4 Lawrence County Youth Fair June 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd, 2012 Freistatt, Missouri General Rules & Regulations Eligibility 1. Exhibitors MUST be a member of a FFA Chapter or a 4-H Club and reside in the state of Missouri. 2. Exhibitors must be a resident of Lawrence County or a member of a Lawrence County FFA Chapter or 4-H Club to be eligible to sell in the premium sale. They can not sell in more than one county fair premium sale during the same year H Clover Kids may ONLY exhibit in the Rabbit, Market Broiler and Dog shows. No other species areas will be allowed to be shown by Clover Kids. They will be judged as a group and receive participation ribbons. No entry fee will be charged and therefore they will not receive premium money. 4. There is a limit of two entries per class, per exhibitor. With additional limits of ten sheep, goats or swine and five beef or dairy cattle per exhibitor. 5. Any exhibitor competing for a showmanship award must participate in at least one other category in that same show. The rule of rotation will apply, unless the exhibitor is moving from the Junior to the Senior division. Typically, the divisions are; Junior yrs, Senior - Ages 14 and older. Exhibitor Responsibilities 6. Any late entries will be charged double the original entry fee. 7. The Show Committee (comprised of the show superintendents and representatives of the fair board) will have full control of placing and stalling of all livestock. No bedding or feed will be placed until stalls are assigned by the Show Committee representative. 8. No exhibit shall be removed until the Show Committee chair decides. 9. Pens must be kept clean at all times and refuse/waste piled in the designated area. Exhibitors must provide their own bedding and feed. 10. Care and Precautions should be taken to prevent accidents or injuries to employees, exhibitors, fair volunteers / patrons and animals. 11. All animals to be exhibited must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitors. 4

5 12. All exhibitors MUST follow the guidelines specified by the Missouri State Veterinarian for each species exhibited or brought onto fair property. 13. All livestock exhibitors: Sheep, Swine, Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle, Horses, Poultry and Goats must be released by the show superintendent before leaving the show area if you wish to have your premium checks released to you. 14. Exhibitors are responsible for pen and fairground cleanup. Judging Format & Premiums 15. The awarding of premiums will be confined to the categories specified on the entry form. 16. The Danish System of judging will be utilized in all classes and ribbons will be awarded using the following colors if available: Champion royal purple, Reserve Champion pink, First blue, Second red, Third white. Entries must be a blue ribbon winner to qualify for consideration for Champion and Reserve Champion. Protests or Appeals 17. Any disputes not covered in any areas specifically address in any department, species category or specified written rule will be settled by the Show Committee. 18. The decision of the judges in each category will be final with no appeal considered except in cases of protest. 19. All protests must be made in writing and accompanied with a $50 deposit. This deposit will be forfeit in the event that the protest is not sustained. Said protest must be filed with the fair board secretary within 5 hours after the award is signed. Award will be considered to have been made when entry book is finalized and signed. 20. No complaint or appeal will be considered which claims the judges to be incompetent or that they have overlooked an entry or exhibit. 21. The right of the exhibitor to appeal from the decision of the judges to the Show Committee may be only when it is charged that the award has been in violation of the rules governing the exhibit or when it is charged that the decision of the judges had been influenced or interfered with by another. 5

6 Lawrence County Youth Fair Premium Sale Rules Eligibility 1. Exhibitors MUST be a member of a FFA Chapter or a 4-H Club and reside in the state of Missouri. 2. Exhibitors must be a resident of Lawrence County or a member of a Lawrence County FFA Chapter or 4-H Club to be eligible to sell in the premium sale. They can not sell in more than one county fair premium sale during the same year. 3. Exhibitor MUST be present to sell in the premium sale. 4. Only one animal, pen or ham may sell per exhibitor. This is a premium sale. Ownership of animals or items does not change hands as a result of the sale. 5. Only market animals and hams are eligible for the sale: Steers, Market Hogs, Market Lambs, Market Goat, Pen of 3 Market Broilers, Pen of 3 Market Rabbits and Cured Hams. 6. Each Exhibitor that is participating in the premium sale is required to help with at least one of the following activities; Buyer Appreciation Supper, Sale and Supper Setup or Cleanup. 7. Each exhibitor that participates in the premium sale is required to provide 3 pre-sale contacts of potential buyers by May 18, 2012 in order to be eligible for the sale. 8. Each exhibitor that participates in the premium sale is required to assist the Lawrence County Youth Fair in fund-raising by selling two raffle tickets prior to the sale in order to be eligible for the sale. 9. A commission of 5% will be collected on all exhibit sales at the premium sale to provide funding for the Lawrence County Youth Fair Scholarship. 10. Premium Sale checks will not be issued until thank you notes have been written to buyers and those paying add-ons and turned into the Premium Sale Committee. Details will be provided to participants at the Premium Sale. 11. 7 2012 Lawrence County Youth Fair Scholarship Application Applications MUST be postmarked before May 1 st and are available from your FFA Advisor, 4-H Leader or online at Eligibility - To be eligible for the scholarship an applicant must: 1. Be a high school senior 2. Be an active 4-H or FFA member 3. Have participated in the Lawrence County Youth Fair as an exhibitor of 4-H or FFA. 4. Plan to enroll in an accredited college or university or technical school. 5. They must be associated with a 4-H or FFA within Lawrence County. Applications must be postmarked by May 1 st and mailed to Karla Grimm, LCYF Scholarship Committee Chair Lawrence 1210 Aurora, MO The applicants will be interviewed on May 7 th at the University of Missouri Extension Office in Mt. Vernon at 6:00 p.m. 7

8 2012 Lawrence County Youth Fair Scholarship Application Guidelines 1. This scholarship will be worth $ The applicant must have shown at the Lawrence County Youth Fair under an FFA or 4-H chapter in Lawrence County. 3. Individuals must be a high school senior at the time of application. Individuals must also be an active 4-H or FFA member at the time that the scholarship will be awarded. Active Membership is based on the national constitution guidelines for FFA and State guidelines for 4-H 4. Students must plan to enroll in an accredited community college, college or university, or technical school. Type of major will not be a factor. 5. Applicants must submit their ACT score and grade point along with their class rank. 6. Please submit two letters of recommendation with the application. 7. The winner of this scholarship must verify a 2.5 grade point average at the end of the first semester attended; then the school in which the applicant attends will receive the scholarship in care of the applicant. 8. 9 Lawrence County Youth Fair Royalty Pageant Rules Queen Princess Lil Princess Ages Ages Ages Applications must be submitted by May 1 st, 2012 and are available online at 2. Applications may be picked up and dropped off at Norma s Inline Fashions in Aurora, University of Missouri Extension Center in Mt. Vernon, or to Janella Spencer: (417) The Pageant is scheduled for 3 pm, May 13 th, 2012 at Norma s Inline Fashions in Aurora, Missouri. 4. Contestants must have been a resident of Lawrence County for at least one year prior to the fair. 5. The winner of the Queen title is entitled to represent Lawrence County at the 2012 Missouri State Fair at Sedalia in August. 6. Contestants must be unmarried and have no children. 7. The Queen will relinquish her crown if she enters into a marriage contract or if her conduct and/or behavior are deemed to be improper for a representative of the Lawrence County Youth Fair. In which case her title will be taken over by the first runner up. 8. Duties: The Queen, Princess and Lil Princess must be available during the 2012 Lawrence County Youth Fair to assist the Fair Board and represent the Fair at various functions throughout the year. 9

Open to all 4-H Club and FFA Members 2. Less than 8 minutes in length 3. Topic: Any Agricultural Topic 4. Winning speech will be eligible to represent Lawrence County at the Missouri Association of Fairs and Festivals competition in January in Columbia. Cured Ham Superintendent: Lyle Whitaker Rules & Regulations: 1. Hams should be entered in the Ernte Fest Building on the fairgrounds 2. All entries must have been hand trimmed and cured by the exhibitor within the state of Missouri. 3. Hams and bacons are not required to be federally inspected to compete. 4. Hams must be whole, cured country style and may not be cut or sliced. 5. Ham weights must be a minimum of 12 pounds with no upper limit. 6. To maximize the child's learning, members showing in youth classes are encouraged to do their own project work. The parent and child should decide how much the member is able to do on their own, but having someone else totally do the work for the member is inappropriate. 11

12 Agricultural Mechanics Superintendent: Jason Haymes Rules & Regulations: 1. All Agricultural Mechanics entries must have been constructed by FFA members either as part of their agricultural mechanics instruction in agricultural education or as part of their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program. 2. No Agricultural Education instructors or students will be allowed to confer with the officials during the judging process. 3. An item can only be exhibited once. However it does not have to have been constructed in the same year it is exhibited. 4. Articles must be painted or properly treated. All items must be clean and in presentable condition at show time, even if they have been used. 5. Each exhibitor is limited to a total of two entries of the same kind or type of project. 6. Points assigned to projects are based upon the amount of difficulty of work involved, difficulty and cost of moving and the cost of materials. Points assigned to entries are based upon the guidelines of the Missouri State Fair. 7. The Superintendent may adjust points up or down within a range of 50% when a project is unusual in size or difficulty and appears necessary in order to keep the points value in balance. 8. Projects built to be used as one unit should be entered as one entry and not entered separately. For example, trailer ramps built as part of a single trailer project should not be entered separate from the trailer they belong to. 9. The Agricultural Mechanics Superintendent and Fair Board Officials will make the final ruling if questions arise. 10. Exhibits will be released at 6:00 pm, Saturday, June 2 nd. Premiums will not be paid for exhibits leaving the fairgrounds before the release time. Exhibits remaining on the fairgrounds property after the release time will be unattended and are not the responsibility of the Lawrence County Fair Board. 12

21 Market Broilers Superintendent: Jay Shepherd Class No. Class Name Birth/Age Range 900 Market Broilers, Pen of 3 Approximately 6 Weeks (age will vary upon chick availability) Notes: 1. FFA and 4-H members wishing to reserve birds for a pen of broilers should contact their FFA Advisor or 4-H Leaders by March 30 th. Those Leaders and Advisors should contact the show superintendent no later than April 1 st in order to ensure adequate numbers of chicks by the pickup date. 2. All exhibitors MUST pickup their chicks at Mt. Vernon High School Agriculture Building at 3:00 pm, April 24 th, These will be the ONLY birds allowed to participate in the broiler show. 3. Only one pen of birds allowed per exhibitor. Entry forms for their pen must be turned in at the time of chick pickup to ensure adequate number of cages on show day. 4. Exhibitors will receive 15 birds and a packet of management information and practices at the time of pickup. Practices covered include such management items as temperature, feeding, watering, medication, etc. It is HIGHLY suggested that the contestant do research and preparation BEFORE the day they pickup chicks. 5. Exhibitors will feed and manage their birds for a period of 6 weeks. As the show date approaches, they will then select their best three birds to comprise a pen. These three birds must have a combined weight of 12 lbs for the pen to be eligible for the premium sale. 6. No birds will be allowed to be rearranged after they are placed in the cages at the fair. 7. Premiums will be awarded on the Danish System. (Blue, Red, White) 8. All Pens meeting the minimum weight will qualify for the Premium Sale. Pens will be sold at the Lawrence County Youth Fair Premium Auction on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 7:00 pm. 21

The child may not have had canter and lope experience and will not be allowed to do so. This is a novice rider class
