The reason for us giving you this advice is that if your animal were to lash out and injure someone or damage someone s property, and it is established that your animal was out of your control at that time, you may be held responsible or partly responsible for any injury or damage caused and end up paying all or part of any settlement reached. DISCIPLINE The Irish Shows Association expects and will insist upon appropriate behaviour from all Exhibitors and others participating in any of the activities at our Member Shows and will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour. Inappropriate behaviour shall include but not be limited to the following: Profanity, coarse or vulgar language or gestures towards judges or other Show officials. 24 Class 76 Judges: RDS BREEDERS CHAMPIONSHIP 2018 QUALIFIER Name will be displayed on the website as soon as possible At approx. 2.30pm Entry Fee: Class: Open to mares likely to produce performance horses, with an athletic foal at foot. Mares should be registered with an approved studbook or with Weatherby s General Studbook or Weatherby s Non-Thoroughbred Register and have recorded breeding. Foal must be by a registered stallion. Aim: To give recognition to breeders who breed from suitable mares to produce top quality foals with performance potential. To encourage the production of quality young stock which might, in time and with suitable nurture, achieve success in various equestrian disciplines. This class aims to serve as an important benchmark for breeders (and the industry at large) to determine the progress being made in the national herd. The Breeders Championship is a seminal class for RDS and for the industry in showcasing the quality of equine talent being produced nationally for future domestic and export markets. Rules: 1. Passports of all competing mares must be brought to the qualifying show for scrutiny by the judges / stewards. If valid passports are not available for inspection at the time of judging, the mare and foal will not be eligible to compete. 2. All mares and foal combinations at both qualifying show and final will be shown in-hand using the triangle format (25m x 40m x 25m). (See guidelines below). 3. Mares and foals competing at the qualifiers and final should be familiar with the triangle format. Mares and foals will have one opportunity to show themselves on the triangle, it is in the interest of the exhibitor to ensure that they are both shown correctly. Exhibitors should ensure that foals in particular are handled and prepared well in advance to perform walk and trot in a balanced and calm manner around the triangle. Exhibits in this class will be viewed on the triangle in the order in which they appear in the official DHS Catalogue. 4. Judging will be based on adjudicating the mare as a progenitor of athletic type foals with obvious performance potential. 5. The top three mare and foal combinations at this qualifier will be eligible to enter and compete at the Dublin Horse Show. Entry Fee: 25 Prizes: 1 st 5,000; 2 nd 3,000; 3 rd 2,000; 4 th 1,500; 5 th 1,000, 6 th 750, 7 th 600; 8 th 500. The additional 10 competitors will receive 400 for competing at the final. A special prize of 200 will be awarded for the best show. The winning exhibitors will be identified by the judges based on the presentation of their mare and foal on the triangle. The Lyn Aldridge Perpetual Challenge Trophy presented to the winner of the Breeders Championship. Champion and Reserve Champion are required to participate in the Parade of Champions on Sunday 12 th August Final: RDS Dublin Horse Show, 8 th 12 th August Showing on the Triangle (Breeders Championship) To encourage uniformity, consistency and time efficiency at both the qualifiers and the final, it is desirable that the presentation of animals at the triangle is properly rehearsed. The following is a guideline for competitors and organisers alike: Both mare and foal will be presented before the judges at A where they will be assessed for conformation and movement. Both mare and foal should stand square with all four limbs bearing weight. The foal should be assessed on the triangle. The mare and foal will be asked to walk and trot around the triangle (25m x 40m x 25m) in a clockwise direction, one round in walk and one round in trot. An outer triangle, 3.5m from the inner is advised to help exhibitors keep both mare and foal on track. 24

25 The triangle format allows the judges, who will be positioned at A, maximum advantage to see walk and trot from behind, side profile and in front - allowing them to easily assess freedom of shoulder, use of back, engagement of the hock, tracking up and straightness in both paces. Care should be taken that the foal is kept alongside the mare during walk and trot phase going away from and coming back to the judges so that both mare and foal are clearly visible. When the mare and foal are being assessed for movement on the long side of the triangle, the foal should be positioned behind the mare. The judging format will be in operation for the 2017 Breeders Championship at the RDS and its qualifiers. Prospective owners/exhibitors are advised to familiarise themselves and their horse with this layout to maximise the art of presentation. Exhibitors should ensure that the foals in particular are well handled and prepared well in advance to perform walk and trot in a balanced and calm manner around the triangle. 32 CATTLE SECTION Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS CATTLE Keepers wishing to show cattle in 2018 must obtain a Certificate of Compliance prior to the movement of the animal to the Show. This ensures that the animal(s) in question has the necessary TB, BR and BVD tests recorded on the Department s database and that the keeper presenting the animal is not restricted by the Department. Certificates of Compliance can be obtained online from the Animal Identification and Movement (AIM) system through the facility or from the Cattle Movement Notification Agency. When applying for a Certificate of Compliance, keepers should not specify a destination herd. On the day of the Show, the Certificate of Compliance should be presented to the Show Secretary along with the bovine passport for the animal. The keeper and the Show Secretary will then sign the Movement Notification section of the Certificate, which will then be sent to the local DVO for recording onto the AIM system. Please note that only cattle for which a valid Certificate of Compliance is provided to the Show Secretary will be allowed to be shown on the day of the Show. Irish Shows Association Notice After a number of submissions from affiliated Shows on the judging of calves and the need to have them judged by weight rather than by age at Shows: The Irish Shows Association Cattle Sub-Committee has put forward the following recommendation on use of live weight for calf classes, e.g. (Calves under 12 months not to exceed 460kg), (Autumn born calves and calves under 6 months it recommends that the weight should not exceed 320kg.) Another suggestion is to use no more than 1.7kg live weight gain per day from the birth date to the show date. This proposal would be suitable for interbreed pedigree calf Championships. Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS CATTLE Animal Health Status T.B. All animals must come from herds, which are Officially TB free (OTF) (i.e. not restricted) and the herd and relevant animals must have had a clear test within the previous twelve months this test must be recorded on the Department s Animal Health Computer System (AHCS). No pre-movement test is required for T.B. However, it is recommended by the Department that a 30-day pre-movement test for TB should apply to all Shows. Identification All cattle must bear two plastic tags with the same number (one in each ear) as issued under the Department s identification system. Each animal must be accompanied by it s passports. AIM Notification The movement of cattle to and from an Agricultural Show within the State must be recorded on AIM. Keepers who plan to move animals to a Show must obtain a Certificate of Compliance prior to the movement of animals. No destination should be nominated when the keeper is applying for a Certificate. Premises The Show premises at which the cattle will reside for the duration of their stay must either be an assembly centre approved for exports or of such a standard as being capable of being approved for such a purpose temporarily. A fundamental requirement for such premises is that they have surfaces that are capable of being cleaned and disinfected and have adequate cleaning and disinfection facilities. Adequate segregation facilities may be required also. 32
