Dear Riders and Parents Thank you for entering the DNSW Young Rider clinic on Jan, The response has been fantastic and the clinic filled quickly, well before the closing date. We re sure you have lots of questions, so hopefully the information contained in this pack will help to enhance your participation in the clinic. Please note the request for riders to download the free app Poll Everywhere In addition to the education of the riders, one benefit of the January clinic is to provide an opportunity for young dressage riders to meet in a supportive environment and to build relationships down the track as they meet again at comps and future clinics. We do hope parents will also take the opportunity to meet and spend time getting to know each other. To the old hands : please welcome those new to the sport. To those who are new or don t know many people, please introduce yourself to the others, and/or make yourself known to the committee. We are always looking for volunteers, so please don t let fear stop you from putting your hand up!! Your participation is not only welcome but needed! Arrival: Registration: Stables: Food: Arrival on Friday is possible if you have booked stables/camping. The grounds will be open for arrival between 3-6pm. Entrance is via Gate 1, Racecourse Road, Clarendon. Please register at the DNSW clubhouse upon arrival. The stables at Clarendon have a dirt floor and should be cleaned before you leave, but are not required to be swept out prior to departure. Hence, your stable should be clean when you arrive, and depending on the stable may or may not require shavings. Shavings can be ordered through Stampede Stockfeeds, located at the back of Horseland at Richmond and will deliver. To fill a box each stable normally takes around 3-4 bales of shavings. If you talk to Steve he will be able to help you, just mention that it is for the Young Rider Clinic at Clarendon. Stampede Stockfeeds 22 Windsor St. Richmond, New South Wales (02) Please note it is a requirement of Hawkesbury Showground/Council that all horses staying on the grounds overnight must be stabled. NO HORSES MAY BE IN YARDS OVERNIGHT. Unfortunately the food van will not be operating, and it will not be possible to purchase food onsite. Complimentary instant coffee/tea will be available, and pod/plunger coffee available for a small cost. Richmond or Windsor each have a variety of restaurants/food outlets/supermarkets and are approximately 10 minute drive. For Friday night dinner the Tavern is within walking distance and has a reasonably priced kid friendly menu. Page 1

Meal package: If you have ordered the meal package please collect your wristband when you register. Saturday night Dinner: Dinner and Sue Hearn s presentation are part of the program. Dinner by Paella Catering is included for riders, and will include a vegetarian option. If you have booked please collect your wristband upon arrival. Dinner is 6-7pm, with Sue commencing at 7.00pm Sue will invite questions so please take this opportunity to think about what you would like to know about Sue s career, her horse, her Rio experience or being a member of the Australian Olympic team. The catered dinner is booked out, but you may still participate in the evening. Format: Attire: Equipment: Lunging: All riding will be on Saturday and Sunday mornings to minimise riding in the heat of the day. Lesson times and coaches are the same both days. We may need to modify the program in the event of extreme heat. Unmounted sessions for all riders will be conducted in the afternoon, and commence at 12.45pm each day. There will also be an unmounted session on Sunday morning (see program). Tidy riding attire with boots and approved helmet. Jackets/plaiting not required. Saddlery/Equipment is per competition rules Lunging areas on the grounds are on the grass at the railway line end outside the fenced warm up arena, and on the grass at the other end of the unfenced warm up arena. There is strictly no lunging in any sand arena. Equi- Motion, who are presenting the Sunday afternoon session Symmetry in the Saddle: How Your Posture Can Affect Horse Performance ask that before the session, riders download the free app: Poll Everywhere and bring their phones to the session. Most sessions are restricted to riders, but some sessions will be open to both parents and riders. For those sessions open to parents, parents are requested to sit or stand at the rear of the room to allow the presenters to pitch the session to the riders. We look forward to seeing you at the clinic, and in the meantime please contact Mandy Jones if you have any queries. The DNSW Young Rider sub- committee: Mandy Jones (coordinator) Kay Barney Sue Bryce Ruth Gotterson Karen Waterman Page 2

Coaches and Presenters Rachael Downs Rachael first got on a horse at the age of six in Coonabarabran, where her parents owned a couple of acres, and owned her first horse, Snuff, shortly after. In her teens Rachael was also a keen swimmer and was the New South Wales State butterfly champion. But as she says: At the end of the day swimming didn t stand a chance against horses! Rachael has been competing in dressage professionally since the age of 19. Rachael is one of Australia s most accomplished and experienced competitors, having competed in the 1999 World Cup Final, Sydney 2000 Olympics, 2002 World Championships, 2006 World Championships, 2010 World Championships, 2012 Work Cup Final. Daniella Dierks Daniella has proven herself to be quite the ambidextrous rider successfully competing in Dressage, Hacking, Eventing and Showjumping events. Daniella has been riding at elite level for 12 years and some of her greatest achievements thus far include representing Australia at the 2003 German Young Riders Championships in Hagan, competing in FEI 1* Eventing as well as winning numerous state and national championships up to Grand Prix level dressage and in show riding. Along with Clemens and Judy Dierks, Daniella owns and operates an established, specialist Dressage training facility in Arcadia, Sydney. Peter Shaw Peter s extensive qualifications and experience include NCAS level 3 coach, National A Level Dressage Judge and Coach Educator who resides in Somersby on the Central Coast of NSW. Peter resigned from a very successful career as a school teacher and Primary School Principal and has since further developed his coaching career. He has trained winners of Melbourne international 3DE 3*, Adelaide International 3DE 4* and also dozens of winners and placegetters up to and including 4* Eventing, many of whom are Western Australians. He has also coached dressage riders, with riders now winning all the way to Grand Prix Dressage. Page 6

Denise Rogan Denise grew up on a cattle and cotton property located west of Brisbane. She started riding at the age of 4 and from that moment on she began attending pony club, campdrafting, polocrosse and anything that had anything remotely to do with horses. Denise decided to focus purely on dressage at the age of 15 and took her then eventing horse "Miss Ritz" all the way through to Intermediate II before retiring her to the paddock. After her university years, Denise acquired the young horse APH Romarn - "Remi", who she trained all the way through from young horse classes to CDI Grand Prix level and were announced on the Australian team in 2005 in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics. Whilst the dream of competing at an Olympics did not become a reality at that time due to untimely injuries to horse and rider, Denise's passion for dressage was most definitely paved in cement and the story now continues with the next team of dressage horses. Kristen Clossen Born into a horse family in Southern California, Kristen's career in horses started quite young becoming a professional junior rider at age 14, a coach whilst still in her teenage years, and had ridden to Grand Prix by her early 20s. Her interests expanded to included judging and horse management, and these alongside coaching saw her traveling around the world for over 5 years. A tour which ended in Australia in Since migrating Kristen has come up through the judging and coaching ranks. She is a B Level Judge, a Young Horse Judge, a Mentor Judge, a Level 2 Dressage Coach, and a Coach Educator. She also enjoys training and competing her own and clients horses from Preliminary to FEI levels. Dave McKinnon FEI Dressage Rider and NCAS level 1 coach. Dave started his dressage career after leaving school and beginning work at Woodside stables in Bowral. He then trained with top Dressage rider Brett Parbery for a few years before beginning Mckinnon Sport Horses. He has enjoyed huge success on a number of different horses including Novice and Elementary Champions at both a State and National Dressage Championships on Bradgate Park Jatz owned by John and Bev Healy. Dave has won FEI championships at both state and national level. Page 7

Anna Krups Robbie McKinnon FEI Grand Prix Dressage Rider, and NCAS Level 1 coach. Robbie has been successful as a young dressage rider and show horse rider. She started professional riding when she came back from a training trip to Germany in She has since trained and competed a number of horses at all levels of dressage from local competitions to National and international level. She was a member of the youth Olympic dressage team and has been on the state and national dressage squads for almost 10 years. She has also had a lot of success competing in the Arabian ring and the open show ring on a number of horses, as well as a National and Grand National Champion rider. Anna Krups is an Executive level Human Resources professional with 10+ years experience working in multinational companies across Europe, Asia and Australia. Her passion for the Equestrian Sport started as a 10- year old and she has trained & competed horses successfully in Germany and Australia from young horse to International Small Tour. Having achieved a Masters Degree in Adult Education (minor in Psychology & Sociology), as well as a Cert IV in Coaching and NLP, Anna combines a unique expertise and skill set of psychological knowledge and first- hand experience as an Equestrian athlete. Alongside her corporate profession, Anna has worked as a freelance High Performance coach with professional riders such as Brett Parbery, as well as conducted clinics for riders at the Australian Dressage Championships and other Equestrian Australia organised events. Derek Major Derek Major is a founding partner of Agnes Banks Equine Clinic and was the driving force behind the evolution of Agnes Banks Equine Clinic and many of its achievements for many years. Derek graduated from Sydney University in 1979 and has particular interests in surgery and reproduction. Derek is a qualified FEI veterinarian and often spends his time on weekends working at FEI related duties at various events. He has previously been Australian Head FEI Veterinarian and Head Veterinarian to the RAS of NSW. Page 8

Sue Hearn Sue Hearn from the Southern Highlands of NSW represented Australia at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 on her horse Remmington', stable name Lloyd. Sue bought the Australian- bred Lloyd when he was a foal and they climbed through the dressage ranks together. She was a reserve rider for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Sue and Remmington won the Brisbane Grand Prix CDI in 2014 and They were also winners of the Equestrian NSW FEI Grand Prix Freestyle competition at the 2016 Sydney CDI. Ilona Bayliss Ilona was brought up riding horses in the South- East of England, and graduated from the University of Cambridge veterinary school in After this she worked at a clinic in Egypt for working equids for several months before heading even further from home to complete her internship at the Randwick Equine Centre in Since then she has stayed on as an associate veterinarian at REC. Her main areas of interest are racetrack practice, lameness, dentistry and radiography. Melissa Lowe, Fortissimo Freestyles As Australia s leading Freestyle Designer, Melissa Lowe is a classical musician and competitive dressage rider, who, inspired by her horse Aria, combined her two passions and created Fortissimo Freestyles. Melissa s mantra is to inspire people to connect with their horses through music, using innovative choreography and music that captures the horses essence. Melissa has designed freestyles for many riders ranging from FEI/Olympic Riders to Young Riders, Equitana, and everything in between. Melissa s business, Fortissimo Freestyles, is dedicated purely to the development of all equestrian freestyles, including Dressage Freestyles, Pony Dressage Freestyles and any other equestrian discipline that can be performed to music. Regardless of your level of competition, Fortissimo Freestyles will accommodate your musical requirements with an unequalled approach to making your freestyle one to remember. Fortissimo Freestyles custom designs choreography & music specifically for your equestrian freestyle: Page 9

Equi- Motion Equi- Motion was founded by Emma Mathlin & Kristin Dean, experienced and passionate practitioners with qualifications in human & equine physiotherapy, exercise physiology & biomechanics. Riders themselves, they have many years of combined experience working with both horses and riders from beginners to Olympic athletes. Combining this experience with their in- depth knowledge of both human and horse anatomy & movement, they bring a new dimension to teaching the biomechanics of riding. Rather than just identify postural and alignment faults in your riding or your horse's movement, we actually identify the cause of the problem and provide you with practical solutions to manage them, be it posture correctional cues, manual therapy or a tailored exercise program. Thank you to all our coaches and presenters: Coaches: Kristen Clossen Daniella Dierks Rachael Downs Robbie McKinnon Dave McKinnon Denise Rogan Peter Shaw Presenters: Equi- Motion Fortissimo Freestyles Sue Hearn Anna Krups Derek Major/Agnes Banks Equine Clinic Ilona Bayliss/Randwick Equine Centre Peter Shaw Thank you especially to Dressage New South Wales for committing the resources to make this first clinic for 2017 comprehensive, relevant and affordable, and for donating the use of the Clarendon grounds for the weekend Page 10
