1 BEEF LIVESTOCK DEMONSTRATIONS Friday, August 5, :00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. By the 4-H Barns Livestock demo may be related to any livestock area that the member is enrolled in. Demo shall not exceed 15 minutes in length. County cash prizes of $25, $20, $15 and $10 for the first four placings will be awarded. All others will receive a $5 premium. Livestock demonstration can be taken to State Fair in addition to a regular non-livestock trip. In order to take this for a state fair trip, it must be on your fair registration. Demonstrate your knowledge by using your animal as a visual aid. At State Fair a $30.00 premium is given. The 4-H er must use an animal already showing at the State Fair. All 4-H ers who demonstrate are eligible for State Fair and the $30 premium. If the member has a livestock trip they may use their own animal at the State Fair. If member is not showing an animal at State Fair he/she must borrow another member s animal. A live animal must be incorporated into this demonstration. Two entries in Market Beef Lots are allowed. 4-H members can show 2 market beef animals at the county fair. These can be two animals in the same lot or one animal in each of two different lots listed here as Beef Market Steers, Beef Market Heifers and Dairy Market Steers. If two animals are shown in the same lot, it is expected that one would be at a weight and condition that is most suitable for the County Fair and one would be at a weight and condition more suitable for State Fair so they would not show in the same weight group at the County Fair.

2 Auction Note: Each 4-H member can consign only ONE animal to the auction from all market lots in all species. The animal that is being weighed for the auction must be identified at the County Fair scale BEFORE it is weighed. A separate Auction Consignment Form MUST be turned in with Fair Entries by July 11 th. ** Proper Beef Showing Attire: Nice top, either button up or polo, belt, hard soled shoes and no hats. These breeds will be accepted without registration papers: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein and Jersey. Milking Shorthorn dairy steers must be registered with American Milking Shorthorn Society and not carry the S suffix. - Dairy Steers showing permanent teeth may be shown, but they can place no higher than a red ribbon and they will not be eligible for State Fair or auction. - Crossbred Dairy Steers must be from the following breeds in any combination: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Montebeliarde, Normande, Red & White, Norwegian Red and Viking Red (Swedish, Danish & Finnish Red). 3 CLARIFICATION ON BREED ANCESTRY Animals identified as Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein or Jersey, must be 87% (7/8) or more of any one breed. Milking Shorthorn must be 75% (3/4) or more Milking Shorthorn. If breed parentage does not meet these rules, the animal will be shown in the Crossbred and Other Breeds class. RED & WHITE SHOW - Must be registered. We will accept registration papers and/or a certificate of identification from Holstein Association USA, Red &White Dairy Cattle Association, Holstein Association USA showing the suffix red and Holstein Canada showing the suffix Red. May be dual registered. Red & White animals with no papers will show in the breed they exhibit characteristics and ancestry. - Must be true red with no black or brindle. Show management reserves the right to deny any animal with a questionable hair coat. - Dairy ID must show animal s breed as Red & White on May 15 th deadline. CROSSBRED AND OTHER BREEDS CLASS If an animal is less than 87% (7/8) (Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein or Jersey) or 75% (3/4) Milking Shorthorn of any one breed, it must be exhibited in the Crossbred and Other Breeds class. 7 - All dogs must be vaccinated according to the requirements listed on the MN 4-H Dog Project ID Affidavit and Vaccination Form. - 4-Hers 3 rd grade and up are eligible for county and state dog shows. HORSE Special instructions 1. Only mare and geldings will be allowed at the fair. Maximum of two horses per exhibitor. Horses can not be shared by exhibitors. 2. Horses will be exercised in only a designated area. 3. Horses MUST be halter broke and have a strong halter and rope with a good snap. 4. Any foal must be able to be tied and left in the barn while the mare is out. 5. A) List all classes you wish to enter. If taking two horses, indicate which classes each horse will be participating in. B) If I.D. forms are not in the Extension office by May 16th, horse may be shown but no premium, trophy or trips given. 6. DRESS CODE for county judging: Jeans and western long sleeved shirt, western boots or appropriate English attire. All 4-Hers participating in any 4-H sponsored mounted activity are required to wear properly fastened ASTM/SEI approved protective headgear. Helmet use is required when mounted. This policy also extends to 4-H volunteers when they are working with 4-H youth in a 4-H volunteer role during mounted activities. Points will be awarded for ALL county classes which are part of the State Show. 8. Youth may accept one trip to the State Horse Show, either a horse trip or horse related exhibit. 9. Pony is defined as a horse under 13.2 hands or 54 inches. 10. Additional instructions will be sent before the fair. 11. Housing of all horses: ALL horses must be housed at the Fair through release time on Sunday. If there is a shortage of stalls, arrangements will be made as necessary. 12. If you wish to exhibit two horses, it must be listed on your fair registration form, you may not add a second horse after July 13th.
