2 STATEMENT from the Premier 0ate Au.gust...5 J.J.2J6 State Administration Centre, Victoria Square, Adelaide, Embargo South Australia HACKNEY REDEVELOPMENT Tenders have been called for 17 townhouses which will form a major part of the Hackney Redevelopment, the Premier, Mr. Dunstan, announced today. Mr. Dunstan said the townhouses in Richmond and Hatswell Streets Hackney would be mainly two bedroom, two storey townhouses with some three and four ^^ droom three storey townhouses. "The designs for these townhouses are exciting and imaginative", Mr. Dunstan said. "Each townhouse has two living areas, with front and rear private courtyards, Landscaped street side gardens and car parks will add to the new houses. "They will be very attractive additions to the Hackney area, providing excellent new accommodation which will complement the rehabilitation of existing houses in Hackney by the Housing Trust. "Already 15 established older houses have been rehabilitated and these town houses will blend in to ensure Hackney remains an attractive residential area. ^^he Hackney Redevelopment is a very important part of the Government's policy of ensuring that areas close to the inner city of Adelaide stay alive. Hackney will grow in a way that will benefit the local community while adding to the charm of the whole city. "The Government wants to ensure that the Hackney area is maintained with a mixture of groups, but with the emphasis on providing homes for the working people of the area". Mr. Dunstan said the first stage of the Hackney scheme involved about 14 acres from Hackney Road to Twelftree Reserve.
