Stockdale reported from a wide barrier the gelding settled further back than intended and he was obliged to make a long run to put his mount into the race. Rider A. Creighton was issued with a severe reprimand for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. Soldiers Opera commenced awkwardly and shifted in. Creighton (RAIN FAST) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR 137(a). The careless riding being that near the 1000m, A. Creighton has carelessly permitted RAIN FAST to shift in when not sufficiently clear of DRAGON ARTIST that has been taken in off its course resulting in SOLDIERS OPERA which was racing to the inside having to be checked. The licence of A. Creighton to ride in races was suspended for a total of 12 meetings commencing midnight March 8th 2016 and ceasing at midnight on March 17th (3 metropolitan, 9 provincial) In assessing the penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the mid range and took into account A. Creightons record, the circumstances and the fact DRAGON ARTIST was over racing.
