2 COUNTY FAIR ANIMAL CARE COMMITTEE POLICY STATEMENT The Atchison County Fair is the showplace for animal agriculture for the county. All animals and livestock shown, housed, or displayed shall receive care that is humane, healthful, and consistent with accepted practices. Cruelty, neglect, or indifference to animal comfort will not be tolerated and will constitute grounds for removal from the premises. Animal care shall be consistent with sound husbandry practices and with rules and regulations set by the Atchison County Fair Board. Professional veterinary care will be provided as needed. Animals experiencing illness, injury, or discomfort will be professionally attended to only by a licensed veterinarian. Exhibits shall reflect the care and concern that Missourians have for livestock, poultry, companion animals, and wildlife. 2
3 Atchison County Fair 4-H Open Horse Show Saturday, July 16, 2016, Tarkio Rodeo Arena, Tarkio, MO Registration 8:00-8:30 a.m.; show starts at 9:00 a.m. Entry fee: $5 per head Regulations: Health papers and a negative Coggins are required at the gate Only active members of 4-H or FFA are allowed to participate Must sign arena waiver and waiver for participation Must wear white button-down shirt with jeans and boots (4-H patch allowed) Must have a helmet to participate in under saddle classes (riders risk not to wear one during non-timed events) Must have a western hat to show at halter No washing of animals at rodeo grounds/arena No dogs allowed Use of snaffle bit or bosal is permitted and may use two hands on the aforementioned; all other bit/bridles shown one-handed No tie-downs with the exception of timed events All Missouri 4-H rules apply Must show in showmanship at halter and one under saddle class before participation in timed event or costume 1. 4 GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. The 2016 Missouri State Fair livestock rules will be followed, with the following exceptions: 2. Exhibitor must be officially enrolled in a 4-H program or FFA Chapter. 3. Ownership deadlines: breeding gilts, 90 days; market hogs, 5/1; breeding sheep, 7/1; market lambs, 6/1; breeding does, 6/1; market goats, 6/1; breeding beef, 6/1; market beef, 3/1. 4. Exhibitors must bring their own feed, water buckets, pans, and bedding. Hogs will bed on east side of hog barn. Washing will not be allowed in hog pens. There will be designated areas for used bedding. 5. Exhibitors must wear the official show t-shirt provided by the Fair Board during the shows and auction. 6. Exhibitors must show their own animals unless there are extenuating circumstances, in which case the exhibitor must notify the specie superintendent in a timely manner prior to the show. The livestock committee will rule on the final decision. Only bonafide county exhibitor or family member may show in an exhibitor s place. 7. The same animal is not allowed to show in both breeding and market classes. 8. Uncontrollable animals may be dismissed from the show ring by the superintendent or the fair board president. 9. All livestock classified by Danish System: Blue, Red, and White. 10. Any grievance must be voiced before the end of the show to the show superintendent and Fair Board president. 11. The livestock show will follow the animal health requirements for the 2016 Missouri State Fair (visit for requirements). 12. No intact males of any specie will be allowed to show, with the exception of feeder calves, poultry, and rabbits. 13. All animals that sell at auction must show. 14. An exhibitor may sell a maximum of TWO (2) animals in the auction. Auction animals can include breeding or market livestock, bucket calves, poultry, and rabbits. Feeder calves cannot be sold in the auction. 15. Buyers will bid the premium on dollars per animal starting from $0. Buyers pay premium bid the day of the sale. 16. The sale order will be set up to allow all exhibitors to sell one (1) animal before an exhibitor s second animal is sold. 17. The Atchison County Fair Board will make arrangements for hogs to be delivered to sale barn or packing plant. ATCHISON COUNTY MARKET LIVESTOCK RULES Weigh-day is optional, but market animals must be weighed at weigh-day to be eligible for the rate-of-gain contest and in-county champion. SHOWMANSHIP GUIDELINES 1. Showmanship classes include both breeding and market animals. 2. The exhibitor must show his/her own animal during the showmanship class. 3. Prizes will be awarded for Showmanship in each of the three showmanship classes: 11 yrs and under, yrs, and 17 yrs and older. Age is as of January 1, year of show. 4

Participants must furnish their own cages, carriers, and other supplies. 3. Rabbits must be free of evidence of infectious or contagious disease and will be subject to veterinary inspection. 4. Rabbit exhibits will be judged in accordance with ARBA standards. PEE-WEE RABBIT RULES: 1. Pee-Wee rabbit class is open to youth 4-7 years of age as of Junuary 1, year of show. 13 POULTRY SUPERINTENDENTS: ROSS HASTERT & AFTON SCHOMBURG GENERAL POULTRY SHOW RULES: 1. Ownership for meat pen of birds is 8-10 weeks prior to the show and eight weeks prior to the show for all other poultry. 2. Participants must furnish their own cages or carriers and other supplies. 3. Poultry exhibits will be judged in accordance with the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection. 4. Poultry trio exhibits must be different birds from single exhibits. 5. All poultry except waterfowl present at exhibitions in Missouri shall have originated from U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid clean or equivalent flocks, or have had a negative pullorum-typhoid test with ninety (90) days of the movement to the exhibition. This information will be documented on a VS form 9-2 or similar certificate, which will accompany the poultry during the exhibition. All poultry shall be free of any evidence of infectious or contagious disease. PEE-WEE POULTRY RULES: 1. Pee-Wee poultry class is open to youth 4-7 years of age as of January 1, year of show.
