7 A Message from Fall Show Management Show Manager Cheryl Harlin With pleasant weather during the busy weekend, the 2012 San Antonio Fall Dressage I & II on September 8-9 at the San Antonio Rose Palace was another successful rated show for the Alamo Dressage Association (ADA). That accomplishment occurred with the dozens of committed volunteers dedicated to doing superior work at the competition. We appreciate the indispensable teamwork and outstanding efforts of all our friends, show management, officials, supporting staff, and generous sponsors. Advance and final team at the show facility, the audacious arena crew was led by ADA Recognized Show Chair/Volunteer Coordina tor Carolyn Vandenberg, her daughter Erika Vandenberg who brought her boyfriend Tom, Arlene Gaitan, Rachel Harlin, and Zoe Zeller who boldly assembled/dismantled the two rings, canopy, judges box, and show trailer contents during dusk on the Thursday night prior to and past the conclusion of the show. Also, the stabling crew of Cel Cox and Kim Dunlap diligently posted assignment chart and stall/tack cards. Jan Johnson graciously welcomed and registered the volunteers, distributed lunch tickets and volunteer door prizes. Our head scorer Karen Peacock and her crew of score checkers Penny Philips, Renee Hausman, KC Blaemire, Leslie Johnson, and Linda Pedde skillfully ensured the test results were posted in a timely manner. Carolyn enlisted the valuable help of scribes : Judy Allison, Pam Gouger, Renee Hausman, Kathy Fant, and Debbie Kosierowski. The runners did a superb job supplying the tests from the judge s booth: Avery Philips, Rachel Harlin and her cousins, Zoe Zeller, Sarahbeth Brickman, Connie Burkhardt, and Kirsten Lauter, Susanna Fechner, and Colleen Gaitan. Kathy Lubianski, the ADA Treasurer and ring steward chair, enlisted the following talented individuals for equipment checking, warmup/lunging supervision, emergency response, and rider class check-in: Selma Kovars, Luke Johnson, PJ Hardin, Gaby Perkins, Terrie Hargrove, Arlene Gaitan, Kris Paledes, Ron and Ginny Golenski, Jennifer Brewer, and Marlene Nash. Kathy also competed, averag ed high point award scores, stewarded, and handled show fund transactions with poise. Through research and determination, our ADA Awards Chair Leeann Loughlin Donovan introduced/ oversaw over a dozen new breed and special awards to our competitions. We thank her and the following sponsors for some of those awards: the Alamo Arabian Horse Association for the Arabian and Half-Arabian High Point; Molly Porter Burke for the Quarter Horse High Point; Judy Allison, Molly Porter Burke, Sarah Jane Martin, and Carolyn VandenBerg for the Dressage Foundation Benefit Class (First Level Test 2 for the adult amateur division); 4R Performance Horses for the Junior/Young Rider High Point, and William Askins for the Janet Askins Adult Amateur Memorial. The Ride for the Cure coordinators, Karen Silvers and ADA president Arlene Gaitan who was also the show program editor, did a wonderful job coordinating the dressage team competition, prizes, sponsors, donations, publicity, and team results/award presentations. Our announcer and former ADA president Douglas Christensen provided the distinctive voice of master of ceremony. He also provided MC training to a friend adding colorful commentary and introduction of competitors of ring 1. Carolyn VandenBerg, Hilary Harper, Penny Philips, and Bill Eash of hospitality assisted with the transportation, lodging, and schedule of our officials. Once again, the Col Russell Equestrian Center representatives were willing and geared up for any duty at the show as runners, show office, and floaters: Jessie Orbelo, Jennifer Hill, Bobbi and Charis Castillo, Alana Auber, and Natasha Flinn. We thank the staff of the San Antonio Rose Palace (Don, Mary, Federico and crew), judges Beverly Rogers, Joan Humphrey, and Richard Howard, and technical delegate Marilyn Kulifay, show secretary Mary Mobley, on-site farrier William Thomason (and his family), braider Bree Bell, Leon Valley Volunteer Fire Department medics, equine vets and staff at Kendal County Equine Clinic a nd Retama Equine Hospital, and ADA show committee/board and Junior/Young Riders. Additionally, we recognize our numerous sponsors who supported the show, and vendors for their generous Ride for the Cure dressage team donations: Christine Munoz of Bridle Suite of Texas, Katherine Jacoby of Eventing Shop, and Dover Saddlery. ADA Vic e President Jennifer Delmer splendidly pulled in a few new sponsors and initiated the AQHA recognition paperwork for this fall s show. Robin Gaines of Equine Productions donated a class videography for the silent auction for Ride for the Cure, and photographer Deb Johnson who donated her service at the Cure awards presentation. Furthermore, we re grateful for all the numerous participants and coordinators of the silent auction. Karen Bishop was vital in closing out the prizes. Finally, we re especially grateful to our family and friends for their patience, understanding, and sacrifices while putting on a fun and friendly show. Thank you, all volunteers, for your service and hard work this season. Working with you is a complete joy!
