Spinks became indisposed following his riding engagements at the Gold Coast meeting today, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: HIT FM CLASS 3 H CAP 1050M HABSBURG Tightened for room at the start. LOVE SPY Following the event, Trainer B. Currie was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of the filly. He advised that the filly had improved in fitness from its first up run and was working well in preparation for tonight s event. In the light of the performance, Trainer Currie indicated that he will have his stable veterinarian examine the horse in the coming days. RED HOT SECRET Apprentice R. Ride was reprimanded for using the whip on more than

2 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In issuing a reprimand, Stewards were mindful of the totality of whip use during the event. RUBY TWO SHOES Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 800m. BIG BRITCHES Steadied when placed in restricted room shortly after the start. Race 2: FURNEYS STOCKFEEDS CLASS 5 H CAP 1300M JUST AS LOYAL Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide from the 700m. Apprentice S. Sweeney was fined $200 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. STELLAR KNIGHT On returning to scale, Jockey J. Oliver could offer no tangible explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding, which weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have excess mucus in the upper airways consistent with the onset of a virus which may have affected the horse s performance. Trainer B. Currie advised Stewards that, in the light of the veterinary report, he will now review the horse s current preparation. TRUMP IT Laid in in the home straight. RA RA EPIC Bumped by another runner near the 150m. Apprentice N. Keal was fined $300 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. CANNY EXCEL Held up for clear running over the concluding stages. CHELSEA STAR Apprentice M. Schrapel accidentally dropped his whip at the 150m. Race 3: GAINSBOROUGH LODGE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 H CAP 1200M ROCKY NUGGET Stewards questioned Apprentice G. Mitchell in relation to the tactics adopted on ROCKY NUGGET in the early and middle stages in that the gelding raced some distance behind the main body of the field. Apprentice Mitchell advised that Trainer G. Cornish had instructed her to ride the horse with cover tonight with a view to getting the gelding to settle in its races. Apprentice Mitchell added that after beginning well she restrained her mount in an effort to comply with these instructions, which resulted in the horse racing at the tail of the field. Trainer G. Cornish confirmed that he wished for the horse to be ridden with cover, however he expected the gelding to be racing behind the leaders rather than at the tail of the field. After viewing the patrol footage with her, Stewards advised Apprentice Mitchell that she erred in the early stages for not placing the horse under more pressure to obtain a position either following EXCITEMENT LEVELS, or to the outside of that runner trailing AMERICAN FRONTIER. However, bearing in mind Apprentice Mitchell s relative inexperience as an apprentice rider at provincial meetings, Stewards elected to take the matter no further. AMERICAN FRONTIER Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. CAESAR S SECRET Overraced in the early and middle stages. Bled both nostrils. A

3 representative of Trainer M. Costa was advised that the horse would be stood down from racing for a period of 3 months and must pass a 1000m gallop before Stewards prior to racing again. I AM THE WARRIOR Jockey N. Nishio was reprimanded for raising his arm above shoulder height whilst using the whip. Race 4: TOOWOOMBA PORTABLE TOILETS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H CAP 1300M MILITARY PRINCE Raced wide without cover throughout. THE FAB THREE Slow to begin. WESTBROOK WARRIOR Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide from leaving the 800m and raced wide for the remainder of the event. STAR OF COLUMBIA Began awkwardly. HENRY S AFFAIR Hung out rounding the home turn. DAY OF THE FOX Laid in in the home straight. Race 5: CARLTON MID MAIDEN H CAP 1300M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to review the patrol footage in relation to STRATTON OAKMONT (S. Sweeney) and ROSE KIYOMI (N. Thomas) starting from incorrect barriers. After reviewing the footage, Stewards were of the opinion that neither horse was disadvantaged as a result of the incorrect barrier placement, and correct weight was declared on the judge s semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry, Stewards took submissions from Apprentice S. Sweeney, jockey N. Thomas and the Starter, Mr P. Brennan, regarding the incident. After considering all available evidence, Stewards issued reprimands to both S. Sweeney and N. Thomas under the provisions of AR. 128(1). DANISH DRAMA Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run and forced to shift to the outside of the heels of another runner to secure clear running approaching the 100m. ROSE KIYOMI Held up for clear running and unable to improve for some distance approaching the 100m. AWESOME MORE Jockey Beau Appo was reprimanded for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Appo s previous good record in relation to this rule. MISS ARKWRIGHT Laid in in the home straight. MISS MARSEILLE As jockey J. Hoopert was unable to fulfil his engagement in this race due to transportation difficulties, jockey W. D Avila was substituted as rider. Prior to the race, jockey W. D Avila advised Stewards that it would be the intention for the horse to be ridden forward today if circumstances permit. Jockey W. D Avila subsequently reported that, after settling in a forward position, the horse hung out and raced wide throughout the

4 event. WILY MISS Slow to begin. Jockey N. Nishio was advised by Stewards that, in their opinion, the style in which he rode WILY MISS from the 400m was unacceptable. Jockey Nishio was advised to desist from riding out horses in this manner, or Stewards would be forced to reconsider his suitability to ride at provincial meetings. LIGHT OF DE WORLD Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 6: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BENCHMARK 65 H CAP 1850M RHIATENN ROAD Threw its head on jumping away striking jockey B. Appo in the face, resulting in the horse shifting out abruptly and losing ground. DOG DAYS ARE OVER After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey J. Oliver allowed his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1200m. MOSS GO NOW On returning to scale, Apprentice R. Ride reported that her mount hung out throughout the event. Race 7: MEIL MANSELL CONCRETE FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 H CAP 1200M FAST VISION Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m. SOPHIE S DESTINY Apprentice N. Keal was fined $300 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Stewards also advised Apprentice Keal that given his poor recent record in relation to this rule, he will be required to attend a tuition session with the Racing Queensland apprentice training coaches. ALL APPLES Forced to race in restricted room to the inside of SOPHIE S DESTINY (N. Keal) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice N. Keal was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
