1 July2016 Horse Tales The Monthly Newsletter of Poway Valley Riders Association Just some notes from the Prez s desk... Here s an update for the general membership on the boards tasks and accomplishments of the term so far, in a sort of a chronological order. Though most of this stuff happens behind the scenes and few see how much work is done, the board and I have been pretty darned busy! We p u r c h a s e d t h e t r a i l e r f r o m J a y. Added two new event series to the 2016 calendar Working Equitation and the Cowboy Challenge. Both have shown to be a huge success. Joe Eger, our new caretaker is settling in, and renovating the mobile home interior. Locks have been rekeyed and new keys distributed. Plans have been approved for a new patio shade between the Chuckwagon and entry booth. Installation to begin soon. New ripper teeth have been installed in the tractor drag, and 40 new backups were purchased and are on hand. Dragging meeting was held in May Calendar 2 Classified Ads Calendar Overview 4 Membership Meeting Minutes 5 May. Everyone s been informed of each areas needs. A rough schedule has been put together. One load of sand for ring 1 has been delivered and spread. The remaining 3 loads will arrive on August 1st. Ring 1 will be unavailable for hours during that time. It ll be announced on the FB closed member page as a backup reminder. One load of sand for the Dressage court will also be placed down in August, with similar implications. We have scheduled to replace the main power line to the mobile home. It s 30+ years old and has been repaired too many times. Time to replace it. Chuckwagon generating good revenue, even with slightly fewer shows. S h o w s a n d c l i n i c s a r e d o i n g w e l l. Membership dues increase approved and will take effect the second half of dues have been the same for 10 years, not keeping up with inflation or expenses. In this issue... Board Highlights 6 High Point 7 Dressage Premium 8 GymkhanaPremium 9 Hunter Jumper Premium 10 So that s a recap of most of the stuff going on...not necessarily complete, but probably got most of it. Lots going on, and we re only halfway through the year! :-) We re all trying our best to make our club the best it can be. Amongst the work for the club, I got to ride on Saturday in PVRA s Working Equitation event. Morro and I had a great time decked out in our Spanish gear. If you haven t had a look at Working Eq, you should. You can go English, Western or even Spanish. Very challenging and lots of fun! Ride on! Jeff Hedgecock, PVRA Board President Notice: Arenas may be closed the afternoon prior to a show for set up. Please respect the "arena closed" signs. Also, do not ride in an arena while it is being dragged. Working Equitation: Next one this Saturday. Rodeo: No report Board Member of the Month: May is Veronika. Chuckwagon: Two hours at the last gymkhana brought in about $60. Grill was left out by an unknown user. Parker moved to use $250 to buy a new grill. Mike seconded, passed. The gas tank needs to be locked up. Trainer Certificates: (Jess) wants to ask Susan Harris to add club as additionally insured. Rentals: (Jess) Lisa Peskin asked about donating PVRA for special needs riding event. Jess said we can't offer free use, but can offer as a rental. Rental of facility for dog "show" discussed, but unknown if they can afford to rent. More details needed. Parker said he would contact those requesting information. Polo: (Parker) Polo supports purchasing the Black Widow drag because we saw one in Texas. Right now, ring 1 is too deep. Confirmed that polo hitting cage was approved, and it would only be open during polo hours. Would like to move location of previously approved shed from under bleachers to a place closer to Ring 1 entry - close to grounds east fence line. He will bring a photo. Jess will put new polo flyer on PVRA page. Regarding haul in fees, Jeff suggested either profit share for tournaments (per Sec B Subgroups, #8), or use as a rental like Pony Club does. OLD BUSINESS Ring 1 Sand: Sand delivery between June 12 and June 25. Area 1 lights: Bid came in at $62,000. Deemed not feasible to present to club. Amp for rear speaker: Mike will continue to get one. Black Widow drag: Need membership approval to buy. Jeff will get demo regardless of vote.
