1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Clarence River Jockey Club GRAFTON RACECOURSE Saturday 1 September 2018 Weather: Fine Track: Soft (5), Good (4) retrospective of Race 6 Rail: +3m 850m 400m, true remainder STEWARDS: M A Holloway (Chairman), N M Daniels & J Penfold SUPPLEMENTARY STEWARDS REPORTS Clarence River Jockey Club, GRAFTON RACECOURSE, Wednesday 11 July 2018 RACE 5: Class 2 Handicap 1600m It s Relative Near the 150m clipped the heels of Dark Image, fell and dislodged its rider B. Looker. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have sustained a fracture to its near side humerus. It s Relative was subsequently humanely euthanised. Evidence was taken from B. Looker and trainer Mr S. Osland. Mr Osland provided the treatment and veterinary records for the gelding. The Stewards were satisfied that It s Relative had no pre-existing injury/condition that may have led or contributed to the injury suffered and found the most probable cause of the injury was the manner in which the gelding fell after clipping heels. Clarence River Jockey Club, GRAFTON RACECOURSE, Wednesday 11 July 2018 RACE 5: Maiden Handicap 1700m Stickemup (NZ) Near the 200m blundered and commenced to shorten stride dramatically. Approaching the 100m fell and dislodged its rider J. Oliver. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have fractured its near fore humerus. Stickemup (NZ) was humanely euthansed. Evidence was taken from J. Oliver and trainer Mr D. Smith. Mr Smith provided the treatment and veterinary records for the gelding. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no pre-existing injury/condition that may have led or contributed to the injury to Stickemup (NZ) the inquiry was concluded. General: As D. Peisley was indisposed stewards permitted the following ride changes Race Rider (Horse) 3 C. Small (Sideshow Al) 5 C. Small (Violet Jane) 6 C. Small (Mary Read) Trainer Mr S. Lee was fined $200 for failing to declare the following riders by the prescribed time

Near the 700m was steadied when tightened for room by Just a Dame which laid in at that point. Jazzy Ruler Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Just a Dame Laid in near the 700m. Sapper Tom Began awkwardly. Schopenhauer (NZ) Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Supreme Willy Slow to begin and eased when tightened between runners shortly after. RACE 2: Class 1 Handicap 1006m Aslan s Mojo Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was steadied when tightened for room. Raced very wide in the early and middle stages. Kalahari Pearl Slow to begin. Laura s Star Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare jockey Ms B. Hodder stated that her mount settled in a handy position and travelled fairly. Ms Hodder stated that when asked to sprint at the entrance to the straight her mount failed to respond strongly and just ground its way to the line. Ms Hodder stated that her mount raced like a tired horse. When questioned, trainer Ms J. Hodder stated that the mare is now well into its preparation and she believes it is looking for a step up in distance. A post race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Lord Mal Passing the 800m was checked after improving into insufficient racing room. Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Rock the House Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Star of Pompeii Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. RACE 3: Maiden Handicap 1006m Friends of Wren Laid in down the straight and proved difficult to ride with full vigour. Trainer Mr T. McCarthy will be interviewed regarding the racing manners of the filly at a date to be fixed. A post race veterinary examination of the filly revealed it to be showing mild symptoms of tying up. Gold Digger Began awkwardly.

3 3 Magic Alliance Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. On the Tweed As M. Bennett was overweight stewards permitted P. Graham to replace him as the rider of the gelding. M. Bennett was fined $100 (AR120(b)). Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Inclined to hang in down the straight and proved difficult to ride with full vigour. The racing manners of the gelding were brought to the attention of its trainer Mrs C. Halliday. Runamuk Not fully tested over the final 100m when racing in restricted room and steadied over the concluding stages when racing in restricted room. Spurred On Passing the 700m refused to settle when being restrained by its rider, and charged up onto heels, resulting in its rider having to shift the gelding out abruptly. Hung in from this point to the 600m and lost ground. Trainer Ms F. Firth was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Wine Time Anytime Eased after improving onto heels approaching the home turn. RACE 4: Maiden Handicap 1006m Double Essie Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Hashtag Hero Raced very wide in the early and middle stages. Northern Territory A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr B. Robinson was advised that the gelding will now incur the embargoes listed under AR53A. Ornate Eased when buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Pig n Whistle Slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages. Rahpolette Began awkwardly. Overraced rounding the first turn. Passing the 600m was eased when racing in restricted room and shortly after was checked after shifting out abruptly across heels. The racing manners of the mare were brought to the attention of its trainer Ms A. Graham. Sammi s Sharp A post race veterinary examination of the mare, which was beaten 16.88L, revealed it to have a slow recovery rate. Trainer Mr D. Chujo was advised that a warning would be placed on the competitiveness of the mare. Showy Me Steadied after improving onto heels passing the 500m. A post race veterinary examination of the colt did not reveal any abnormality. Tis Toby Inclined to lay out in the middle stages. Toogoolawah Trump Blundered on jumping.

4 4 True Pride Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 200m was obliged to ease out around heels to continue to improve. RACE 5: Maiden Plate 1406m Airdale Inclined to lay in, in the early part of the straight. Bumped and unbalanced on two occasions near the 200m. Hung in over the final 200m and proved difficult to ride with full vigour. Trainer Mr S. Henley was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. Apprentice Ms O. Pickering reported that after being bumped near the 200m the saddle on her mount shifted slightly. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have mild pain in the front feet. Arcadian Shores Slow to begin. Ran wide rounding the first turn. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Ballybrack Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn became held up on heels and was unable to be fully tested until approaching the 200m. Bumped passing the 50m. Just Radish Bumped and unbalanced at the entrance to the straight. Le Charioteer Bumped and unbalanced at the entrance to the straight. Lose the Snip Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Buffeted between runners at the entrance to the straight. Mary s Girl Commenced to pull passing the 1200m and continued to the 900m were it was checked and lost ground after pulling its way up onto heels when the pace of the event slackened. Near the 800m was steadied after improving onto heels. Rounding the home turn became held up on heels and was unable to be fully tested until approaching the 200m. Approaching the 50m shifted in abruptly and bumped another runner in an effort to obtain clear running. Failed to obtain clear running and was not tested for the remainder of the event. Styk At It Shifted out under pressure approaching the 100m. Swoop Slow to begin. Near the 200m was steadied after improving onto heels and obliged to shift in to continue to improve. Ultimate Eagle (NZ) - Bumped and unbalanced on two occasions near the 200m. RACE 6: Maiden Plate 1706m Caro Cavallo Ran wide rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it had bled from the near side nostril. Trainer Mr J. Shelton was advised that the gelding is required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start. King of Monaco Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Steadied after improving onto heels near the 1100m. Myriads Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

5 5 Nev s Arden Raced wide in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which was beaten 29.9L, did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Ms J. Mccusker was advised that the filly is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Ms Mccusker reported in the days subsequent that the filly was showing symptoms of being shin sore in the off fore leg and would be spelled. Onset Slow to begin. Eased after improving onto heels near the 1100m. Pull Me Up When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding apprentice Ms C. Graham stated that her mounts action was poor throughout the early and middle stages and when she asked it to improve approaching the home turn, its action deteriorated to the point she was not comfortable placing it under pressure down the straight. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was throwing its off fore leg significantly during the event, revealed it to be lame in the near fore leg (2/5). Trainer Mr B. Ratcliff advised that the gelding has always been inclined to throw its off fore leg, however never to the extent that it did today, and it would be retired immediately. Mr Ratcliff was advised that should the gelding become a racing proposition in the future, it is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards and before such trial requires a veterinary certificate of fitness. Further, the geldings galloping action will be monitored by stewards in future starts. Taikun Prince Near the 600m was eased after improving into restricted room. Tough One Steadied after improving onto heels approaching the 1000m. RACE 7: Class 2 Handicap 1706m Arlington Heights Approaching the 800m was steadied when momentarily tightened for room. Carrs Creek Kid Eased after improving onto heels approaching the 800m. Celestial Grey Slow to begin. Dew Drop Shortly after straightening became held up on heels and was unable to be fully tested until near the 200m. Dress Sense Raced wide, and inclined to pull, in the early and middle stages. Appeared to be galloped on near the 800m. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 30.11L and commenced to weaken quickly from the 600m, revealed no abnormality other than it had been galloped on the off hind hock. Trainer Mr S. Lee was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Grande Casadora Change of Tactics, to be ridden with cover, settled behind leader. Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Eased from heels passing the 900m. Kingaroy Ran wide rounding the home turn. Madam Kate Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Carried wider rounding the home turn. Stellar Jewel Shifted out under pressure at the entrance to the straight.

6 6 Veni Vidi Vici Overraced in the early stages. Bumped on straightening. Yankee Express Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Passing the 300m was steadied when buffeted between Youngstown, which shifted in slightly, and Carrs Creek Kid which shifted out. Jockey M. Paget (Carrs Creek Kid) was reprimanded (AR137(a)). Youngstown Bumped on straightening. Bumped and unbalanced near the 300m. A post race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. RACE 8: Class 3 Handicap 1406m Arrogant Boy Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Better Be Good Slow to begin. Celtic Trail At the entrance to the straight was eased after laying out onto heels. Cool Prince Slow to begin. Dark Image Unable to improve approaching and rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Granola State When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding trainer Mr S. Henley stated that he does not believe the gelding can run out a strong 1400m journey and its ability to do so today was further jeopardised when it was obliged to work hard in the early stages when challenged for the lead. Mr Henley added the gelding has had heavy racing in the last month and it will be freshened up prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Mystic Skies Began awkwardly. P artie Town Overraced approaching the first turn. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race Rider (Horse) Additional Strikes 3 S. Traecey (Moringa s Hiemie) 2 4 Ms B.
