3 Judges: 2018 Open and Hunter Judges Friday and Saturday: Marcia Beard (VIC) Susan Gorst (VIC) Friday Hunter Classes Saturday Open Classes Saddle Classes commence at 9.00am each day RAST MEASURING Measuring will be available throughout restricted times at the 2018 Royal Hobart Show Tuesday & Wednesday 7am to 8am All Mainland Exhibitors must be measured All horses entered for the Royal Hobart Show, must have current height certificate issued by EA Tasmania MEASURERS or Show Horse Council of Tasmania measurers. Height certificates must be carried at all times whilst competing. SHOWGROUND ADMISSION The most economical option for exhibitors is often the purchase of an RAST Full membership ($95) which provides discounted class entry fees and admission for the member and two adults or the member, one adult and two children 5 to 15 years of age to the Royal Hobart Show. Vehicle passes will initially admit vehicle only. All passengers plus driver require admission tickets for entry. Equestrian Day Pass: $13.00 (Limit 2) EXHIBITOR S PLEASE NOTE Classes will NOT be held up for competitors entered in multiple rings. The names of exhibitors may be included in catalogues published by the Society and successful exhibitors names released for general publication. 5 COMPETITORS ARE TO COMPLY WITH THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF TASMANIA CONDITIONS OF ENTRY AND GENERAL REGULATIONS IN ADDITION TO THESE SHOW REGULATIONS SADDLE HORSE RULES AND DEFINITIONS ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES The Society reserves the right to accept or reject any entry without assigning any reason. Exhibitors entering their horses do so entirely at their own risk, and it is a condition of entry that no liability of any kind attaches itself to the Society, its Council Officers, Officials or Members in any respect whatsoever, other than the liability for refund of entry fees in the event of abandonment of any competition. COMBINING OF CLASSES Should special circumstances arise, the RAST reserves the right to combine classes, vary conditions and alter classes as it sees fit. The judge will also have the right to transfer entries from one class to another. EA rules apply to current EA members. Show Horse Council (SHC) rules apply to SHC members. Royal Hobart Show is a qualifier for Grand Nationals Winners of each child s mount class is eligible for Grand National Child Mount classes Competitors can only enter Open or Hunter classes not both. SUBSTITUTION OF HORSES Riders are to be aware of the following EA regulation: EA General Regulations Article an athlete may withdraw any or all of his horses from a competition, but may not add a horse that had not previously been entered for that competition without the approval of the Organising Committee or the Ground Jury. MEMBERSHIP Exhibitors entering in saddle classes MUST BE a current financial member of the EA or Show Horse Council. PERFORMANCE Qualifying performances are NOT required for entry in the 2018 Royal Hobart Show, unless specified in the individual class details MEASURING All horses entered for the Royal Hobart Show must have a current height certificate issued by EA Tasmania measurers or Show Horse Council Tasmania measurers. Height certificates must be carried at all times whilst competing. RIDER AGE Rider age for Leading Rein competitors is as on the day of competition. Age of rider for all other classes is as at 1st January in the year of competition. All riders in child s mount classes must be under 17 years of age on day of competition.

6 PROTESTS Protests may only be made by exhibitors with exhibits in the class to which the protest relates. Exhibitors may enter a protest by lodging it in writing at the RAST site office within 1 HOUR of the completion of the event to which the protest relates. Protests must be accompanied by a deposit of $50. The RAST Rules and Protest Committee will consider the protest as soon as practicable and will advise the exhibitor of its decision. If a protest is upheld, the deposit will be returned to the exhibitor. The decision of this committee is final. JUDGE'S AUTHORITY Judges may send off a horse which, in their opinion, is unfit to be entered in the class being judged. Exhibitors are not to approach any judge without prior approval from that judge s steward, the Chief Steward or the Ringmaster, except as required by the judge during the conduct of a class. RIDING CLASSES All riders & horses must be nominated at the time of entry. ACCEPTABLE ATTIRE Riders must be suitably attired at all times while on the arena. Current standard approved helmets/hats must be worn at all times whilst mounted, unless specifically exempted for a class in the show schedule. Long boots are not to be worn by riders under the age of 17. SADDLERY All saddlery and gear must be suitable, safe and properly fitted. Bearing reins, balance reins, draw reins, running reins or similar devices are not permitted at any time on the showgrounds. Side reins are only permitted while lunging. EXHIBIT NUMBER Exhibit numbers will be posted to exhibitors on acceptance of entries. Every exhibit whilst in the ring or within a marshalling area must display its exhibit number. Ridden exhibits are to display their exhibit number either in a correctly fitted breast plate on the exhibit or conspicuously on the rider s left arm. SWABBING Random swabbing may be undertaken during the show, conducted in accordance with RAST requirements. It is a condition of entry you comply with any swabbing request. HORSE CONTROL Any horse which in the opinion of the Chief Steward is not under adequate control will be sent off the arena. Royal Hobart Show ~ Equestrian

7 LEADING REIN Stallions are ineligible for leading rein. The rider is to be from 5 to under 8 years of age. The mount is to be 12hh or under. Riders in Leading Rein classes are ineligible to compete in any other type of ridden class. Mounts are eligible to compete in other classes. A snaffle bridle is to be used. The leading rein is to be fixed to the noseband. Reins are to go directly to the rider s hands. No string or any other aids fastened to the saddle to keep the pony s head in position are permitted. No spurs or whips. The handler may carry a cane. Riders should be able to rise to the trot. Clothing and equipment is to be similar to a Turnout but judged as a Smartest on Parade. Either the handler or the rider is to be a current member of EA or Show Horse Council. FIRST RIDDEN No spurs or whips permitted. NOVICE Novices are exhibits or competitors, as is appropriate for the relevant class, who have not won a first place award at a Royal Show or a Royal National Show. OWNER RIDER AMATUER CLASSES Rider is to be the bonafide owner of the exhibit. Any rider who derives any form of income from training, coaching, riding is ineligible. The exhibit must be ridden the entire show by the owner rider. RISING STAR Exhibits are to be between the 1 st and 3 rd year of showing. REFUNDS Entry fees will not be refunded other than in exceptional cases and where a veterinary certificate is supplied. A refund, less 25% administration fee, will be at the discretion of the Equestrian Committee. All applications under these conditions must be received at the RAST office by Tuesday of the week following the Royal Hobart Show. This ruling will not apply where entries are not accepted by the RAST. PLACINGS RAST ribbons will be awarded as follows, at the Judge s discretion, for placings in individual classes: 1st - Blue, 2nd - Red, 3rd - White, 4th - Yellow, 5th - Green. All first place winners are eligible for the relevant Champion award within their section, unless otherwise stated in the class listings. The exhibit that is placed second to the selected Champion in its qualifying class is eligible for Reserve Champion. SEPARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS [Small and Large] May be offered in hacks and galloways IF the numbers warrant. Royal Hobart Show ~ Equestrian

8 HORSE AGE The age of horses is to date from 1 August in each year. Every horse foaled before 1 August in any year shall be deemed to be one year old on that date. HORSE CLASSIFICATION Exhibits can be shown in either the Show Hunter OR the Show Horse section. The same exhibit cannot be entered in both sections. PRIZE MONEY Prize money for Hacks Galloways, Large Ponies and Small Ponies in saddle classes is as follows: 1st - $30, 2nd - $15, 3rd - $10. Prize money for Junior Mounted Turnout: 1st - $50, 2nd - $25. Prize money for Show Jumping classes are specified in the class schedule. All other award prize monies are detailed in the Special Awards section. CLEANING OF LOOSEBOXES Exhibitors are to keep each loose-box allocated to them and their horses in a clean and proper condition throughout the duration of their stay at the Show. Loose-boxes are to be cleaned out before 8:00am each day. MANURE All manure is to be picked up from horse area. Failure to do so may result in a fine to the exhibitor. LUNGING Lunging is not allowed on any part of the arena at any time prior or during the Royal Hobart Show. HORSES ON THE ARENA Only those horses competing on the day are permitted on the arena while events are underway. DOGS Dogs are not permitted on the ground AT ANY TIME. Offending persons will be asked to leave the grounds. CRUELTY POLICY No cruelty will be tolerated. RAST Cruelty Policy will be forwarded with confirmation of entries. Royal Hobart Show ~ Equestrian

9 TROPHIES AND SPECIAL AWARDS Please Note: All perpetual trophies are engraved with the winner s details and retained in the offices of the Society. COL. A.V. POPE MEMORIAL TROPHY. A perpetual trophy presented by the late Colonel A.V. Pope of Frankston for the Best Heavyweight Hack which, in the opinion of the Judge, shows thoroughbred qualities. Each exhibit is also judged for manners, paces and performances. The competition is open to mares and geldings and may be ridden by either a lady or gentleman. The Society will also award a special sash to the winning exhibitor. PRITCHARD SPLADING PERPETUAL TROPHY. For the Best Lightweight Hack which, in the opinion of the Judge, shows thoroughbred qualities. Each exhibit is judged for manners, paces and performance. The competition is open to mares and geldings and may be ridden by either a lady or gentleman. The Society will also award a special sash to the winning exhibitor and $25 prize money. Exhibits are to have been the property of the exhibitor for at least three months prior to the event. Proof of ownership is to be submitted with entry. TASRACING OFF THE TRACK SERIES: for Thoroughbred or Standardbred horses which have raced or barrier trialled. Racing name must be supplied upon entering. Paperwork may be checked on the day. Open to Showjumping exhibits. All nominates must be nominated at the time of entering. No nominations will be accepted after close of entries. Sponsored by Tasracing. (No stallions permitted) JUNE CHESTERMAN TROPHY (formerly known as the Earlham Perpetual Trophy). For Champion Senior Rider. To be selected from the Champion Rider 17 years and under 21 years and the Champion Rider 21 years and over. Winner awarded $150 and the Society's Rosette. Presented by Mrs F.R. Chesterman as a memorial to her late husband Mr F.R. Chesterman. SARAH BELTZ MEMORIAL. Awarded to the Champion Intermediate Rider. Sarah. Sponsored by Tania Hay as a memorial to R.M. SAYER AWARD. An award endowed by Mrs R.M. Sayer for the Galloway showing the most outstanding characteristics and qualities of the Arabian Horse. ALINDA PARK LADIES HACK AWARD. Awarded to the winner of the Lady s Hack class. The winner also receives $25 donated by Alinda Park Show Horses. CHARLEMAGNE MEMORIAL TROPHY. Perpetual trophy, donated by the Hawkes family, and the Society s sash awarded to the winner of the Gentleman's Hack class. KAMAURA PERPETUAL TROPHY. Trophy, donated by the Hawkes family, and the Society s Rosette awarded to the Champion Hack in Saddle. WINSPEAR PERPETUAL TROPHY. Trophy, donated by Debbie Johnson, awarded to the Champion Galloway. CHAMPION JUNIOR EQUESTRIAN TURNOUT PERPETUAL TROPHY. Awarded to the overall winner from the Junior Mounted Turnout classes. Donated by Ms A.L. Hooker of Meelin Park, Grove. Contact Number of Participant: The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania advise that participation (including passive participation) in animal handling at an agricultural show contains elements of risk, both obvious and inherent. The handling of animals is a dangerous recreational activity as animals can act in a sudden and unpredictable way, especially when frightened or hurt. 1. By signing this waiver I acknowledge that: 1.1 participation in animal handling is a recreational service for the purposes of section 139A of the Competition and Consumer Act (Cth) 2010, and also a recreational activity for the purposes of Section 19 of the Civil Liability Act (2002) TAS; 1.2 participation in animal handling is a hazardous activity and may result in injury, loss, damage or death to me; 1.3 participation in animal handling requires certain skills and experience. I declare that I have sufficient skills and experience to be able to safely and properly participate in the events; 1.4 animals can act in a sudden and unpredictable ways, especially if frightened or hurt, or if exposed to loud or unfamiliar noises; 1.5 animal showing events will be held in close proximity to rides and large groups of people, and that there may be loud and unfamiliar noises which can frighten animals; 1.6 if the event is held outdoors, there are risks to me as a result of the weather conditions, including either extreme hot or cold weather, rain or wind; 1.7 insects or other animals may cause animals to become frightened and act in an unpredictable way; 1.8 there is inherent in events involving the handling of animals the risk of suffering injury including injuries caused by animals; and 1.9 I use the facilities supplied for the event entirely at my own risk, as I find them and with the prior acceptance of the risk of possible danger to me. 2 If I suffer injury, loss or damage (Loss) while participating in an animal handling event, I will not hold the Suppliers, their employees or agents legally responsible for any Loss I suffer. I will not sue the Suppliers, their employees or agents for any claims, costs, damages or liability. I agree to release the Suppliers and their employees from legal responsibility for the services I have been provided and/or activity I have participated in. 3 I acknowledge and agree that my participation in the event and associated activities is dangerous and may have inherent risks as a result of which personal injury (and sometimes death) may occur. I acknowledge that the event and associated activities carry with them a significant risk of physical harm.
