Waller weekly news 28 april 2017 French Emotion. This week we celebrated a mammoth 12 wins spread between our Sydney and Melbourne bases with the ultra-deserving mare French Emotion a worthy highlight. The consistent daughter of Snitzel s win in the $150,000 Vobis Gold Distaff takes her earnings past the $500,000 mark for her owners and breeders Valda Klaric and Ivan Cajkusic. Ingham Racing s homebred fillies were also to the fore with Oklahoma Girl and High Low Bet both very promising sorts. Star Thoroughbreds also celebrated two winners in the form of smart fillies Noire and Vanzetta. In the NSW premiership the stable is stitting on 119 metro wins with another 210 placings for owners and just under $14 million in prize money. Across the country we passed the $20 million prizem oney mark this week with 193 wins thus far. This weekend we look forward to a big team representing the stable at Hawkesbury s popular Saturday meeting tomorrow while Hursley and the imports Xebec and Loving Home are set to race at Caulfield and we have a handful of runners at Newcastle. We wish all of our connections the best of luck and a safe weekend! INSIDE THIS ISSUE WINNERs News & photos admin@cwallerracing.com

CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK french emotion 5yo M Snitzel - Love And Emotion by Woodman This talented and consistent daughter of the great sire in Snitzel earned her connections another decent payday when taking out the Vobis Gold Distaff race over 1400m at Caulfield on Saturday. Ben Melham was in the saddle and he produced a superb ride to settle her just worse than midfield early before they mounted their challenge inside the final furlong to hit the front close to the line for a brilliant victory. This win took her career earnings over the $500,000 mark and she will be a very valuable broodmare for connections in time. egg tart 3yo F Sebring - Mrs Windsor by King s Best This talented daughter of Sebring has been a revelation this preparation and continued her fine form when travelling to Melbourne and making it three wins in a row when scoring at Flemington on Saturday under Damien Oliver. Oliver settled her at the tail of the field early on before producing her in the straight for an effortless win. This was a dominant victory and on this evidence she should be up to earning some valuable black type for connections in the future. richard of yorke 5yo G Oasis Dream - Cascata by Montjeu This imported galloper has been performing consistently well in Melbourne of late and continued his good form when returning to Sydney to win at Randwick on Saturday over 2400m. Kerrin McEvoy took the mount and he always had him in a good position just behind the leaders in the small field. Once McEvoy asked for an effort in the home straight the son of Oasis Dream stayed on strongly in the Heavy track conditions for a solid victory. Thanks to Bradley Photographers and darryl sherer for our weekly photos.

oklahoma girl 3yo F Fastnet Rock - Shawnee Girl by Encosta de Lago This Ingham family homebred daughter of the great Fastnet Rock made it back to back city wins when winning at Randwick on Saturday over 1600m. Tommy Berry was in the saddle and he rode a patient race settling her towards the rear of the field early before coming with a well timed run to hit the front close to home for an impressive success. In doing so she has booked her ticket for a possible tilt at the Queensland Oaks. yeah bravo 3yo G Al Maher - Bravo Zulu by Military Plume This son of Al Maher built on the promise of a couple of his earlier placed starts when winning his maiden at Randwick on Anzac Day over 1400m in the hands of Tommy Berry. Berry took luck out of the equation as Yeah Bravo flew the barriers and rolled along in front from the outset. He kept going strongly in the lead for an easy victory for owner Mr Choy. high low bet 2yo F High Chaparral - We Betcha by Encosta de Lago The late High Chaparral has shown in recent weeks what a loss he has been to the industry and his daughter High Low Bet made a brilliant start to her career when winning on debut at Randwick on Anzac Day over 1200m. Brenton Avdulla was aboard and he gave the Ingham family homebred plenty of time to find her feet back in the field before she unleashed a brilliant late burst to get up close to home for a brilliant win. prescience 5yo G Kyllachy - Clear Vision by Observatory This imported galloper who joined the stable from the UK as a maiden scored his second career victory at Sandown on Wednesday when scoring over 2100m. Craig Newitt was on board and he always had the gelded son of Kyllachy in a good position not far off the speed. Once they turned into the straight Prescience came with a powerful run in the Heavy track conditions to score an impressive victory.

noire 3yo F Foxwedge - Valadon by Woodman This Star Thoroughbreds daughter of Foxwedge had shown plenty of promise having been placed second on both her initial starts and she made it third time lucky at Canterbury on Wednesday over 1100m. Kerrin McEvoy took the mount and he settled her towards the rear early before producing her in the straight with a strong run down the outside to score an impressive victory. cocoexcel 3yo F Exceed And Excel - Perfect Hostess by Dehere This talented filly returned to the winners enclosure at Kembla Grange on Saturday over 1300m under Chad Lever. Lever enjoyed a profitable day and he produced a gun ride on this daughter of Exceed and Excel. He settled her in midfield early on before coming with a sustained run in the straight to hit the line close to home for a gutsy victory. champagne ready 4yo M More Than Ready - Champagne Harmony by Choisir Champagne Ready returned to the winner s circle at Kembla Grange on Saturday over 1500m. Chad Lever was on board and he always had her travelling strongly in the small five-horse field. Lever rode her with plenty of confidence and he brought her with a strong challenge in the straight and once he gave her the office inside the final furlong she quickened away smartly for an easy win. tumultuous 3yo G Fastnet Rock - Boisterous Lady by Rivotious This gelded son of Fastnet Rock has performed with credit in good company since winning his maiden last year and he appreciated the drop in class at Kembla Grange on Saturday under Rory Hutchings who had also been on board for his previous win. Hutchings brought him with a strong run in the straight to overhaul stable-mate Lead Choreographer close to home after that rival had tried to lead throughout.

VANZETTA 3yo F Hinchinbrook - Equivalence by Encosta de Lago This daughter of Hinchinbrook gained her maiden victory at Wyong on Thursday over 1600m. Tommy Berry was on board in the Star Thoroughbreds colours and he elected to settle the filly at the tail of the field early on. As they approached the turn Berry made a quick move on Vanzetta to challenge the leaders and she hit the front early in the straight before staying on strongly for a promising success. video preview Make Charlie and Chris s day and click on the image to the left to go to this week s video update with plenty of valuable insights into our runners this weekend!

Waller s French Emotion is rewarded for her honesty While Chris Waller s remarkable race mare Winx has been the darling of the rich autumn carnival, another of his mares with a lesser profile has been just as honest down in Melbourne without managing to break through. However, her genuineness was rewarded when the brave French Emotion finally broke through for a well-earned success at Caulfield on Saturday after a torrid run of luck of late. Despite coming back in distance, the Sydney-trained mare squeezed through a late opening in the straight to grab the lead and win and collect a handsome stake money cheque for her trouble. French Emotion s quality should never be doubted as she is a group 1 placegetter which put her head and shoulders above her rivals on Saturday. I think in Sydney she was unlucky running into bottomless tracks which didn t suit as she s not a very big filly, Waller s Melbourne representative Johanne Taylor said. Coming to Melbourne and getting some good tracks, it shows she is effective. Taylor admitted to nerves at the top of the straight seeing the mare buried on the fence but was quick to praise Ben Melham for his ride. Taylor is unsure of what plans Waller has in mind for the five-year-old. Chris will have a look at the program, Taylor said. Whether it s Adelaide or the Gold Coast, I m sure he ll place her where it will best suit to get a bit more black type. - Sydney Morning Herald. Foxplay clone gets off the mark Chris Waller believes he could have a replica of Foxplay on his hands after fellow three-year-old filly Noire broke her duck with an impressive win at Canterbury. The champion trainer said Noire displayed the same characteristics as Foxplay, a Group One winner at her last start in the Queen of the Turf Stakes at Randwick on April 8. Foxplay was an unassuming filly who just got better and better and this one is in pretty much the same mould, Waller said. They re not overly big horses but they keep improving every time you ask them to. They re not picture perfect, but they ve got big hearts. Noire ($3.50) finished strongly to claim the Vinery Plate (1100m) maiden on Wednesday. Noire, second in her two previous starts at Newcastle and Canterbury, swept to the lead with 50m remaining under Kerrin McEvoy and scored by three-quarters of a length from Dream I Can ($21). Foxplay and Noire share the same sire, Foxwedge, and Waller hopes the first-time winner can reach the same level. I think she ll improve once she gets over a bit further. It was a bit of a risk running her over 1100 metres but the good solid tempo up front helped, he said. - AAP

Another $20m Waller season Sydney s premier trainer Chris Waller smashed through the $20 million prize money barrier for the season when Richard Of Yorke scored a grinding win at Royal Randwick. Richard Of Yorke earned $54,000 for his efforts in the Schweppes Randwick Royale Handicap (2400m) to vault Waller s stable earnings over the milestone for the fourth successive year. Waller was first trainer to break the $20 million mark in and the trainer taken his stable winnings progressively higher each season since before setting a new all-time record of $30,470,410 in on the back of his extraordinary haul of 15 Group 1 wins. The champion trainer will fall short of his prizemoney record this season as he has trained seven Group 1 winners so far six of those majors coming from the mighty Winx including her runaway wins in the $3 million Cox Plate and $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes to provide a significant boost to the trainer s stable earnings. Richard Of Yorke isn t regarded as one of Waller s elite gallopers but he is an improving stayer and typical of the horse that helped establish the trainer in Sydney a tried European horse purchased to take advantage of the relatively thin local staying ranks. About a decade ago Waller cut his teeth securing overseas stayers for modest sums and dominating Sydney distance events. Richard Of Yorke has many of Waller s long-time stable clients in his ownership including Frank Cook and Neil Werrett and the stayer is paying his way with two wins from his last three starts. Bookies took no risks with Richard Of Yorke, sending him out the $2.25 favourite and it looked a fairly routine win as he raced clear to win by two lengths from Last Wish ($21) with Paragon ($7.50) a nose away third. But winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy said Richard Of Yorke s win was tougher than it looked. He takes a lot of riding, McEvoy said. I m not sure who is blowing harder after the race I think it is me more than the horse. I was a little worried about the 600m when he was under a bit of pressure but he is a strong stayer and keeps grinding away. Waller said Richard Of Yorke seems the ideal type for the autumn-winter long distance races in Sydney. I will probably aim him towards a race like the Stayers Cup over 3200m later in the season (Randwick, June 10), Waller said. - Ray Thomas, The Daily Telegraph.

Guy Mulcaster's spec buy now ready to tangle in big mile races Bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster liked what he saw when a Snitzel colt out of Bramble Rose walked into Inglis parade ring at Newmarket last year. He might not have had any owners in mind, but he had certain races in his sights. Within a couple of minutes he had secured the colt for $310,000 and within a couple of days some of the big names in the breeding game had an interest in what was to become Tangled. When you look at it now, he was a good buy because we would have paid double that at least for a colt like him this year, Mulcaster said. I liked that he was out of an Oaks winner in Bramble Rose from a good speed stallion and he was just a good-looking colt. I thought he would be more of a miler and I thought he was good buying. I actually bought him on spec but we had him done pretty quickly and when you have Henry Field and a few others in him it shows what a good yearling he was. Tangled took three runs to find the winner s circle for trainer Chris Waller but was impressive sitting wide and winning at Wyong last start. He will use Saturday s Clarendon Stakes at Hawkesbury as a stepping stone to target the Brisbane winter carnival. We have had an opinion of him but just gave him time to find his feet after that run in December, Waller said. The win at Wyong was just tough and determined but didn t really surprise us. He has just been getting better with every run and I think this is a testing point over 1300 metres as to whether we ll go to Brisbane. He just has to show us he is up to it on Saturday. Waller would be targeting the JJ Atkins on the Queen s Birthday long weekend over 1600m, which would fulfil what Mulcaster saw in the colt at the sales. It is the only two-year-old group 1 Waller has won, with Pressday in 2010 and then Press Statement in 2015, but this a different sort of two-year-old. You have to have the right sort of horse to get to this race and he is a bit different to the other two in that he is a smaller, stronger type of horse, Waller said. Press Statement had more length to him. We are not going to push him to get there, because there are more races for him as a three-year-old, but he gives us the feel that the further the better. Waller is a big player throughout the afternoon at Hawkesbury, but suggested his imported stayers in the opening race, Mortar Platoon and Great Glen, could be ones to watch. They are getting out to a trip that they will like and they want a firmer track, so they will both run good races, Waller said. It is a race we have had a bit of success in with these sort of horses in the past. - Chris Roots.
