1 THE FELL PONY SOCIETY Registered Charity No BREED SHOW 2018 SCHEDULE Sunday 5 August 2018 at 8.30 am prompt At Dalemain, Ullswater, Penrith, Cumbria CA11 0HB By kind invitation of the McCosh Family REGULATIONS Owners must be a current FPS member to exhibit at this show, with the exception of Class 39, Horse of the Year Show Qualifier 1 The Fell Pony Society accepts no liability for any loss of property or any accident or damage to any animal, vehicle, spectator or exhibitor, and all entries are accepted subject to this condition. Exhibitors are advised that all ponies should be insured for public liability. This show is held under the Rules found in the FPS Handbook for Showing and Competing, with the exception of Class 38 which is under the rules of the Horse of the Year Show. Please send Entry Forms to the Fell Pony Society Office, Bank House, Boroughgate, Appleby, Cumbria CA16 6XF Tel: Late entries to 14 July, double fee. Entries received after 14 July will be returned. 2 Ponies must not exceed 14 hh (142.2 cm) (1/2 inch (1.26 cm) will be allowed for shoes). All ponies of 4 years old and over must pass the measuring standard unless the exhibitor has an annual or life JMB Certificate. As paper certificates are no longer issued by the JMB, exhibitors must provide either a print off from the JMB online database or a screen shot of the appropriate entry. Failure to provide either will require the pony to be measured. Measuring starts at 7.30 am prompt ponies for Class 38 being measured first. Please note that all ponies must be measured by 9.00 am. The Show Committee has the right to refuse entry to any pony which has been ruled over-height at any previous Breed Show. Owners of ponies measured overheight on the day of the Show may appeal on payment of 20, which will be forfeited if the first measuring is found correct. When presenting their ponies to be measured, competitors must know their numbers from the catalogue. 3 Only paid up current members of the Fell Pony Society are eligible to enter ponies at the Breed Show. (Excluding the Horse of The Year Show Qualifier) ENTRANCE TICKET This doubles as your receipt for entries. Please send SAE for your Entrance Ticket. No substitution of entries will be allowed. Ponies must be the bona fide property of the person, whose name appears on the passport, as owner, at the closing date for entries. 5 Please write the names of each pony to be exhibited in the group classes on the back of the entry form. Groups present on Show Day should declare to the Show Secretary on the field. Entry Fee: 2.00 per pony. (or 3.00 per pony if entered on the day) Please note only 3 ponies may be entered. Ponies must be named and those named ponies must be the ones shown. 6 The committee reserve the right to alter Classes if necessary. Whilst every effort is made to avoid classes clashing, sometimes this seems to be inevitable on show day. The committee have added a proposed Timetable as a guide which you will find in this schedule. Exhibitors are advised to consult

2 this when planning their entries. The organisers intend to follow this Timetable as closely as possible. Classes will not be held up for anyone. Please remember that each Class takes an average of 40 minutes to run. Competitors will make the smooth running of the show easier if they are selective in the Classes that they enter. 7 Exhibitors are asked not to enter classes judged by their pony s breeder. A judge may not judge a pony which holds their prefix or which has been bred by his/her immediate family. If the judge finds that, inadvertently, such a situation should arise, he/she should ask the steward to call the referee judge into the ring to place the pony in question. 8 All Cups and Trophies are perpetual and must be returned on or before the day of the Show. All winners must sign a receipt on claiming their trophy. This is for insurance purposes and confirms the winner s responsibility both for the safety of the cup during the year that it is in his/her care, and for any repairs needed due to damage incurred during that period. For insurance purposes, all perpetual trophies are to remain in the UK. 9 Ponies need not be vaccinated against Equine Flu, but any pony showing signs of coughing or any virus complaint, will be asked to leave the Show Field. 10 A correctly secured BSI standard skull cap/riding hat following current safety standards must be worn at all times that riders are mounted and within the Show Field and must be worn by juniors 14 years and under showing In Hand. Please note: In all Riding Classes correct riding attire should be worn no spurs allowed and show canes must not exceed 30 inches. 11 Any objection or complaint must be made in writing in accordance with the Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure. 12 The class is closed and ponies will not be allowed into the ring: In Hand when the last pony has done its individual trot Ridden & Driving when the class goes into trot 13 Hair extensions, eye make up and hair dyeing are not allowed for ponies, random checks may be carried out throughout the day. 14 Stallion Discs are compulsory and required for all licenced stallions (in hand and ridden). All stallions 3 years old and over must be licensed according to the Society s Regulations. 15 Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. No entry to the river at all (people, ponies or dogs). 16 Aggressive behaviour and foul language to any competitor, volunteer or employee of the Society will not be tolerated. Exhibitors contact details, name, address & telephone numbers will be printed in the catalogue unless otherwise requested. You will be asked to sign a declaration on the entry form to agree to your contact details being published in the catalogue for this show and that the results of the show will be displayed in the public domain by the FPS and may be forwarded onto 3 rd parties including the press. ** If anyone can give some time to help either setting up the field for the show, taking it down afterwards or during the day of the show, it would be much appreciated. Contact the Show Secretary or the Office ** Rings 1 and 2 (In-Hand) CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES AND TROPHIES The 1 st and 2 nd prize-winners of Classes 1-7 and 9-15 will come forward to be judged by both the judges of Rings 1 and 2 for the following Championships. The Lakeland Cup: presented by Miss B Walker, awarded to the best pony of 2 years old and under from Classes 4-6 and The Shawfell Silhouette Memorial Cup: presented by Mr and Mrs Gooderham and to be awarded to the best foal. Fell Pony Society Challenge Cup: presented by the late Lady Yule. To be awarded to the best Filly or Gelding of 3 years old. First and Second prize winners eligible. The Farleton Trophy: presented by Miss Claire Simpson and awarded to the Champion Gelding of Classes 9 and 10. Stennerskeugh Joe Trophy: presented by Mrs Juliet Coates to the Reserve Male Champion The Alan Shuttleworth Memorial Trophy: presented by Eva Shuttleworth and friends, and awarded to the Champion Mare in Classes 1-3 and Class 11. Rings 3 and 4 (Ridden) The Greenfield Trophy: presented by John Slater in memory of his wife, Beth Slater, and awarded to the winner of the Novice Ridden, Classes 25 & 26.

3 The Littletree Trophy: presented by Mr and Mrs N Woolley and awarded to the best Junior in the Ridden Classes 27 and 28. The Carrock Pollyanna Trophy: presented by Mrs G M Cockbain and awarded to the winner of the Open Ridden Classes 19 and 20 The Toby Tankard: presented by Mr and the late Mrs Dobie and awarded to the overall Ridden Champion of Rings 3 and 4. There will then be 9 ponies forward to be judged for the Supreme Championship. These ponies will be judged by the two judges from Rings 1 and 2 and the Open Ridden judge from Ring 3. The ridden ponies may be stripped. The Tufton Silver Challenge Trophy: awarded to the Champion Pony in Classes 1 7, 9 15 and 19 20, The Sylvia Mary McCosh Memorial Rose Bowl: presented by the McCosh family, and awarded to the Breeder of the Champion Pony. A prize of 10, presentable on the day of the show will also be awarded. The Jim Bell Memorial Trophy: presented by the late Mrs Frances Bell and awarded to the Reserve Supreme Champion. The Heltondale Lucy X Cup: presented by Herr and Frau Müller, and awarded to the best filly of three years old to have been bred by a registered native heath breeder. Present owner need not be a native heath breeder. The Packway Bellman Trophy: presented by the late Miss P Crossland and awarded to the pony gaining the most points in Riding, Driving, Dressage and WHP Classes. The Briar Trophy and special rosette: presented by Mrs E Marshall and awarded to the Best Turned Out Pony and Rider. The Judge will be looking for the rider who is turned out neatly, correctly, and safely, and whose pony has well-fitting, safe, and well cared for tack. SPONSORSHIP If you are interested in sponsoring this show please contact the Show Secretary or the FPS Office QUALIFIERS Two Silver Medal Rosettes are offered by the NPS for the Champion ponies in the In Hand and Ridden Sections, judged under the Rules of the NPS. At Breed Shows Silver Medals may be won by non-members. The owner of the qualified pony must become an Adult Qualifying or Life member to enter the final. If the Champion pony has previously qualified, it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in August NPS/KILMANNAN STUD M & M In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the Champion In Hand pony from Classes 1-15, excluding Classes 4, 8 & 12. NPS/THE MINNS FAMILY M & M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the Champion Ridden Pony from Classes and Classes NPS Qualifying Rounds, Breed Show Rules (Affiliation No. S5.028): Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitors are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members and at Breed Shows ponies can qualify for finals even if their owners are not members. Owners of qualified ponies must become adult Qualifying or Life members to enter the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern, August The highest placed pony, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies have already qualified NCPA Qualifiers This show is a qualifier for the NCPA Pony of the Year Show in September 2018, NCPA Affiliation Number 116/18. First and Second Prizewinners in Classes 1 7, 9 15, 19 20, and will qualify. NCPA Star Rosettes will be awarded in Classes 10 and 42. Exhibitors must enter the ring wearing their NCPA badge and present their current year s NCPA Membership card.

4 Equifest - This show is affiliated to Equifest, taking place at the East of England Showground August The two highest placed exhibits not already qualified in each affiliated class (excluding class 39) will qualify. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to obtain a qualification card prior to competing in an Equifest qualifier. Qualification cards can be sent out free of charge to exhibitors upon request, they will not be available on the day of the show. TSR Showing Finals This show is a qualifier for the TSR Showing Finals. Qualify and enter ANY of the Finals Central, East Anglia, North West, North East, South East, South, Wales & South West and Scottish. You do not have to be a TSR member to qualify or enter a final. The Rider/Handler qualifies and can enter any horse/pony in any number of Finals! TSR Riders Finals 1 st & 2 nd riders qualify and will receive a qualification card in the ring. TSR In Hand Finals The two highest placed Handlers with a TSR In Hand Card will qualify in any In Hand Class. Handlers MUST have their cards signed in the ring by the judge/steward, cards are available FREE from the TSR website. Full details at TSR Medal Awards TSR members can collect qualification cards & signatures and redeem for a TSR Medal see TSR website for details. The Fell Pony Society Breeders Award All In Hand exhibits at the FPS Stallion & Colt Show, the FPS Breed Show and FPS Southern Show, will automatically be entered for the above award, presented in memory of Chris Thompson and donated by the Thompson family. The award will be calculated on a points basis and presented at the AGM. The points are calculated as follows: 1 st 6 points, 2 nd 5 points, 3 rd 4 points, 4 th 3 points, 5 th 2 points and 6 th 1 point. 10 points for a Champion, 8 points for a Reserve and 8 points for a Best Of. If you do not wish to be included in the award then please advise the FPS office by 30 September. The two highest placed ponies, not already qualified, will qualify for the relevant Equifest Championship to be held at The East of England Showground in August NPS/HIGHBROOK STUD M&M In Hand National Championship The highest placed pony within the first three that has not previously qualified in classes 1-3 and 5-7, will qualify for the NPS Summer Championship 2019 Class 1 MARE 4 7 years old (Mares with foal at foot not eligible). Perpetual Rose Bowl given by Mr Vaughan.

5 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4 MARE 8 years old and upward (Mares with foal at foot not eligible). Dene Renown Salver given by the late Mrs Newall. MARE 4 years old and upward with own filly foal at foot The Hasell Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup. The McDonough Shield given by Mr E McDonough for the oldest mare with own foal at foot in Classes 3 & 11. A Fell Pony Breeders Association offer a Gold Shield Rosette to the highest placed FPBA member. The winning pony not to have won this award in the current year. The Rosettes will be awarded at a a FPBA meeting later in the year. FILLY FOAL No foal under one month to be shown. All foals to be led. Mr Hirst s Cup. RING 2 GELDINGS AND COLTS Judge: Miss D Chadwick (Hedgethorpe Ponies) Starting 8.45 am prompt SPILLERS / EQUIFEST MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND IN HAND The first and second prize winners of Classes 9-15 will be eligible for this qualifier. The two highest placed ponies, not already qualified, will qualify for the relevant Equifest Championship to be held at The East of England Showground in August NPS/HIGHBROOK STUD M&M In Hand National Championship The highest placed pony within the first three that has not previously qualified in classes 9-11 and 13-16, will qualify for the NPS Summer Championship 2019 Class 5 YEARLING FILLY The Romer Perpetual Cup given by Southern Members. Class 9 GELDING 4 7 years old Perpetual Challenge Cup given by the National Pony Society. Class 6 Class 7 Class 8 FILLY 2 years old The Bewcastle Cup given by Miss M G Longsdon. FILLY 3 years old The Tabelin Trophy given by Mr A Tabelin. Judging for the Heltondale Lucy Cup will take place at the end of this class. For those ponies eligible, refer to the section on Championship Trophies. GROUP CLASS MARE PROGENY best group of three Registered Ponies out of same Mare. Pre entries must include pony names on the entry form. Entry Fee 2.00 per pony (Or 3.00 per pony if entered on the day) Class 10 Class 11 GELDING 8 years old and upward Tarnbeck Trophy given by the Williamson family. Special Rosette for the winner given by the Williamson family. MARE 4 years old and upward with own colt foal at foot Tarnbeck Trophy given by the Williamson family. The McDonough Shield given by Mr E McDonough for the oldest mare with own foal at foot in Classes 3 & 11. Special Rosette for the winner given by the Williamson family. A Fell Pony Breeders Association offer a Gold Shield Rosette to the highest placed FPBA member. The winning pony not to have won this award in the current year. The Rosettes will be awarded at a FPBA meeting later in the year. Premiums of 100, 50 and 25 to be given to the dams of the first three placed progeny groups. (The Premium to be divided 50% to the breeder and 50% to the owner, UK residents only.) Groups may be entered on the day. The Harry Wales Trophy. Class 12 Class 13 COLT FOAL No foal under one month to be shown. All foals to be led. Cup given by Mr Wood. YEARLING COLT OR GELDING Townend Trophy given by the late Mr E Wilson.

Briar Trophy presented by Mrs E Marshall RING 3 RIDDEN Judge: Miss J Charlton (Linnel Ponies) NPS/RINGSIDE STUD Open Ridden M&M National Championship The highest placed pony within the first three that has not previously qualified in classes 19-20, will qualify for the NPS Summer Championships 2019 RIDING CLASSES Starting after Classes 2 and 10 are completed. In all Riding Classes marks are awarded as follows: 50% for manners, ride and presentation in the Ring; 50% for conformation and breed characteristics. Mares suckling foals are not eligible for riding classes. Judges may ride the ponies in any of the classes if they so wish. EQUIFEST OPEN RIDDEN MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND The first and second prize winners of Classes will be eligible for this qualifier. The two highest placed ponies, not already qualified, will qualify for the relevant Equifest Championship to be held at The East of England Showground in August JOHN PATON / JUNIOR RIDDEN MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND The first and second prize winners of Classes 27 and 28 will be eligible for this qualifier. The two highest placed ponies, not already qualified, will qualify for Class 19 Class 20 RIDING CLASS FOR STALLIONS OR GELDINGS 4 years old and upwards Ponies entered in Class 19 cannot be entered in Class 25. Packway Duke Cup given by the late Dr B Watters. RIDING CLASS FOR MARES 4 years old and upwards Ponies entered in Class 20 cannot be entered in Class 26. Columbine Cup given by Mrs M E Jenner. First and second prize winners of Classes 19 and 20 come forward to be judged for the Carrock Pollyanna Trophy. Class 21 TRADITIONAL RIDDEN - WALK & TROT ONLY Mare, gelding or stallion 4 years old or over, rider any age. Class shall be split if sufficient entries, into a) mares and b) geldings and stallion

7 Class 22 Class 23 NURSERY NOVICE Mare, gelding or stallion 4 years old or over, not to have been shown under saddle prior to 1 January 2018 Walk and trot only. Riders may canter in their individual show if they wish. PAIRS RIDDEN At approx pm (following driving) Mare, gelding or stallion 4 years old or over, rider any age. Entries for this class may be taken on the day. Entry fee 6.00 per pair, or 8.00 on the day, per pair This class can be entered on the day, provided that the ponies are already pre-entered at the show, entries will not be accepted otherwise RING 4 RIDDEN Judge: Mrs R Williams (Ferrymount Ponies) Class 24 RIDDEN VETERAN CLASS Mare or Gelding to be 15 years or over. Heltondale Spider Tankard given by Mrs Neil. FPS Veteran Gelding Shield given by Mr E McDonough to be awarded to the oldest gelding. Roddlesworth Salver given by the Woodruff family for the oldest mare First and second prize winners of Classes 25 and 26 come forward to be judged for the Greenfield Trophy. NPS/RYEHOUSE NATIVE SHOW TEAM JUNIOR Ridden M&M National Championship The highest placed pony within the first three that has not previously qualified in classes 27-28, will qualify for the NPS Summer Championships 2019 Class 27 Class 28 RIDING CLASS FOR MARES OR GELDINGS 4 years old and upwards, ridden by a boy or girl to be 14 years or under on the day of the show. Ponies are not to be shown on a lead rein. The Waverhead Cup given by the late Mrs F Bell. RIDING CLASS FOR MARES OR GELDINGS 4 years old and upwards, ridden by a boy or girl not to have attained their 18 th birthday before 1 st January in the current year. Tabelin Challenge trophy given by Mr A Tabelin. First and second prize winners of Classes 27 and 28 come forward to be judged for the Littletree Trophy. DRIVING CLASSES Class 25 Class 26 RIDING CLASS FOR NOVICE STALLIONS OR GELDINGS 4 years and upwards Open to stallions or geldings which have not won a 1 st Prize at any show affiliated to the FPS, NPS, BSPS or Ponies (UK) prior to 1 January Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only, if not adhered to will be asked to leave the ring. The Calgarth Brown Jack Trophy given by Miss A Varley. RIDING CLASS FOR NOVICE MARES 4 years and upwards Open to mares which have not won a 1 st Prize at any show affiliated to the FPS, NPS, BSPS or Ponies (UK) prior to 1 January Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only, if not adhered to will be asked to leave the ring. The Gem Trophy given by Mrs Croal. Class 29 Judge: Mrs C H Robinson (Kerbeck Ponies) To be judged in Ring 4 at approx pm STALLION, MARE OR GELDING 4 years old and upwards and put to any type of vehicle (i.e. Private, Trade or Exercise/Competition). Mares suckling foals are not eligible. Marks are awarded as follows: 50% for manners, cleanliness, suitability of pony to vehicle and correct harnessing; 50% for conformation and breed characteristics. Emphasis will be put on a well-trained pony going correctly, the condition of the vehicle, the ability and correct dress of the Whip and the overall pleasing appearance of the turnout. The class will be divided into two sections: show vehicles and trade or exercise vehicles. Rosettes and prize money for both sections. Perpetual Silver Challenge Trophy given by the Fell Pony Society. The Lownthwaite Lucy Trophy given by Mr E McDonough for the best pony driven to an exercise vehicle.

8 Class 30 Class 31A Class 31B Class 31C Class 32 CONE DRIVING To be judged after the Driving Class in an area outside the main rings. The Kerbeck Cup given by the late Mrs M Dodd. DRESSAGE Judge: Wendy Murray To commence at 10.00am and run until 2.00pm BE90 Test 95 (Senior) BE90 Test 95 (Junior) The Susan McKinlay Picture given by the late Mr D I McKinlay for the overall winner. The Windybank Trophy given by Mrs E Marshall for the best Senior. The John Richardson Memorial Shield given by Mr C and Mrs J Richardson for the best Junior. Introductory Test Pony Club D Level 1 (walk and trot only) for truly novice ponies and/or riders with little or no experience of dressage who would like to have a go. Please enter this class in the spirit that it is intended. Rosettes and prize money for all sections. A copy of their test will be sent to competitors with their entrance tickets. The test may be called. To be ridden in a snaffle bridle. Bits other than snaffles will be permitted but will incur 10 penalty points on the test. FOOT CLASSES Judge: Mr J G Newhouse. Ring 2 approx.1.00 pm PONY WITH THE BEST SET OF FEET (SHOD) 3 years old and upwards Perpetual Challenge Cup given by Mr A J Heighton. Cup given by Mr R Dalton; also a prize of 20 to the Farrier who shod the winner. Please write the name and address of the Farrier on your Entry Form. Class 33 PONY WITH THE BEST SET OF FEET (UNSHOD) The Judith Renwick Memorial Cup given by the Dalton Family. 5 prize money to be given to the winner. Class 34 Judge: Mrs B Hodgson (Inglegarth Ponies) At approx pm (following driving) LEAD REIN Mare or gelding of 4 years old or over to be ridden by a child 9 years old or under and to be led by an adult. Class 35 FIRST RIDDEN Mare or gelding of 4 years old or over to be ridden by a child 14 years old or under. Walk and trot only. Riders may canter in their individual show if they wish. The Hardendale First Ridden Trophy presented by Mr & Mrs G H B Mallinson. Riders in Classes 34 and 35 are not eligible for any other Ridden Classes except Fancy Dress, Introductory Dressage and Beginners WHP. Riders and Owners must be members of their respective Breed Society, NPS, Ponies (UK), The Showing Register or BSPS. Ponies must not exceed the height limit as stipulated by the Fell Pony Society. Riders of stallions must have attained their 14th birthday before 1 st January in the current year. This class will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out by the Horse of the Year Show rulebook, a copy of which can be downloaded from This is a Horse of the Year Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy details please visit Marks will awarded in the following way: Show/Freedom of Action 50 Maximum Breed Type/Conformation 50 Maximum In the case of equality, the pony with the highest show, freedom of action mark will be deemed the winner. If there is still equality at this point, then the judges decision will be final. This class is a qualifying class for Horse of the Year Show, N.E.C., Birmingham, 3rd 7 th October Qualification will not pass below 3 rd Place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show Office Please note: Ponies that qualify for this Championship at Horse of the Year Show 2018 must hold a valid JMB Full Height or Annual Certificate, the number of which must be sent to Grandstand Media Ltd at the time of entry to the Horse of the Year Show. JMB certificates are not required to enter this qualifier.

10 WORKING HUNTER PONY and CLEAR ROUND JUMPING CLASSES NOTES These classes can be entered on the day, provided that the pony is already preentered at the show, entries will not be accepted otherwise (Clear Round and WHP). CLEAR ROUND JUMPING am Entry fee 3.00 Class 44 Turn up as and when and have a go at a course of jumps, no ridden show involved. All clear rounds will receive a rosette. Open to all, jumps will be set at 35-50cm but the course may be altered to suit individual riders/ponies if enough helpers available to alter jumps.
