Scottsdale is going on as I type, with the Sunflower Arabian Horse Show just 2 months away. The Heartland Classic All Breed Show has been moved to the end of August due to a conflict with some of the barns and other shows. Before you know it, we will be into Regionals and Youth Nationals. We are trying a new meeting place this time. The Egg Crate Café is located in the same center as Wesley ER West. They have promised us a room separate from the rest of the dining room. Mom, Dad & I have eaten there a few times and the food is good. However, they stop serving at 2:00 PM, so we are starting at 11:00 AM. We can start the meeting, take a break for lunch, then resume the meeting. In case you didn t receive the from AHA, there is an Ad-Hoc committee working with the US National Show Commission to create a more exciting platform for the In-Hand classes. It is a work in progress, so stay tuned for updates from AHA. Take a few minutes to check the new KAHS website. It is finally up and working! There is still a lot of work to be done, but it will ultimately provide more information, including copies of the KAHS Newsletter and links to important and fun websites. While we complain about the cold weather and snow, I keep reminding my self, we could all be living in the Northeast. As I see what my friends are going (continued on page 2) Board of Directors & General Meeting February 28, 2015 Egg Crate Café (NE corner of 13th & Tyler in Wesley ER Center) 8606 W 13th St. N, #150 Wichita, KS Lunch & Meeting: 11:00 AM (We will have a separate room, but Egg Crate stops serving at 2:00) Please RSVP to Terry Craft by February 26 tcraft@sktc.net (620)
2 VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 PAGE 2 KANSAS ARABIAN HORSE SOCIETY Approved Minutes of the October 5, 2014 meeting Winning Ways Training Center, Wichita The meeting was called to order at 2:18 PM by President Jim Ford. Also present were Cindy Howey, Laura Meyer, Ann Ford, Harold Thieszen, Martha Wallisch, Terry Craft, Denise Meyer, Jeannine McLain, Yvonne Yearout, Kim Lord and Yvette Howey. No minutes from the previous meeting were available. The Treasurer s Report was reviewed. Martha is working on getting the Futurity money straightened out with Dena Kaminiski. She also reported that the check issued to the Children s Home still has not been cashed. She will contact Sarah. Cindy reported that we have 41 Senior members (one more was just received, bringing the total to 42) plus 1 Youth. The slate of officers was presented by Denise and Yvonne. They will be as follows: President Laura Meyer Vice President Terry Craft Secretary Yvette Howey Treasurer Martha Wallisch Board Members Cindy Howey Yvonne Yearout Jim Ford. Harold moved and Laura seconded to approve the slate of officers as presented. The motion was approved. The new officers will take office the first of January. Denise reported on the Sunflower show. Region 11 said no. Region 9 could not be convinced by Rusty and said no. Region 10 does not like one day shows and said no. Denise is hopeful that we can still get Region 6 to accept. Rusty said she will bring it up at Convention that Regions do not seem to want to cooperate with each other. Denise also reported on the Heartland show. She is trying to get open dates for She will get together with Terry to see what dates are available but will try for the second or third weekend in May of the last weekend in April. The next meeting will be November 15 at Genghis Grill at noon. Cindy reported that the Resolutions for Convention are online (29 Resolutions). One of the resolutions is asking that Youths be counted for Delegates to Convention. All members present felt this was a good idea. Jeannine moved the meeting adjourn. Denise seconded. The meeting adjourned at 3:18 PM. Respectfully submitted, Yvette Howey, Secretary (From the Editor continued from page 1) through with their horses, trying to stay warm up there, I am thankful that I don t have to deal with several feet of snow. The little bit (relatively) that we get isn t that bad. A few of our members are from the New York area (Jeannine & Cheryl), so I imagine that they are very happy to live in Kansas right now. I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming shows and meetings. Don t forget, if you have anything that you want to brag about (shows, babies, etc.), let me know. I will gladly put it in the Newsletter. 3 VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 PAGE 3 Ten Great Horse Records The Tallest Horse: Samson, born in 1846, stood /2 hands high and weighed 3,360 pounds! A hand is equal to four inches, so that's 7.2 feet high at the withers! Imagine trying to ride a horse THAT big! The Smallest Horse: His name was Little Pumpkin, and he was only 14 inches tall at the withers, and weighed just 20 pounds! He was born April 15, The Oldest Horse: Old Billy (fitting name!) lived to be 62 years old. That's ancient! He was born in 1760 and died in 1822, and lived in England. Oldest Pony: Sugarpuff, a pony that lived in England, lived to be 56 years old. He was a Shetland x Exmoor gelding and he was put down due to health problems. He was seal brown in color. The Highest Jump: Huaso could have easily jumped over the biggest horse in the world! He is the world record holder, jumping 2.47 meters, or 8 feet, 2 inches! He was a Thoroughbred born in Chile and was ridden by Captain Alberton Larraguibel Morales. You can read the whole story here! The Longest Jump: A horse named "Something" jumped an amazing 27 feet, 6.75 inches over water! ridden He was ridden by Andre Ferreira in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1975 The most expensive horse: The Green Monkey, a Thoroughbred racehorse, was purchased for $16 million... he was later retired from racing when he was raced 3 times and placed third once. The Most Races Ever Won: Kingston, a Thoroughbred, ran 138 races and won 89 of them. The Fastest Horses: Quarter Horses are said to be able to sprint at almost 50 miles per hour! Thoroughbreds race longer dis-tances, and often win races going miles per hour! The Greatest Load Ever Pulled A Shire horse named Vulcan pulled an incredible 29 tons, when he was measured in 1924 with a "dynamometer", an instrument used to measure power. Two Shire horses then pulled the max that regis-tered on the dynamometer-- over 50 tons!

In another bowl mix the dry ingredients. Slowly combine the molasses mixture with the dry ingredients. Add only enough molasses mixture to form a thick dough, add more bran if necessary. Awards are based on the number of hours you ride or drive an eligible horse. Currently, awards include Lapel Pins, AHA T-shirts, AHA Hats, AHA Soft-sided Cooler and more. There is no time limit to reach these goals. For more information, contact AHA or go to Don t forget to send you FRP Award Achievements to Cindy Howey to be included in the Newsletter Advantages of joining an AHA-Affiliated Club (like the Kansas Arabian Horse Society Club #8278) It has come to our attention that there are many people who are Direct-Members of AHA with no club affiliation.
