Franklin was overweight, stewards permitted the following rider changes Race Rider (Horse) 3 S. Traecey (Dominant Crown), App J. Murphy (Perdu) 5 App J. Murphy (Tiarnan) 6 J. Taylor (Adorato) C. Franklin pleaded guilty to a charge under AR120(b) in that he accepted two rides for which he was overweight, namely Dominant Crown at 54.5kg and Adorato at 54.0kg. C. Franklins license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 9 November 2017 and to expire on Thursday 16 November 2017, on which day he may ride. In considering penalty stewards appreciated C. Franklins poor record with weight related issues. RACE 1: C,G&E Maiden Handicap 1106m: Airdale Slow to begin. Dramatic Moments (NZ) Slow to begin. Final Hit A pre race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was resuming after an extended period off, passed it fit to compete. Renewing Hope Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start. Overraced in the early stages. Passing the 800m raced fiercely whilst being restrained after improving onto the heels of another runner. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. Inclined to lay in down the straight. Hampered over the concluding stages. Shades of Italy Declared a late scratching by order of stewards, acting on veterinary advice, at 1.21pm after the gelding became fractious in the barriers, reared and sat down. Stewards ordered that all wagers on the gelding be refunded and that all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 1.21pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket, 5 cents the win and 5 cents the place for 1st (Dramatic Moments), 4 cents the place for 2nd (Hidden Storm) and 8 cents the place for 3 rd (There s Always One). 1

2 Trainer Mr B. Bellamy was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Tough One Slow to begin. Vondaye Slow to begin. RACE 2: F&M Maiden Handicap 1106m: Bettigood When questioned regarding the performance of the mare jockey L Rolls stated that from the wide barrier his mount was obliged to work early to establish a forward position. L. Rolls stated that his mount travelled well in the middle stages however failed to respond to pressure at the entrance to the straight and weakened in its run to the line. L. Rolls added his mount was making an abnormal respiratory noise whilst pulling up and he was of the opinion it may have got its tongue behind the bit or held its breath. When questioned, trainer Mr J. Shelton stated the mare had worked well and he expected a forward showing today. Mr Shelton undertook to provide the results of an endoscopic examination on the mare in the coming days and advised he would experiment with a tongue tie prior to its next race start. Mr Shelton was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares poor performance. D great Sun Began awkwardly. Inclined to hang out in the early stages. Jaylo Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Lady Light Approaching the 800m commenced to overrace and continued to passing the 500m where the mare was steadied for a number of strides after improving onto heels. Lady Sunday Blundered on jumping. Secrets No More Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out down the straight. Talkerup Raced wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare jockey Ms C. Schmidt stated her mount is only a small horse and was required to carry 59kg. Ms Schmidt stated that her mount was inclined to race greenly in the early stages, raced wide throughout and failed to let down strongly in the straight on the firm track. A post race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mrs D. Campbell was advised that a warning would be place on the mares competitiveness. Youngstown Slow to begin. RACE 3: Class 3 Handicap 1006m: Dominant Crown Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted in under pressure down the straight. Generate (NZ) - Buffeted between runners approaching the first turn. Rounding the first turn was eased and shifted out after improving onto heels. 2

3 Ilia Raced very wide in the early and middle stages. Perdu Buffeted between runners approaching the first turn. Siroccan Lad When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey P. Graham stated that his mount settled in a handy position with cover throughout the early and middle stages however at no time did it travel strongly. P. Graham stated that when placed under pressure on straightening his mount failed to stretch out and in his opinion it did not appreciate the firm racing surface. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Tee Lexus Apprentice Ms B. Stower (Alatora) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, under AR137(a), in that near the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Tee Lexus which clipped her mounts heels, blundered and lost its rightful running. Ms Stower s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 9 November 2017 and to expire on Friday 17 November 2017, on which day she may ride. Zizumba Slow to begin (2L). RACE 4: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1710m: Ask the Price Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Bernie of Babylon Raced wide in the early stages. Hampered rounding the home turn. Momentarily eased from heels near the 200m. Galiano When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey R. Spokes stated that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run behind a genuine tempo in the early and middle stages. R. Spokes added that when he asked his mount to sprint approaching the home turn it failed to respond strongly and raced dour. R. Spokes stated whilst it was not obvious his mount did not appreciate the firm surface he noted the geldings best form is on softer track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be showing symptoms of tenderness in the feet. Like a Ruler Began awkwardly. Lucky Jackson Ran wide rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Morris was fined $300 for using his whip on two additional occasions to the 5 permitted prior to the 100m (AR137A(5)(a)(ii))). Mexican Mountain Blundered making the crossing at the 1400m. Napayshini Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start. Approaching the 500m was eased after improving onto heels. Approaching the 200m was obliged to ease and shift out around heels to continue to improve. With Every Bound Inclined to pull in the early stages. Hung out in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding trainer Mr S. Everson stated that the gelding is an inconsistent performer that has performed 3

4 best when able to lead its events uncontested. S. Everson added today, when caught in a midfield position, the gelding lost ground when it hung out between the 800m and 400m, and in his opinion showed no interest in racing down the straight when placed under minimal pressure. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to need dental work of which Mr Everson undertook to have completed. Mr Everson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for hanging and uncompetitiveness. RACE 5: Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1710m: Bearly Thinking Inclined to overrace in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Blue Monte Raced wide in the early and middle stages. El Teniente Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Unable to be fully tested over the final 200m when held up on heels. Letter of Charm Bumped rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room at the entrance to the straight. Eased when tightened for room approaching the 300m. Approaching the 200m was obliged to ease and shift in around heels to continue to improve. Miss Artorius When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the mare trainer Mr J. Shelton advised it was only the mares third start for his stable. Mr Shelton advised that the mare had performed fairly at its two previous starts and had taken natural benefit from racing. Mr Shelton added the mare enjoyed a comfortable run behind a genuine tempo which enabled it to finish off the race. Myambla Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Option Trader (NZ) As J. Oliver was ill stewards permitted S. Thurlow to replace him as the rider of the gelding. J. Oliver was advised that he requires a doctors certificate detailing his inability to ride. Hung in over the final 600m. Stella s Chance Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Wraith of Odin Slow to begin. Eased when tightened between runners at the entrance to the straight. You Es Commander Raced wide in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be showing symptoms of having jarred up on the firm track conditions. An inspection of an area of the course proper passing the 1600m revealed, what appeared to be a snake on the official video footage of the event to be, a piece of black plastic, which was duly removed. RACE 6: Class 2 Handicap 1410m: Adorato Hampered shortly after the start. 4

5 Bright Lights Baby Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Desert Rush Overraced approaching and rounding the first turn. Paco Express Blundered shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Pajados Hampered shortly after the start. Runaway Jet Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Solar Lady As J. Morris was feeling the effects of asthma stewards permitted Ms K. Stanley to replace him as the rider of the mare. RACE 7: Benchmark 55 Handicap 1206m: Arabian Dancer Slow to begin. Hampred shortly after straightening. Doctor Zed Bumped another runner near the 1100m. Geileis Bumped on jumping. Bumped inwards near the 1100m. Grenache Near the 150m was eased when disappointed for a run. Leica Celebre Overraced approaching and rounding the first turn. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Midweek Hussler Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Overraced rounding the first turn. Noble Ethics Near the 800m Grenache laid in, despite the efforts of its rider, and bumped its hindquarter on the shoulder of Noble Ethics resulting in it being turned inwards across the running of Noble Ethics and that runner being checked severely, becoming severely unbalanced and taking no competitive part in the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to have a number of superficial lacerations to the off fore leg. The racing manners of Grenache were brought to the attention of its trainer Mr D. Simonetta. Phast Lad Dropped its head as the start was effected and lost ground (~6L). Trainer Mr T. Pratt was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. Checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid heels near the 800m. Red Deck Bumped on jumping. Safety Peg Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Water Boy (NZ) As D. Peisley had transport difficulties stewards permitted R. Plumb to replace him as the rider of the gelding. Bumped on jumping. Momentarily held up on heels near the 200m. 5

6 RACE 8: Open Handicap 1106m: Dreamalina Inclined to hang out between the 600m and entrance to the straight. Hydrazine Raced wide in the early and middle stages. I am the Sculptor Began awkwardly. Near the 800m was checked from the heels of Pomme Petite which, whilst laying in, shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice Ms O. Pickering (Pomme Petite) was reprimanded and advised she must make greater effort in similar circumstances. Inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages. Lyric Began awkwardly. Pomme Petite Laid in approaching and rounding the first turn. WHIP OFFENCES: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii)).
