3 Monbulk Pony Club Inc Incorporation Number A R Presidents Update Presidents Report June 2017 Welcome to June Rally I think everyone will agree that our Freshman s Day was a success, the weather was fantastic and although some of the older people did have to wait a bit longer than expected everyone had a great time and achieved something. A big thank you to all who came and help set up on the Saturday, and helped through out the day on Sunday, it is great to see the club all pulling together and making it easy for everyone to run such a fun event. I hope all the members got to have some fun and thanked their parents for organising everything. Don t forget that its membership renewals time, please ensure that all your paperwork is handed into Stuart and you get online and register. This year I will as you all some questions when you hand in your membership forms, one of the big questions I would like you all to think about is what do you want out of pony club and what would you like us to introduce into our rally plan. Please also have a think about what zone duty you are going to commit to for the upcoming year. I will try and have chat with you all when you hand in your grading cards but if I do miss you please come and have a chat with me. Remember if you are intending on competing in July we need your paperwork early to ensure we can get your new grading card filled in and ensure all horses are correct and that the correct grading has been put in, please make sure when you pick up your new card that all the information is correct including spelling of your name and your horses name. Put your new card in the cover and keep the card in the folder and remove the card, you only need to keep the 2 cards in the folder for competitions. Can all members also please remember to opt in for Rally as soon as possible, it is extremely difficult for Carola to organise a great rally when she doesn t know how many people will be attending, so if you haven t opted in you may need to join another group or may not get the sessions you really wanted. Have a great day Julie
4 Monbulk Pony Club Inc Incorporation Number A R DC s Update dc@monbulkponyclub.com.au Hello Monbulk Pony Club, Welcome to June Rally. With winter now upon us, fingers crossed for a pleasant Rally Day! First may i start with saying a Big Thank you to All Members for helping with Set Up and Pack Up last rally. May was a wet one as we all experienced, but the soggy weather didn't stop you all from helping - so thank you. Your help was also noticed for our Freshman's day held the other week. Freshman's while seems like an easy thing to attend, is a lot of work and needs help from many different areas. The club had a great turn out for set up, and then backed up by help on the day. Events like these don't just happen, it takes a lot of work for many weeks. Yolanda our resident Chief Instructor worked all day Sunday, not to mention the planning and Saturday set up. Thank you Yolanda, your coaching and care for all riders was exactly what was required and something MPC is very lucky to have. Monbulk Pony Club Winter Woolies is our next event. Once again your President Julie is running the show, and has already put in many hours of arrangement's. There is something for Everyone at this event so please make sure you present your self and your horse/pony and support your club. If you think Showing is not your thing, then think again! Julie has planed a program that suits everyone. Winter Woolies is just that, this event is designed to highlight Winter Pony Club Ponies and just how versatile they are. Everyone is welcome so remember to tell your horsey friends! Riding Groups have changed a little, i ask you all to please make sure you have looked at the groups so you can be best prepared for your rally day. When the New Financial Year (July) takes effect, you may see some more changes so please be aware. Horse Dentist James Harvey is with us this rally. He will be arriving around 11am, and will start seeing clients from 11:30. The below is the list of horses booked, Shetland horses will start and after lunch will be the Clydesdale & Friesian horses - this will be confirmed on rally day. If you had forgotten to book your horse in, im sure James will be happy to fit you in throughout the day. Remember you will need to pay James Directly, $60.00 per horse is fantastic value. James will also hold a discussion during Lunch time meeting. Please make sure you have yourself ready for this by 12:30 in the club rooms. 9 The Hosking Family The Hosking family descended on Monbulk Pony Club in 2003, when Erica transferred from Lakes Entrance PC on Toby. A year or so later after intense lobbying, Janis was allowed to join as a lead rein rider on the legendary Shetland, Poppy. Janis and Poppy soon earned the privilege of being the first combination through the new water jump, primarily as Janis was the only rider whose horse would agree to go through it! Erica rode the Welsh pony Tammy to State championship Grade 3 dressage five years in a row, as well as Novice EA dressage. They won Lilydale Horse Trials Grade 4 in 2014 and a showjumping championship at Ayr Hill and our own MPC Combined training competition at Grade 4. When Leanne joined the family from America, she attended pony club on Toby and then Fleckie and finally was lucky enough that Erica agreed to hand over Merlin the Magnificent Clydesdale Cross.
10 The Hosking Family, cont Erica moved on to Avoca Flowergirl in 2010, a combination that powered to success almost from the get go, qualifying for the Novice ride off at the Victorian Interschools Championships and winning the Taylor Farley Award for highest placed junior in the Novice class. This after only a few weeks together. They represented Victoria at the PCA Nationals in Perth in 2013, and have won several rugs at Grade 3 Horse Trials. They are now competing at Advanced level official dressage and are only a squeak away from Prix St George and FEI level. Leanne moved back to America and Janis moved on to Toby, winning the MPC Grade 5 combined training competition and then onto Merlin, almost immediately qualifying for the State dressage championships at Grade 3. Partnered with Erica and Daisy, the girls went very close to winning the inaugural State Championship Pairs Ride in 2014, 3 rd on a count back out of 21 pairs. Janis also rode Tammy in Games, captaining the MPC team to the PCAV Games State Championships in Janis also had an all-too-brief 5 months on Appy, a ripper little pinto pony purchased from another MPC family. Janis also had a ball on Pretzel, our Prix St George schoolmaster, and is probably the family member with the most flying changes under her belt. As you can see, the Hosking family attendance cards can get pretty full! Janis moved on to Kennedy, a home bred ASHXTB and they competed successfully until late 2016 when Kennedy was sadly euthanased after breaking a bone in his knee. She then rode Max, Daisy s younger brother. Erica is bringing along another homebred WB X TB, Angelo, as well as Nigel, Kennedy s older brother. Erica is now studying for her NCAS Level 1 Coaching Certificate and educating herself in many aspects of equine anatomy, biomechanics and bodywork, whilst picking up some seasonal work clipping horses. Although there has been much success, there have also been many character-building moments such as the day at Dandenong Ranges Showjumping when Erica, Janis and Leanne were all in the same class and one after another fell off or chose to retire!
11 The Hosking Family, cont The girls enjoyed the social aspects of pony club and are pretty much happy to support any initiative, be it pony camp, junior committee, events, sausage sizzles etc. I have had my share of involvement, kicking off with Canteen, then Card Secretary, Secretary and DC. Erica has also served on Junior and General Committee and coaches regularly at rallies, whilst Janis is always keen to help out at rallies and fundraisers, and coached the games team to a place at the state championships last year. We have loved every single one of our horses and have a growing equine retirement village where we repay their years of service with daily care in a familiar environment until we must send them over the Rainbow Bridge. Pony Club has given us all a wonderful group of friends as well as opportunities for competition and achievement. The club has evolved over the years through much hard work on the part of an ever-growing number of families and it is less reliant on the efforts of just a few. It is an outstanding community and one of which we are very proud. We hope to continue to see our PC friends out and about. The Hosking Family.
