2 Introduction The month of Av is associated with the constellation of the lion. This is the month the lion roars. The Lion of Judah is roaring for us (Joel 3:16).

3 We must roar in faith. Our roaring/praise becomes a covering of the Lord, and God begins to unlock things for us. Let this be a month of joyful, powerful praise.

4 Quiz (True/False) 1. Lions live approximately fifteen years in the wild while they can survive 25 to 30 years in captivity. The number of lions reduced drastically in the last couple of decades. Their female cubs also stay with the pride, even after they re grown, but male cubs must venture out on their own once they reach maturity.

9 13. A National Symbol: Lions are associated with pride, courage, and strength, making them a perfect national symbol. Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, England, Ethiopia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Singapore all regard the lion as their national symbol.

11 How Lions Communicate They use different calls when communicating with each other: meows, roars, grunts, moans, growls, snarls, purrs, hums, puffs and woofs. Each sound has a different meaning.

12 The most famous of these calls is the roar. It is one of the loudest calls in the animal kingdom and can be heard from up to 8km away. The male s roar is deeper and louder than the female s.

13 Lions are very protective of their home, and a male lion, whose main job is to defend his pride, uses his loud roar to warn off anything that might threaten his family.

14 Lions roar to tell other lions where they are show how big they are warn lions from other prides to keep away from their home territory. They do this mostly just before sunrise and sunset when they are most active.

15 Examples of how Lions Communicate When lions greet each other and play together, they make lots of silly noises - like hums and puffs - to show they are happy. When a mother lioness is looking for her cubs, she will call very softly for them. The cubs recognize this sound and call back to her to show where they are.

16 They also use their faces and body language to show how they are feeling. When they feel threatened, lions show off their biggest weapons - sharp teeth and claws - and try to make themselves look as big as possible by standing on their tiptoes, lifting up their tails and hunching their backs.

17 If a pride male wants to show another pride member that he is not happy, he will give them a quick swat with his paw or a gentle bite to the neck. He doesn t want to hurt the other lion; just to let them know that they have stepped out of line.

18 To show they are happy and relaxed, lions will lick or gnaw softly at each other.

19 Lions also use their scent to communicate. Animals recognize each other by the way they smell in a way that a human would find very difficult. They urinate ('go to the toilet') on the ground and bushes, which is called territorial marking. By leaving this strong smell around their territory, they are telling other lions to stay away from their home.

20 Each pride has its own particular smell; it s a mixture of the smells of each individual pride member. As they greet each other, lions rub heads and necks and by doing this they can they recognize each other by scent.

21 What Happens When Lions Roar in Scriptures? Christians are exhorted to have lion-like characteristics Eg - boldness, strength, diligence, leadership, and determination. Throughout Scripture lions are used as similes and metaphors for good and bad.

22 The enemy is depicted as a prowling roaring lion, ready to devour any weak Christian: 1 Peter 5:8-10 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

23 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

27 In the wild a lion roars just as it is about to pounce on its prey. Symbolically and metaphorically, the roar of a lion or the crack of thunder shows the imminent intervention of God in human affairs (I Samuel 2:10; Isaiah 29:6; 31:4; Hosea 11:9-11; Revelation 16:18).

28 In the mid-eighth century BC when Amos preached, Israel's economic base was largely in agriculture, but a drought had begun to destabilize that foundation.

33 5 Will a bird fall into a snare on the earth, where there is no trap for it? Will a snare spring up from the earth, if it has caught nothing at all? 6 If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?

40 The Lord has done what He warned He would do. While the threat is being made, one can still escape, but once judgment begins, it is too late. When a lion sees his prey, he will try to kill it.

41 When the divine Lion roars, the people need to shake off their complacency because His roar means He is about to spring into action! He means what He says about living His way of life, and He follows through when we depart from it.

42 Some people, like birds, unwittingly stumble into trouble. Oblivious to everything around them, they fall into traps, like being swindled by con men or crafty deceivers even when the trumpet sounded loudly.

43 Application - God's people are often just like birds, unsuspectingly going to their destruction, unmindful of the dangers around them. We must think about the direction that we are heading.

44 In His mercy, God always warns His people of coming calamity, either through His prophets (Amos 3:7) or through escalating disasters that lead to His ultimate judgment.

45 3. Joel 3:16-18 (NKJV) 16 The Lord also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the Lord will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.

46 17 So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, And no aliens shall ever pass through her again. God Blesses His People

47 18 And it will come to pass in that day That the mountains shall drip with new wine, The hills shall flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; A fountain shall flow from the house of the Lord And water the Valley of Acacias.

49 1. His voice will be heard. And utter His voice from Jerusalem (3:16). 2. There will be a shaking off of old, wrong things. The heavens and earth will shake (3:16). Tiredness will be shaken off. Being overly careful will be shaken off. Satan tries to get us locked up in smallness and fear. The roar will break that so-called cage he tries to put us into and we will step into boldness.

50 3. You will experience the Lord s protection for you (and your family). But the Lord will be a shelter for His people (3:16).

51 4. You will experience a new anointing of the Holy Spirit. The mountains shall drip with new wine (3:18). New wine is very strong because Jesus said the new wine will rip apart old wineskins. Receive new anointing. New wine also has to do with joy, so get ready to laugh a lot.

52 5. You will get more and more revelation! The hills shall flow with milk (3:18). Milk refers to the word of the Lord. As you shift into this new identity of a lion, our spirits will be able to grasp and understand what the Lord wants to show us. Expect new strategies and methods to be released to you.

53 6. Miracles will flow from you! And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water (3:18). We as people of God are like brooks through whom the waters of the Holy Spirit flow. Note that this verse says flooded or overflow. Wherever we go, the presence of the Lord in us will touch other people and situations that we walk into.

54 Summary What happens when God calls us to roar? Similar to the purpose of a shofar, lions roar to awaken, alert & announce what God is about to do. God uses it to release His voice to warn & fight off the enemy as well as to release His blessings & revelation!! God is giving another new weapon for our breakthrough!!
