1 AUGUST 2018 NEWSLETTER CRACKER OF A DAY AT CAULFIELD With spring in the air we headed to Caulfield on Saturday with a number of runners across the day and we really couldn t have asked for a better result! The day got off to a ripping start in the first race with High Church who fought off his rivals over the 2400m trip to narrowly defeat Midterm and OTI stablemates, Tall Ship (3rd) and Master Zephyr (4th). We had two starters in race three which finished in an unprecedented result for the Darren Weir team. Bellaria, who was looking for her breakthrough win this preparation and Mrs Gardenia, who was kicking off her campaign over the 1400m trip, both lined up in the event. Mrs Gardenia settled down just behind the pace on the fence with Bellaria having to do it a little tougher in the three wide position. Entering the straight, both horses travelled strongly and they had to fight it out to the line. It was a photo finish and with the judge being unable to determine a margin both mares returned winners as our first stable dead heat! After a strong first up performance, Night s Watch finished one better at his second up assignment when he took out the Open 1400m Handicap. Under a great ride from Damian Lane, he relaxed in a nice position midfield with cover and got a cart into the straight where he peeled out four deep and sprouted wings down the outside to go on for an impressive win by over two lengths. Native Soldier also produced a strong performance at his first up run last start, and accordingly went one better in style! Jumping from barrier fifteen in the Group 3 Mcneil Stakes, the colt was fast to leave the gates and crossed the field to equal lead. After using his usual tactics to roll forward and lead, the five year old broke clear from the field as he straightened up, eventually holding off the fast finishing Widgee Turf by a narrow margin. Theanswermyfriend has been impressive since joining the Darren Weir Stable with this being his third victory in a row. He never made it to the racetrack for owner Robyn Shakespeare but is enjoying his new equestrian life with Rachel Eff!

PLEIN CIEL SOARS TO VICTORY After over twelve months off the racing scene it certainly didn t take Plein Ciel long to make his way back to the winner s stall.

Lining up in the $100,000 Open Handicap the six year old settled down in sixth position with cover.

He saluted by almost half a length over stablemate Yogi who sprouted wings down the outside in what was a fantastic effort from him at his first up assignment.

3 PLEIN CIEL SOARS TO VICTORY After over twelve months off the racing scene it certainly didn t take Plein Ciel long to make his way back to the winner s stall. Following a pleasing return to the track where he finished 3rd in the Mildura Cup in July, Plein Ciel stepped out to a mile and produced a dominant performance at Caulfield on the 18th of August. Lining up in the $100,000 Open Handicap the six year old settled down in sixth position with cover. He got a nice cart into the straight before peeling out to the middle and finishing off too strongly for his competition. He saluted by almost half a length over stablemate Yogi who sprouted wings down the outside in what was a fantastic effort from him at his first up assignment. Plein Ciel, who is a German import has certainly made his presence felt throughout his eight start career here in Australia. From those eight runs, he has proved victorious six times, and finished third at the other two outings. He is a very honest performer for Australian Bloodstock and his big bunch of excited owners. Here s hoping Plein Ciel s success can continue as the Spring approaches! OUR YANGTZE TAKES TO THE HURDLES As the 2018/19 season began our first winner came on the synthetic at Geelong on Friday the 3rd of August with Pollinator breaking her maiden over 2200m before Fiera Vista made it a winning double when she got her maiden win on the board by an impressive 3.25 lengths. Our other winner for the weekend came from Our Yangtze whose connections jumped for joy on a big Sunday of jumps racing at Sandown. Our Yangtze got his second career hurdle victory on the board with a great display of jumping in the $40,000 Clanbrooke Racing Hurdle. The six year old is showing a liking to the caper having tallied up two wins and two second placings from just four hurdle starts. Ridden beautifully by John Allen on Sunday, he relaxed nicely in the run and improved to take over in a line of four as they straightened up. He proved too strong as he kicked clear at the 250m mark, going on for a 1.75 length win over Zentangle.

SALUTE ON SATURDAY It was yet another busy day of racing on Saturday the 11th of August with runners lining up at four tracks across three different states.

Jumping from the inside barrier in the Benchmark 82 Handicap with Jamie Kah in the saddle, he settled down in the box seat position for the 1300m journey.

4 SALUTE ON SATURDAY It was yet another busy day of racing on Saturday the 11th of August with runners lining up at four tracks across three different states. Whilst It s A Silvertrail produced a winning performance at Newcastle New South Wales, over in South Australia it was Artie Dee Two who finally made his way back to the winner s stall. Jumping from the inside barrier in the Benchmark 82 Handicap with Jamie Kah in the saddle, he settled down in the box seat position for the 1300m journey. As he approached the 300m mark he peeled out four deep and went on to win by just over a length for Roll The Dice and his connections. Back home in Victoria, ATB s Penthouse Playboy put a string of second placings behind him when he got a much deserved maiden victory on the board, saluting for Shane Jackson in the Highweight over 2050m. The five year old has only been out of the top three at one of his six starts and with the confidence of a win under his belt we hope to see him go on with it now. To top off an already successful day, the team had a fantastic afternoon at Flemington with a further four runners returning home winners! The always honest Choisborder made it back to back victories and got the winning ways underway at Flemington when he took out the $60,000 Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1200m. This was followed by Yu Long Investments The Statesman producing a strong performance to narrowly hold off his rivals and get his first Australian victory on the board. Voodoo Lad has returned in great form following his short stint up in Queensland for the Brisbane Carnival. After a Group 3 win two starts ago, he finished second at Group 3 level behind Vega Magic last start and on Saturday returned to the winner s stall with another thrilling performance. Lining up in the Group 3 $150,000 Aurie s Star, he went back to the tail of the field before powering home towards the inside of the long Flemington straight, triumphing by three quarters of a length over Home Of The Brave and Brave Song. To cap off a winning quartet at headquarters and a total of seven winners for the day, Theanswermyfriend produced a dominating all the way victory to hold off all his rivals, narrowly prevailing over stablemate Night s Watch who was great in his first up assignment. It was Theanswermyfriend s breakthrough victory with the stable and he did it in very exciting fashion! Voodoo Lad claims victory in the Group 3 Aurie s Star.

Spring Carnival wrap up! It all started off Caulfield Guineas Day - way back on Saturday October 14th when the team saddled up a big bunch of horses to have two of them returning home feature winners.
