1 Waller weekly news 22 january 2016 The ebb and flow of the racing game saw the stable celebrate just one winner in the past week after what continues a slightly frustrating run for the stable with a hefty spate of seconds. All hail the ever progressive Loophole however who did break through as he continues to pursue his dream of emerging from the shadow of his dual Group One winning three-quarter brother Preferment. The horses continue to run well however and with seasons of experience under the stable s belt, we know the inevitable tides will turn soon as the horses continue to work well at home and at the races. This week Canterbury night racing keep the team on their toes while we also look forward to runners stepping out at Randwick, Moonee Valley, Newcastle, Sale, Wyong, Werribee and Caulfield in the next four days. With New Zealand Bloodstock s Premier Sale set to kick off on Monday, bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster has now inspected all of the Premier Sale horses and a good amount of horses from the Select session commenting There are lots of nice horses so hopefully we can pick a Preferment or Kermadec or two up. We are again buying for the New Zealand syndicate as well as specking a nice colt and filly. Please contact the office you have interest or if you have any special requests or queries about particular horses, contact Guy on We wish you all safe racing and the very best of luck over the next week! 2 CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK loophole 6yo G Lonhro - Better Alternative by Flying Spur Preferment s older brother has been in flying form this preparation and made it back to back wins when victorious at Randwick on Saturday over 2000M. Glyn Schofield took the mount and he settled the son of the Ingham Family s champion galloper Lonhro towards the rear of the field early on before producing him inside the final furlong to score from stablemate Dance of Heroes who battled on gallantly having been close to the pace throughout. Loophole s next stop is likely to be a 2000m at Randwick in two weeks before a start in the Listed Parramatta Cup over 1900m on the 20th of February. VIDEO UPDATE Make the boys day and click on the image to the left to go to this week s video update with plenty of valuable insights into our runners this weekend! A Family Affair The Racing.com team take a look at what helped make Zoustar such a powerful force on the racetrack. 3 You'll Never ready for Carrington return Chris Waller admits he is working to a restricted timetable with You'll Never, one of the favourites to win the Carrington Stakes at Randwick. You'll Never is a long way from the best horse in Waller's yard and that's why the leading trainer is approaching Saturday's Listed race with an unusual degree of urgency for a stable that has built its success on patient and methodical systems. "He needs to get on his bike before the carnival horses get back so it's a good time of the year for him," Waller said. Without winning a race of significance, You'll Never has managed to bank almost $500,000 in prize money from seven victories and 16 placings across 39 starts. As Waller prepares for the return to racing of megastars such as Winx, Press Statement and stable newcomer, last year's English Derby placegetter Storm The Stars, he says there is always room in his yard for horses like You'll Never. "They are important, those type of horses," he said. "It's just not all about Group races." You'll Never returns after a 25-week absence but Waller says he has seen enough merit in a recent Rosehill barrier trial to rate the horse a legitimate Carrington threat. "He races well first-up and he looks fit," Waller said. "He normally races a bit heavier but actually on the scales he's not big and heavy so hopefully that's a positive." Bookmakers also sense You'll Never can improve a first-up record that includes one win and three placings in four attempts, marking the six-year-old as second favourite. Waller said You'll Never could have his training eased sooner rather than later before returning at the end of the autumn carnival. "I will give him a couple of runs and see where he's going," he said. Carrington favouritism belongs to the Godolphin galloper Medcaut, a winner over 1400m and 1600m at his past two Randwick starts. In a field of seven, Medcaut holds the call at $2.90 from You'll Never at $4.20. Late entry Voilier is on the third line as a $5 chance and Kathy O'Hara will ride the three-year-old for the first time. Runner-up in the Silver Slipper Stakes, The Rosebud and the Up And Coming Stakes during his 2015 campaign, Voilier raced like a horse looking for more ground when placed over 1100m at Canterbury. - AAP TURF

5 getting to know John Pilkington Rosehill based trackwork rider and strapper Jack was raised in the middle of Ireland with his three brothers. He was put on ponies straight away so literally rode before he could walk! Fortunate to get a strong grounding from hunting and riding racehorses from 11, he was keen in all sports competing in hurling, rugby, cricket and tennis and triathlon too. Jack went to the Racing Academy in Ireland at age 15 to do the Trainee Jockey Course for the year before taking out his amateur license and riding in Point-to-Points and Bumpers. Jack moved to England at 17 where he gained vast experience in five year, competing in a couple of Amateur Flat and Pointing rides to keep the jockey hunger happy but ultimately he grew into his big feet! He most recently completed two years as Pupil Assistant to Charlie Hills, before coming to work for Chris Waller Racing as the first stop on his world travels. Jack aspires to return to the UK to train for some time before developing his home in Ireland into a training facility and resuming there. Nickname? Pilko. Best quote? Any line from Ferris Buellers Day Off! The Hey Batter Batter Swing moment probably tops it. Favourite part of the job? Riding so many talented horses each day. Favourite horse? Delacroix Best horse ever seen? Sea The Stars OR Muhaarar. Role model? Michael Talbot-Ponsonby (Grandfather). Favourite food? Leftovers. Favourite jockey? Ruby Walsh and Ryan Moore are unstoppable and flawless forces in their respective spheres. If you weren t in racing, what would you have done? I d probably have been a journalist but even then would have struggle not to elude or refer to the racing game all too often! If you could invite two people for dinner, who would you invite? Jimi Hendrix and Billie Holiday Event in the world that you would most like to attend? The Olympics.. What would you do with your last $5? Give it to my brother Paddy and tell him to make it grow - he s the jammiest person I know, I m sure it would go much further with him! Tip for the weekend? Foxplay.
