2 SALE INFORMATION About Palgrove: The Palgrove stud is based in Warwick QLD, with the majority of our female herd running on our Ben Lomond Property in NSW. Bull depots are also located at Emerald and Miles. For over forty years, we have adapted our Charolais genetics through a commitment to research, education, new technologies and a common sense cattleman s eye to suit clients environmental and management conditions. Palgrove now has the largest registered Charolais herd in Australia. Our bulls are grown out on pasture with moderate sale preparation. We believe a bull s career begins on sale day, so our sale bulls are presented to you ready to work. Inspection: Bulls can be inspected at any time prior to sale at Palgrove by arrangement with the agents or vendor. The bulls will be paddocked at Scone saleyards from Tuesday 2nd June when they ll be available for inspection. Breeding Soundness: All bulls offered for sale will have passed a semen test by Veterinarian, Ced Wise. In addition the Vet will examine all bulls for structural and breeding soundness to Australian Veterinary Standards. Purchasers will be provided with a Soundness Evaluation Certificate. Supplementary Sheet: The bulls have scan data supplied by certified scanning technician, David Reid for Eye Muscle Area, Rump & Rib Fat, Marbling (IMF%) and will also have Scale Weight and Scrotal Size measurements. Guarantee: All bulls sold by Palgrove are guaranteed breeders. Any claim against the breeding ability of an animal purchase should be made in writing and accompanied by a Veterinary certificate within six months of the date of sale. In the event of an animal failing to breed, it may either be replaced with an animal of comparable value or credit to the full purchase price will be given at any of Palgrove s auction sales or by private treaty. Health: Palgrove is an accredited TB and Brucellosis free herd and all Palgrove properties are recognised as Johnes Disease Protected so stock are free to move anywhere in Australia (except W.A.) Palgrove is a Pesti free herd. All sale bulls have vaccinated twice with 7-in- 1 and 3 Day Sickness vaccine. Delivery: We take personal interest in the efficient delivery of all bulls after sate. The sale agents oversee all deliveries of sale bulls. Palgrove will assist in the delivery of bulls where possible in the Hunter Valley or on route to the Qld border via either Tamworth or Gloucester. 3 HERD SIRES The sires below represent a selection of the genetics that have produced the bulls for this year s Scone Sale. We aim for consistency in our breeding programme, but we recognise that our genetics must be adaptable and flexible enough to move with changing market specifications. The herd sires we use provide this flexibility and ensure that the bulls we offer for sale will fit a number of target markets yet offer year in year out consistency in the quality of progeny they produce in your commercial beef business. Palgrove Formula (P): The first group of sons by this champion sire are selling here at Scone. A low birth weight sire that bends the curve to also be a breed Trait Leader for Weaning Wt. His progeny are long bodied; thick and fast growing. Real profit making commercial cattle. Palgrove Evolution (P): The first progeny by this exciting NZ sire tells us he ll have real impact on our herd and the Charolais breed. His first sons to sell in Australia here at Scone. His progeny have the carcase, breed character and grunt that we look for in our polled cattle. Palgrove Calibre (P): Another outstanding group of sons in this year s sale. An efficient industry bull whose progeny suit the local trade market or can be fed through to export weight off grass. Exceptional length and a perfect carcase will add weight to his progeny. Eatons Royal Dynasty (P): A new outcross bloodline from the US. Breed Trait Leader for low birth weight and we ve used him solely over yearling heifers. The ever-consistent sire, Calibre has produced a cracker of a young bull here. Judo carries a massive carcase to put plenty of shape and fat cover into his progeny. You can present those sale topping weaners every year by using a bull like Judo. 34 Choice of Breed Options Although Palgrove is better known for its Charolais cattle, we have been breeding Angus and Brangus purebred bulls for over 15 years. In response to requests from northern and western districts clients who wanted bulls that fitted somewhere in between these two breeds, we pioneered the development of the Ultrablack in We designed our Ultrablacks using a base of US Brangus sires (that carry high marbling and excellent carcase traits) and quality Angus dams sourced from a number of leading Australian studs. We ve continued to tweak the best genetic combinations over the last six years and the result is that we now produce high Angus content black bulls that can survive in tougher environments. Our Ultrablack bulls resemble a tropical Angus with a sleek coat, pliable hide and the constitution that comes from their hint of Bos Indicus. They have the meat quality of Angus in a heat tolerant package. The versatile Palgrove Ultrablack works best as a second or third breed in a crossbreeding program over Bos Indicus or British breed commercial females. Many of our clients are now using our Ultrablacks in a three way breeding program to produce Angus replacement females in conjunction with their Charolais bulls as terminal sires. They are providing a real shot of hybrid vigour into their replacements without losing the Angus traits. It would seem that our Ultrablacks are equally at home in northern or southern production regions of Australia.
