligible to jump 2 3. Will be shown at 2 3. Walk/Trot Open to riders in their fist or second year of showing, who have not jumped over 18 inches.. Once/Twice Around for riders in their first or second year of showing and have not jumped over 18 inches. Cross rail-riders must be in their first or second year of showing, and may never have shown over jumps larger than 18. Ground Rails-Riders must be in their first or second year of showing, and may never have shown over jumps larger than 18. Pre Hunter/Rider- for green horses. Horses that have not jumped over 2 feet. Open to riders in their first or second year of showing over fences not greater than 18. Courses will be simple verticals (no wider than a rail). Rider must declare one fence height. 18 or 2 Schooling Hunter-Open to all horses, ponies, juniors, amateurs, and professionals eligible to jump 2. Will be shown at 2.
