1 2018 JOINT SUMMER CONVENTION - LOUISVILLE, KY The Official Bulletin - Spring 2018 We re Back Habibi! by Angie Siegel Clark and Lori Malouf Coronado The Lebanese American Country Club of Louisville is busy preparing for the Joint Southern/Midwest Convention here in Louisville on June 21-24, 2018 at the Galt House Hotel located right in Downtown Louisville. Downtown is a vibrant and bustling community recently named The Bourbon Trail due to the proliferation of distilleries within walking distance. Put on your comfortable shoes and visit Angels Envy, Jim Beam, and the Kentucky Peerless Distilleries; Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory; Muhammad Ali Center (a world class venue in honor of our most famous native son); Louisville Glassworks; or hop on a trolley and visit all of the sites our charming city has to offer! Senior Prom We will hold our Second Senior Prom on Friday, June 22 for women 75-years-young and up. This event is the Federation s way of showing sincere appreciation for our mature ladies who have consistently supported and promoted our heritage throughout their lives. Program Ad Book Regarding the Convention Program Ad Book, this year we want to change things up a bit and ask you to focus on memorial ads for those family members who are gone but not forgotten and those who remain active who have made us who we are today and have promoted, protected, and encouraged all of us to keep our heritage alive! Please get with family members to showcase your family in the Convention Book. Ads are due by June 1, and for any questions, please call Pete Zanetti at Day at the Races It's no secret that The Main Event will be held at the world famous Churchill Downs on Saturday, June 23. This track is home to the most famous two minutes in all of sports, the Kentucky Derby. 18

2 Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs One of the most Iconic Venues on Earth and we'll be going there on Saturday, June 23rd. Known as the home of the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks, Churchill Downs Racetrack conducts Thoroughbred horse racing in Louisville, Kentucky during three race meets in the Spring, September, and the Fall. The racetrack occupies 147 acres, featuring a one-mile dirt, oval racetrack and a seven furlong turf race course. Thoroughbred racing, the Kentucky Derby, and the Kentucky Oaks have run continuously at Churchill Downs Racetrack since In addition, Churchill Downs Racetrack has hosted the Breeders Cup World Championship eight times. We re Back Habibi! Club Leb - Louisville We will be the guests of the track on the prestigious Millionaires' Row and will enjoy a full day of five-star dining and thoroughbred racing, nine races in total! I, for one, am planning on BETTING on ALL the races, I mean, when do you ever get a chance to actually bet at the most famous racetrack in the world?!?!? Please note: Churchill Downs suggests shirts with collars, sweaters, dresses, pantsuits. Dress jeans and slacks are appropriate, as well as golf shorts, dress shorts, and capris (and of course your new hat please see below). Worn or torn garments, halter tops, athletic wear, frayed or torn denim, and midriff tops are considered inappropriate attire Hat Making It s tradition for the ladies to wear a hat to the Kentucky Derby and to Millionaires Row all season long! Since we will be sitting at the prestigious Millionaires Row for our Day at the Races, a hat is a must! Come join the hat-making seminar on Friday. You can bring your own hat or purchase one at the seminar. Embellishments and hats may be purchased that day. The ladies had a ball at the last Convention in Louisville, and some even wore their fabulous creations to the Grand Banquet! Please make a hat making reservation by June 15th to Dottie Manziel Frank at dottieslac@aol.com. We will vote for best hat. The winning hat will be showcased at the Grand Banquet and the creator will receive a fabulous prize! Hookah Bar Join us at the Hookah Bar at the Galt House in your spare time.
