1 Maine Trail Riders Association, Inc. March Volume H FBEATS Official Newsletter of The M T R A NEXT MEETING IS MARCH 13, 2010 Officers: Missy Bourgoin, President Trudy Bickford, Vice-President Donna LeBlond, Secretary Marsha Polley, Treasurer Board of Directors: Brenda Lary 2010 Dana Lary 2010 Nora MacDonald 2010 Nancy Weeks 2011 Vicky Dixon 2011 Missy Bourgoin 2011 Julie Anderson (ex-efficio) Donna Tripp 2012 Marsha Polley 2012 Cathy Small 2012 Sandy Craig 2012 (ex-efficio) President s Stall Howdy I d love to tell you that it was warm and sunny in Florida, but would be lying if I did. It was sunny, but the temps were not a whole lot warmer then what they were here. The races were great. My favorite driver, Tony Stewart #14, won the Nationwide Race on Saturday. Unfortunately his car on Sunday was not as good as Saturday s car, so he did not do so well. The race itself was very exciting even with over 2 hours of delay due to a "pothole" in the track. I understand that the meeting went fairly well. February meetings in nature are pretty uneventful, but at the same time they are necessary. I've been given a list of meeting dates which were changed so the meetings did not interfere with other events, thank you. I do want to remind all potential ride sponsors that if you want to schedule a ride, you are to contact the trail secretary directly, Cathy can be reached by , USPS, phone, and in person. With so many of us wearing several hats, and to eliminate some of the risk of human error, please do not leave your ride dates with anyone else. Let s not forget that Saturday, February 27 th, we are having our first Scrapbooking Fundraiser. Trudy tells me we have received 20 preregistrations and we are hoping a few more will come in this week, and perhaps have a few more show up at the door on Saturday morning. We will be providing goodie bags for those that pre-registered. We've also received several donated items which we will raffle off during the day.

2 2 March 2010 HOOFBEATS Our Next Meeting is on March 13, 2010 President s Stall (continued) We will be providing lunch. But, I am looking for volunteers to donate a few homemade baked goods for desert and snacks in the morning. If you can bake, please let me know so that I can keep track of how much food we will be getting. Well, I think this wraps it all up for now. I'll see you all back at the March meeting, and don t forget to check the list of scheduled events as I know several rides have been scheduled. Happy Trails! Missy IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS This is the only notice you will receive: If your dues are not paid by April 1 st you will no longer receive the Hoofbeats. If there is any question regarding the possibility of cancellation of any meeting, please call president Missy Bourgoin at home ( ), before leaving to attend. If we have your address, an notification will be sent out. Or, you can check out the Maine Trailer Riders Facebook page. Notice to Members Scrapbook Fundraiser: Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon Falls Junior sponsored fundraiser supper: Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the clubhouse in Litchfield. Please contact Missy if you can help with lunch or Trudy if you have items to donate for raffles or door prizes. Publicity Becky Wallace is our publicity person. If you have any suggestions for Becky or information to pass on for a publicity article please send her an at spazmkitty@yahoo.com Please put MTRA in the subject line. Since I don t scour Uncle Henry s like Dick did, I am asking club members to keep an eye out for a 36 table top propane grill for the clubhouse. The club currently owns the 24 grill and they use my 18 grill. I would like the club to have 1 large grill so I can keep mine and the current club grill in my cook shack. I would purchase the larger grill and exchange it for the one that the club has now. Thanks, Nancy Weeks

All about horses and ponies Horse breeds are divided into three groups: coldblood, warmblood and hotblood. Coldblood horses come from the cooler regions of the world. They have calm natures, and are hard-working and strong. Coldbloods can usually be recognized by the fur, or feather, around their feet. Most horse breeds can be described as warmbloods. German and Dutch competition breeds, as well as many American breeds, are warmbloods. Hotblood horses are from an ancient line, and are very pure breeds. They are light, elegant and built for speed. Their coats are thin and they are often sensitive and excitable.
