1 Waller weekly news 29 april 2016 Record-breaking dreams are still alive in the stable after reaching our fastest ever 200 wins for the season and this week we celebrated six winners with Murphy s Delight and Sir Bacchus leading the charge on Saturday. Lady Le Fay, Via Napoli and Rodrico followed this success up with thier wins on Anzac Day and Tsaritsa completed the sextet on Wednesday and looks an exciting filly for the future. It s that time of year when horses head off to stud and just a week after we said goodbye to Press Statement as he headed off to his new home in Vinery Stud in the Hunter, he s got a new neighbour across the valley in Kermadec. Stable bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster brokered a deal for owners Neville and Jenny Morgan which sees him purchased by Darley and set to stand for $22,000 this spring. In addition to looking forward to our stable runners, jumps fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming week with the Warrnambool Carnival. Of note for the stable is Thubiaan who s out to defend his Brierly title on the opening day on Tuesday while his former Waller stable-mate Zataglio is also in the race. 2 CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK murphy s delight 6yo G Hurricane Run - Akoya by Anabaa This CWR import returned to the winner s enclosure at Rosehill on Saturday when winning over 2400m under Hugh Bowman. Bowman settled him at the rear of the field before getting a dream run up the inside of the leaders in the straight and staying on strongly in the closing stages to score a hard fought victory. The son of Hurricane Run has been a consistent sort since joining the stable from Ireland and has a string of placings to go with his three Australian victories. sir bacchus 3yo G Sebring - Bachannal Woman by Encosta De Lago After winning twice last preparation, Sir Bacchus returned from a spell to score an impressive first up victory at Rosehill over 1200m. Jason Collett was aboard and he rode a patient race, settling the son of Sebring at the rear of the field early on before unleashing him with a devastating turn of foot in the straight to score easily from stablemate So Willie in second place. This was a third win from just six starts for Sir Bacchus and on this evidence he should be winning many more races in weeks to come. rodrico 3yo G High Chaparral - Truly A Beauty by Seeking the Gold Rodrico continued his rapid improvement with an impressive win here, making it two wins on end. The three-year-old, who has not finished further back than fourth in six starts, settled beautifully in sixth spot early in the nine-horse field and travelled comfortably until jockey Tye Angland made an earlier than expected move before the home turn. Hitting the front with 300m to go, Rodrico overhauled the leader to win by three quarters of a length and by the manner of the win should excel over more ground. 3 via napoli 3yo F Fastnet Rock - Celebria by Peintre Celebre Having finished second on her debut this well bred daughter of Fastnet Rock got off the mark at the second attempt when winning her maiden at Randwick on Monday over 1400m. Jason Collett took the mount and he had her travelling nicely in fourth place in the six horse field before making his challenge inside the final furlong to score comfortably. This was an impressive success for her owner/breeder John Camilleri of Fairway Thoroughbreds, who also bred Winx, and this filly should have plenty of improvement left to come. lady le fay 4yo M Thorn Park - Mia Le Fay by Zabeel Having performed exceptionally well to finish fourth in the Gr.1 Queen of the Turf at her previous start, this talented daughter of Thorn Park appreciated the drop in class when winning at Randwick on Monday over 2000m. Glyn Schofield was in the saddle and he settled her at the rear of the field early in the race before coming with a strong challenge in the straight and eventually fighting out the finish with stablemate Weary who returned to form to be narrowly beaten in second place. tsaritsa 3yo F Dane Shadow - Xaar s Jewel by Xaar This promising daughter of Dane Shadow scored an impressive first-up win at Canterbury on Wednesday over 1200m. Lester Grace took the mount making use of his valuable claim with Tsaritsa who had the top weight of 61.5kg. He settled her nicely in sixth place behind the leading group before improving nearing the home turn. She switched out nearing the 200m and then sprinted quickly to hit the front at the 100m, going to the post impressively to score an easy win. She looks a good filly who is set to progress to better things. THe charlie and sophie show! 4 Chris Waller s wait for 200th winner over in no time Sydney's champion trainer Chris Waller didn t have to wait long to get the winner he needed to bring up his double century for the season when the promising Via Napoli scored impressively in the Anzac Day meeting opener at Royal Randwick on Saturday. Via Napoli s success gave Waller his 200th winner on all racetracks this season the fourth consecutive year he has passed that milestone. Waller then had further reason to celebrate as his stable ended the day with a treble after the wins of Rodrico and Lady Le Fay. Via Napoli is a superbly bred filly raced by leading owner-breeder John Camilleri and responded when challenged by Mon Bel Ami to score a strong win in the Anzac Day Handicap (1400m). She is still learning what it is all about but it was good to see her knuckle down like that, Waller said. Lady Le Fay edged out stablemate Weary in a thrilling finish to the tommy Hill Memorial Handicap (2000m). This win took Waller s tally of Sydney wins to 125 and with three months of the season remaining he is a realistic chance of challenging the all-time record of city wins he established in Ray Thomas, The Daily Telegraph KERMADEC TO STAND AT DARLEY KELVINSIDE Kermadec, the winner of two of Randwick s most coveted mile contests, has been retired from racing and will join the Darley roster at Kelvinside in the Hunter Valley for the 2016 breeding season. A stunningly handsome horse, Kermadec, who is from the first Australian-bred crop of his unbeaten sire Teofilo, sold for NZ$260,000 as a yearling. Kermadec claimed the G1 Doncaster Handicap at three, defeating previous G1 winners Real Impact and Royal Descent. He then went on to add a second victory at the highest level in the G1 George Main Stakes the following season with no fewer than five G1 winners behind him that day. Alastair Pulford, Head of Sales for Darley in Australia said, We are thrilled to have purchased Teofilo s best son Kermadec to stand alongside his father at Kelvinside this season. Teofilo has quickly become a global star for us and we are very excited to have him returning to Australia this season as are many of our clients. Kermadec was a horse of exceptional quality who was able to win a G3 on Derby day at Flemington on just his third start. He went on to win two of the best G1 mile races in Australia with only the superstar Winx denying him a third win at the elite level in George Ryder last month. Kermadec retires the winner of $2.9 million in prizemoney. He will stand at a fee of $22,000 inc. GST. - Darley Purchased by stable bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster at the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale for Neville and Jenny Morgan, it was also fitting that Guy brokered the deal for him to be sold to Darley.

5 WAR STORY ONE TO WATCH IN UK Geoff Grimish s War Story is currently trained in England by Luca Cumani and is destined for the Waller stable after his 3yo year. He won impressively first up this week and both his trainer and jockey were very positive about the performance and the improvement he d made since his first preparation when he had one run to finish second behind Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs half-brother Manson. War Story was purchased by stable bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster for Geoff from the Arqana Breeze Up Sale. Geoff also owns War Story s half brother Weary who s won the Gr.2 Expressway and was runner up in the Gr.1 Doomben Cup and 3rd in the Gr.1 Doncaster among other good stakes performaces. The next step with War Story is to test him on the turf so he should next appear in a 1600m race in a few weeks time. Should he win the race, he may then run in the Britannia at Royal Ascot according to Luca Cumani. An ownership opportunity has become available in a recent import from New Zealand that the stable is very excited about. Beatnik (NZ), now Our Beatnik was identified by stable bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster as an exciting prospect for the team going forward. The lightly tried 4yo has only raced on four occasions however won his last start having been placed the start before. His win at Avondale was full of merit with the son of Elusive City relishing the step up to 1400m from 1200m, racing off the pace and making a solid late run to win on what is a normally leader-biased track. 6 getting to know hannah grant Rosehill-based trackwork rider Hannah Grant took some time out to tell us a bit about herself and answer this week s staff questions I m from Essex in England and I m a real Daddy s girl. I got into racing when I was 16 and got my apprentice license in England however I haven t ridden in any races just yet. I love Australia and am planning on staying out here even though I miss home - it sure is an experience of a lifetime! Nickname? Hannah Montana or Spanner. Best quote? Life s what you make it. Favourite part of the job? Riding and leading up winners. Favourite horse? Who Shot Thebarman. Best horse ever seen? Winx. Role Model? My Daddy. Favourite food? Strawberries and chocolate. Favourite jockey? Frankie Dettori. If you weren t in racing, what would you have done? I would have had something to do with animals - am not to sure what that would be though. If you could invite two people for dinner, who would you invite? Toni and Tash my workmates. Event in the world that you would most like to attend? It was the Golden Slipper but I ve done that now.
