4 P a g e 3 Callaway Youth Expo 4-H / FFA General Livestock Rules Livestock Superintendent: Larry Henneke (573) , Assistant: Chip Kemp (573) The following rules and regulations are to be followed by each 4-H and FFA member when he or she exhibits his or her Livestock or Hams at the Callaway Youth Expo A pre-registration form may be required for your species. Check entry forms for requirements. All animals must be in place at the time specified under your project. See livestock superintendent for pen assignments. A member must be enrolled in the project in which he or she exhibits. All 4-H members and FFA members must be a member in good standing with their clubs or chapters. 4-H Food Quality Assurance Policy All 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects (including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy goats, rabbits, hams & bacon, and poultry) must complete the appropriate level of Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance (MSMQA) certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing in that project. Other county good standing guidelines may also apply. Check with your local 4-H youth specialist for current local guidelines. The online tutorial is available at: agebb.missouri.edu/smqa/. Showing animals Livestock must be shown by the member unless granted permission by the livestock committee or if the member has more than one animal in the same weight division. 1. Ownership of livestock animals must be accomplished by the date shown. One of the objectives in owning an animal is to learn new skills in animal breeding, feeding, management and health. To accomplish this, the member should secure the animal as early in the year as possible. This is required for exhibition by the 4-H/FFA member. 2. Ownership dates: January 1 Steers, Market Heifers and Bucket Calves March 1 Hatch date for poultry (not including market poultry) April 1 Dog May 1 Sheep, Goat, Rabbits, Dairy Cattle, Horses, Swine, Poultry, Beef breeding animals 3. A Program year runs from October to September (example: 2018 program year runs 5. from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.) All 4-H and FFA market animals must be weighed-in at official weigh-in times (when applicable) as designated by the 6. Livestock Committee and state in this book under each species. 7. Sheep and goats must be identified with a scrapie tag or tattoo, and have health papers. 8. All animals showing for champion must have received a blue ribbon in their class. Showmanship awards in Beef, Goats, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep and Swine are limited to Callaway County Youth 9. and reciprocating (showmanship classes) counties only. 10. All exhibitors are expected to keep their exhibit area, including walking, path, clean and free of manure and debris. 11. No animal that shows signs of pregnancy can show in any CYE market show. No single animal can show in both the breeding show and the market show in the same year s Callaway Youth Expo. 12. Animals showing clinical evidence of disease will not be permitted to show and shall be subject to isolation or 13. expulsion, depending upon the nature and seriousness of the disease. All animals must remain stalled on the grounds through the completion of the respective show in which they are 14. registered. No animal can load or leave the grounds until the completion of their respective show. 15. Failure to comply with these or any other rules will result in forfeiture of all premiums earned. If any information is inadvertently omitted or incorrectly printed, the 4-H and FFA Superintendents have the final 16. say.

5 P a g e 4 Livestock Auction Rules Superintendent: Christina Wilkerson (573) Saturday of the Expo 7:00pm Auction Begins at the CYE Arena. 2. A member must be enrolled in the project in which he or she exhibits. All 4-H members and FFA members must be a member in good standing with their clubs or chapters to sell in the auction. Those not considered in good standing will not be allowed to sell. 3. Callaway Youth Expo Sale Requirements: worked a CYE work day, worked a 2 hour shift during the CYE, completed Show Me Quality Assurance training, a dessert brought to the Buyer s Dinner, and a returned filled out buyer s sheet (by the time specified on the sheet). 4. A 10% sellers fee will be held if sale requirements are not met in addition to the fees below. 5. Fees taken out of the total of the sale check: A 3% sellers fee, an animal check off fee (if applicable), a $5.00 ad donation, and a $10 buyers dinner fee. Checks will be available from the sale approximately 4 weeks from the sale date. 6. The seller is to send a personal thank you to the buyer. 7. Working at the 4-H Food Booth does not count towards sale requirements. 8. Only animals that are shown in market classes are eligible for sale 9. It is the seller s responsibility to arrange deliver to the buyer. 10. All market animals participating in the CYE Auction must be in place by 8am on Saturday of the sale. 11. Sale t-shirts will be provided free of charge to youth selling in the auction and will be distributed the night of the sale and must be worn during the sale. Silent Auction Rules Superintendent: Sara Borcherding (573) Saturday of the Expo 7:00pm Auction Begins near the CYE arena. 2. To have projects considered for the silent auction on Saturday night of the CYE they must be blue ribbon or state fair projects from Callaway County 4-H and have completed CYE requirements to sell. 3. All food projects must be freshly made. 4. All participants must complete a sale form upon entering their project for judging if they wish to sell, should they win a state or blue ribbon. 5. Participants must be a member in good standing with their club and work a shift in the Exhibit Building. 6. All items to be sold will be marked as such during the display period between judging and the sale date. 7. Participation is only open to those not participating in the livestock/ham auction. 8. All items for the silent auction must be properly checked out with the Home Arts Superintendent on the day of the sale. 9. If an item is competing in the state fair it is the sellers responsibility to deliver the item to the buyer. 10. Extra fees will not be collected from Silent Auction Items

All rules in the General Livestock section apply. 4. Cross Gilts will show by weight. Purebreds will show by farrowed date. 5. Superintendent will determine market hog weight classes after the entries have been weighed-in. 6. Barrows and gilts may be shown as market hogs. Gilts shown as market hogs may not be shown as breeding hogs and vice versa. 7. All market hogs and breeding gilts must be farrowed by December 1 of program year or after. 8. No straw is allowed. All Swine are to be ear-notched and /or ear tagged. b. All market hogs must be weighed in at Expo for final weight to show and sell at the fair. c. Production Swine program (PSP) see rules that apply. d. There is no OPEN SHOW but children under the 4-H age of 8 are welcome and encouraged to show. e. In case an out of county Swine wins, an in county sale champion will be picked. Swine intent to participate: a. Birth date and Id of animal to be sent into Extension Center on intent to participate form due the second Friday in May. Ownership Date: Ownership of livestock animals must be accomplished by the date shown. 7 P a g e 6 CYE Youth Production Market Swine Program Guidelines Superintendent: Bailey Abell (573) & PSP Coordinator- Tim Safranski 1. The CYE Youth Production Market Swine Program (PSP) is designed to give interested youth additional insight into commercial market swine production. Insight is delivered through: educational modules (determined by PSP coordinator), a three tiered measure swine value, rate of gain, carcass value (via ultrasound), and live score (via live judging). All CYE Market Swine rules apply to PSP. 2. Thursday of the Expo 6:00 pm Swine Show 3. All rules in the General Livestock section apply. 4. Any specific PSP rules are in addition to established CYE Market Swine rules. 5. Superintendent will determine market hog weight classes after the entries have been weighed-in. 6. Barrows and gilts may be shown as market hogs. Gilts shown as market hogs may not be shown as breeding hogs and vice versa. 7. All swine in this show must have been coordinated with the PSP coordinator by January 15 of the CYE display year. Market swine in the PSP can only be sourced from swine producers recognized by the CYE Livestock Committee as eligible producers for the PSP. 8. PSP swine birthdates must be within a two week window of time established by the PSP coordinator. The PSP coordinator will organize swine purchasing schedules with PSP eligible producers and PSP participating youth. Animal weights will be taken at this time and documented by the PSP Coordinator for use in the rate of gain calculation. 9. All PSP participants can enter up to four head of market swine. 10. PSP participants are eligible for the CYE animal auction per existing CYE rules. 11. No straw is allowed. A B Entry Fee is $30.00 per head for PSP (includes Ultra sound) It is the participant s responsibility to completely fill out the online entry form by the due date. 1. PSP swine will receive a live score via the CYE swine show judge in a specific PSP class at the CYE. 2. At the completion of the PSP class, the overall scores (compilation of rate of gain, ultrasound, and live scores) for all PSP swine will be calculated and the winner and runner up of the PSP will be announced. 3. The PSP winner will be eligible for the CYE Grand Champion Market Swine drive. Should the PSP winner be selected as the CYE Grand Champion, then the PSP runner up will compete for the CYE Reserve Champion. 1. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants using the Danish System (blue, red, white). 2. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will receive a rosette and award. Swine Program Rules: a. All Swine are to be ear-notched and /or ear tagged. b. All market hogs must be weighed in at Expo for final weight to show and sell at the fair. c. Production Swine program (PSP) see rules that apply. d. There is no OPEN SHOW but children under the 4-H age of 8 are welcome and encouraged to show. e. Final interpretation of PSP rules is the discretion of the CYE BOD. Swine intent to participate: a. Birth date and id of animal to be sent into Extension Center on intent to participate form due the second Friday in May. Supt.: Brad Benne (636) Friday of the Expo: 10:00 am-market Beef in place with weigh-in to follow 6:00 pm-market Beef Show All market beef will be released following the Market Beef Show, except market beef being sold, which will be released 2. following the Youth Livestock Sale. 3. See general livestock rules that apply to your animal. 4. The Superintendent will determine weight classes after the entries have been weighed-in to ensure class size is near equal. 5. All steers must have been calved January 1, 2018, or after. 6. See sale requirements (in addition to those listed on this page) in the Youth Livestock & Ham Sales Rules & Regulations section of this book. A B C Entry Fee is $10.00 per head for market beef. It is the participant s responsibility to completely fill out the online entry form. Entry Fees will be collected the day of the market beef show at the Callaway Youth Expo. 1. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants using the Danish System (blue, red, white). 2. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will receive a rosette and award. Showmanship winners will receive a prize. 3. (Junior: 8-11 years) (Intermediate:12-15 years) (Senior: 16 years & older) 4. It is the participant s responsibility to completely fill out the entry form by the due date. Beef Program Rules: a. All calves must be weighed, unless special permission is granted by the committee. All market beef must be weighed in to show and sell at the fair. b. Official beginning weight taken at weight in. Market beef will be ear-tagged. They will not be de-horned or castrated. Date, time and place to be published in the newsletter c. Limit of 2 head per member to be weighed in. d. Final weight will be taken at the Callaway County Youth Expo. Market beef must weigh 900 lbs. to sell at the expo livestock sale. Market Beef Weigh-In: Held in January. All calves used in the project must be weighed in unless permission is granted by the committee otherwise. Cost will be determined each year for each calf. (There will be no castration or de-horning performed at the weigh-in.) Any animal not weighed in on official date cannot sell at the youth sale. Weigh in date for market beef will be Jan., at the Callaway Livestock Center from 8am-10am. Ownership Date: Ownership of livestock animals must be accomplished by the date shown. Champion Home Raised Class Rate of Gain Market Beef Show Classes Weight classes will be determined by Superintendent after weigh-in. Winner of each weight class will compete for grand & reserve champion. The animal has to have been owned by the exhibitor or a member of the immediate family and to have been birthed on the property that is owned or managed by the immediate family of the exhibitor. The animal must be cared for from birth to exhibition by the exhibitor on the local property. Winners will be calculated based off of January weigh in and CYE fair weigh in. All animals need to have been weighed in at the January weigh in to participate.

Exhibitors may show any breed (including, Market beef, Crossbred, and Dairy), any sex. 6. Limit of 2 entries per exhibitor. Judging will talk to exhibitors about knowledge of feeding, health, grooming, care, etc. (This is not the quality of the 7. animal.) 8. Superintendent will determine the classes after the entries have been weighed-in to ensure class size is near equal. A. Entry Fee is $5.00 per head. Entry fee will be collected the day of the show. 1. Each participant will receive a ribbon and an award.

13 P a g e 12 Youth Goat Show Superintendent: Jennifer Delashmutt, (573) Thursday of the Expo: 9:00 am - Goats in place; weigh-in to follow 1:00 pm - Goat show to begin immediately followed by the Sheep Show. All goats will be released following the Goat Show, except market goats being sold, which will be released following the Youth Livestock Sale. 2. See health regulations that apply to your animals in the Animal Health Requirements section of this book. 3. Show order will be determined by the Superintendent. 4.
