2 Monbulk Pony Club Inc Incorporation Number A R Presidents Update Welcome to July Rally, the first rally of the new membership year. To those members who have already renewed their membership, thank you. To those members who are planning to renew, but haven t as yet, please ensure you do so well before Sunday s rally. Remember that the renewal has to be approved by COM and we would hate for you not to be able to ride this rally, because you didn t renew in time. As you would be aware, our Awards Night was held last Saturday. This was a fantastic night, thoroughly enjoyed by the members who were able to attend. Congratulations to all award recipients and extra BIG congratulations to Patrick Goggin who won the prestigious High Point Trophy. This was thoroughly deserved, and its great to see a boy s name on the trophy! To the organising committee and all members that helped in creating the wonderful props, setting up the fairy lights, making the hobby horses, organising the door prizes, cleaning up, setting up, organising the meat, the trophies, the flowers, the hay bales, the heating, the lolly bags and the list goes on, a sincere and heartfelt thank you! Your time and effort has made the night a memorable one and I know by the sound of the happy and delighted squeals and laughter I heard during the night, the members had a wonderful time. The Winter Woollies show is rapidly approaching Sunday 29 th July, and Julie is doing a wonderful job pulling this together BUT she can t do it on her own! An was sent to all members asking you to nominate a duty you can do on the day. Please ensure you get back to Jenny our Secretary ASAP advising her of what job you will do. Remember, it s best to get in first and pick something you re happy to do COM will allocate jobs to members who don t reply to Jenny s as we NEED ALL MEMBERS to help out and make this competition a success. There will also be help required for Set Up on Saturday 28 th July: details to be advised by shortly. A reminder that the August rally is our PINK rally this will be a fundraiser for Breast Cancer and we want to see as much pink as possible on the day, so please start thinking about what you can do to help us achieve this and raise some money for a very worthy cause! I'm sure you will agree what a great night Awards Night was, the Cowboy Theme was such a great idea was nice to see so many getting in the spirit with their fantastic outfits! Special thanks to the RWOH crew who worked so hard over many weeks to make a memorable night for the entire club - Thank You All So Much. July rally will be a busy day. James Harvey Horse Dentist will be here from 10am. If you have listed your horse for James's service, please see the running sheet on the office window and desk for approx. times. We also welcome another special Visitor Susie Walker who is going to Demonstrate Working Equitation for All members - then each of you will have a session with her today. An Un Mounted Demo will begin first up in the morning, then there is time for you all to gear up to begin your riding day. Working Equitation helps build a strong willing relationship with your horse partner, something i think every horse rider/owner is looking for. Please also remember, renewing memberships please consider the hard working committee members & don't leave this to the last minute! Unfortunately if you do not see your name assigned to a riding group, you will be unable to ride as your membership request may not have been processed and therefore you are not covered by insurance. Riding groups will be listed when you sign in before the riding demo. Riding Groups will alter from time to time depending on Opt In & Outs - they are designed to change accordingly! July is also our Winter Woollies Show! Sunday 29th July, the program is now available. Many visitors will come to the club on that day, Monbulk Pony Club is well known for making them all welcome. There is opportunity for everyone to ride in a class or two - not to mention a list of jobs to be filled! 6 Working Equitation Special Event July Rally We have a special event for our July Rally! Please welcome Susie Walker, who is one of the chief instructors in the Yarra Valley Working Equitation Club. Susie will be giving you an introduction to Working Equitation. What is working Equitation? Working Equitation is a fascinating and fun sport, designed to promote the classical principles and varied styles of working riding culture from different countries. Originating in Portugal, Spain France and Italy it is based on traditional Southern European methods used to train horses for fieldwork. The first European Championship was held in 1996 in Italy and the popularity of the sport soon spread to other countries. Working Equitation is now a 4 Phase Equestrian discipline and well established as an international sport in 19 countries and overseen by the World Association for Working Equitation (WAWE) who govern the annual World Championship events. Objectives Working Equitation aims to promote classical horsemanship; riding with respect for the mental and physical nature of the horse. Harmony, ease and partnership with the horse is paramount.

7 Working Equitation Special Event July Rally What will you learn? Working Equitation combines the beauty of dressage, the thrill of speed events, the precision of a trail class, and the skill set of a working cattle station horse. Working equitation beings together all aspects of training the horse and rider. Working Equitation broadens a horse s scope and teaches him to be a good partner in any equine sport you care to pursue. It is especially good for improving dressage skills. The obstacle course is not only fun, it hones your aids. For instance, at the lower levels (L1/L2) you may be working on basics like bending, leg yields and transitions. At the higher levels (L3/L4), you may find yourself doing flying changes around a line of poles, the poles giv your horse a visual reference for the timing and purpose of the change. Developing the collection and balance required to canter around a very tight set of cloverleaf barrels is an excellent interim step toward achieving good canter pirouettes. Introducing a horse to many of the obstacles serves a practical purpose, especially if he regularly goes out for a hack. He learns what it s like to open and close a gate, jump a log on the path and cross a bridge.

8 Working Equitation Special Event July Rally How will the day work? Morning We will be running a ridden demo of the Working Equitation course. Susie is bringing her horse and will ride and demonstrate the sport. Rally sessions You will then split into your normal groups. Susie will focus on each group and help them through the obstacles and some of the exercises. Each rider may need a parent helper. Susie will guide you on what you need to do, but parents please be prepared to help.

9 ATTN Yard users If you use our yards, please DO NOT throw manure over the fence towards the road. The area immediately behind our yards and up to the road is one of the most important environmental areas in the Yarra Valley. There is a rare species of plant that has only been found in this one area. If you throw manure into this area you will introduce weeds which may destroy this plant. Our lease on the grounds will be cancelled if this continues, and your club will have to relocate. PLEASE remove any manure you may have accidentally left behind in the past. The area on the roadside of the yards must be kept manure free. PLEASE put all manure in our dedicated manure yard.

10 Weekly Kids Club for Riders with Horses Are you interested in a weekly kids club focused on you and your horse? Want to get a weekly riding lesson and spend some time with your riding friends? If you are then read on! We are seeing if there is interest in starting a Riders With Horses program at the Monbulk pony club. The program would be every Saturday morning during school term. You will receive a ridden session on your horse, and a theory session. Morning tea provided. You will get to spend your Saturday mornings enjoying horse riding, and make some new friends. If you are interested please contact Stuart on ** Update We have had just one enquiry, so at this stage we can t start this program, but if you are interested then please reach out asap.

14 Monbulk Pony Club Rally Duty 2017/2018 Please OPT IN to the rally to let us know if you can make your duty, the OPT in form has this new section: Club Room Duty Job Description - You will need to be available for the day to carry out the following duties. Please negotiate with the other rostered member on duty as to who will carry out each duty. If you cannot attend the rally for whatever reason please find a fill in otherwise we will not run a canteen for that rally. Canteen The Canteen needs to be open from 9am until 3pm. The Canteen needs two people during the lunch busy period. BBQ One of the team rostered on to clubroom duty will need to set up, cook, clean and pack up the barbeque. The barbecue should be set up ready for cooking by 9am Toilets and Bins Check the toilets are clean at the commencement of rally and they are stocked with toilet paper and hand towel. Clean toilets at end of rally. Place bins on roadside at end of rally ready for rubbish collection. Floors/Tidy Up - Sweep club room floors and entry at end of rally. Mop the Toilets and Kitchen. ** Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more details or questions 14

15 RWOH Do you have spare time on a Saturday morning? Would you like to help our RWOH program? We are looking for assistants who would be able to be paired up with some of our junior RWOH riders and either lead or support them in general. 16 Club Maintenance List The following jobs need to be performed to maintain our grounds. If you require jobs added please contact the committee. If you or anyone you know has time to come up and do these jobs the grounds are open on a Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Job List Move mulch at entrance into yards Reseal the kitchen floor (Paint) Replace main entrance gate posts Replace and rehang lower entrance gate Draw out plans for yard area upgrade, Remove and demlolish yards that are no longer require Repair yards that remain Install lower rails on all yards to make them suitable for ponies Trim bushes between seat area and the arena on the lower arena. Remove bushes that are not suitable. Replace with a more suitable plant species Clear area for shipping Container jumps sheds for the Arena 2 and Arena 3 Sort and catalogue equipment stored in shed. Document with photos of each type of equipment and create an inventory. Create an Asset Register containing this information and work with MCARC to confirm ownership. 18 Monbulk Pony Club Inc Incorporation Number A R Pony Club Rules Please arrive promptly to each lesson, if you are late, please ask your instructor before joining the group if already started If you arrive early for your session or the instructor is not present, you may enter the arena and wait, but you must only walk or halt. You must not use any equipment without the instructor present. Gear check will be done by your instructor, you may enter the arena prior to your session, but please be aware there may be no supervision until the instructor is present. Gear check is focused on your safety and your horses welfare. If your gear is either not safe or not suitable for your horse then you will not be allowed to ride until the issue is rectified. If you are late and miss gear check you MUST contact the DC and arrange a gear check before you commence riding Have your horse and yourself looking neat and presentable for each lesson If you are leaving early or not attending a lesson your group has been allocated, please let your instructor know and advise DC. Come to each lesson with a positive attitude and open mind! We Never Stop Learning and each session is a new opportunity. Parents, Please refrain from talking to your child and or instructing them from the side lines. Leave the instructing to the Coach! If you need to provide urgent feedback please seek out the DC and discuss. MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN!!!! ITS NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT ITS MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!! 18

20 Spirit - Welsh A Pony for Sale I m selling my gorgeous Welsh A pony, Spirit. Spirit is a 12hh, bay 16 year old gelding pony. Spirit was my first pony and he s a great pony for a young rider with some experience. Spirit s gentle and responds to his rider quickly and calmly. I loved riding him at dressage and jumping competitions. Spirit is a great trail riding horse and he can do everything at pony club. He s a great jumper and is a great cross country pony. Spirit handles cars well and mounts floats easily. We re looking for a good home for Spirit, with a young rider who will be able to look after him well and work him regularly.
