Founded in 1946, WSC is located west of Ypsilanti on almost two hundred wooded, rolling acres. We have a number of facilities and ranges that support each of the shooting disciplines. 2 WSC has some of the finest archery ranges in the state. Our indoor range features 24 shooting lanes with distances up to 35 yards. Our outdoor ranges include a PAA range, a 3-D range, as well as field hunter and broadhead silhouette ranges. The Pistol and Small-bore Rifle Ranges feature a covered firing line with distances from 25 to 100 yards. Bowling pins, steel plate shoots, and IDPA style shoots are scheduled throughout the year. In addition,.22 Caliber small-bore silhouette matches are conducted from the spring through the fall months each year. The Trap and Skeet ranges are host to leagues, open practice and muzzle loader skeet shoots. Our unique layout allows Trap and Skeet to be shot simultaneously. The muzzle loading range has a covered and enclosed firing line with shooting distances up to 200 yards. Flintlock, cap and ball, and black powder metallic cartridge shoots are conducted year round. A hawk and knife range is located next to the muzzle loader range. WSC has one of the longest rifle ranges in the state. Shooting distances up to 600 yards are available. Covered shooting is available for distances up to 200 yards. Our rifle range is host to organizations such as the Cast Bullet Association, Varminter Biathlon and Hi-Power rifle groups. We are located at 5095 Ellis Road in Ypsilanti, Mi. The volley will be at 1:00 pm Saturday August 19, 2017 at the MSMLA Shotgun Championships held at Grand Valley Cap N Ballers Muzzle Loading Gun Club. Mark the date on your calendar and hope that you can be there. REMINDER-REMINDER When making checks out for sponsorship, newsletters, shoot schedule etc DO NOT MAKE THEM OUT TO RON FERNWALT, MAKE THEM OUT TO MSMLA. MY WIFE ASK ME ONE DAY WHAT DID YOU SELL JOHN DOE Thank you for your cooperation Ron MEMORIAL We lost two people that shot shotgun this past year. Clyde Carr from Hastings which headed state shotgun up and worked with Pa Keeler in getting it going. Clyde and Betty donated too many different clubs. The two that I know of was Lansing Muzzle Loading Gun Club and Grand Valley Cap N Ballers Muzzle Loading gun Club and the State Association. Clyde was also a Keeler Society member. Clyde was a great competitor in his day at National s, State and surrounding Clubs. Mike Watson from Canada shot at the nationals, state, GVCNB, international team and surrounding shoots. These two people touched a lot of lives in their career and helped many different people on how to shoot shotgun. Betty Carr will be there at the Volley. CUSTOM SMOOTH BORES J & L Horrigan Ent. Custom turned smooth bore barrels Larry Horrigan Cell lehorrigan@hotmail.com RAID AT MARTINS STATION By Scott Silverman I have for a very long time been interested in attending the Raid at Martins Station in Eving Va. Last year in August as I struggled to maintain my Sanity during Nursing School, I came up with the idea of attending the raid as a reward for completing school in May of Now all I needed was some hardy souls to go with me. My interest in Martins Station Sparked when I started doing my genealogy. In doing my

3 research I found that I had family that came thru the Cumberland Gap with Boone. In fact, I had a great Grandmother that was killed in an Indian attack while on the wilderness road. For me I felt the overwhelming urge to walk on some of the same ground that my ancestors had some 200 years ago. Now for the catch I needed to recruit members for my modern party for my trip thru the gap. In August of 2016 at the Frontier Shoot I broached the subject with two of my best chances of making this trip with me. Dennis Priddy and Larry Horrigan. Both guys were somewhat non-committal in their responses to me, but at least they didn t say no. To compound the hurdles I had to overcome was the fact we all had to take photos of ourselves in correct period clothing to be juried in order to attend the event. I knew Larry was an experienced re-enactor and would not have any problem with this, however Dennis and I were not experienced with this problem. After a little convincing I was finally able to get a loose commitment from Dennis and Larry that they would attend with me if their schedules would allow. Now we were in business. Even tho I had Dennis and Larry, I felt we needed one more to add to our party of hearty souls, so I approached Tim Kilmartin to be the fourth member of our contingent. Tim was, thankfully for me, an easy sell. We now had four members of the Grand Valley Contingent for this event. So after a nine hour drive we finally arrived at Martins Station and what a sight it was to behold. The mountain ridge in the background was absolutely breath taking. Now there was no time for sightseeing, we had had to get camp set up and in a hurry as there was a storm brewing. I have to hand it to Dennis and Larry, they made quick work on getting our canvas up in a hurry. No sooner did we get everything set up, and the sky turned black. We could see the lightning up over the ridge line first then the wind freshened. Next thing I knew we were under a monster of a thunder storm. After the fact I heard a weather report saying that the maximum sustained wind gust was over 60 MPH. I am proud to say that our tent and awning held fast, some of our neighbors were not so lucky. There were plenty of ripped white canvas around. The rain would continue off and on all day Friday, but it would let up enough for us to visit the fort as well as do a little shopping, after all it was Mother s Day weekend and we dare not come home empty handed. The fort was very well done in its construction, if it were not for the fact for the cars being parked so close I would have sworn I was in That was the major drawback that we all noticed was a constant flow of cars in and out of camp. I guess we have to keep the fact that we are still in 2017 no matter how hard we try to forget the fact at times. 4 GVCNB SHOTGUN SOCIAL KEELER SOCIETY UPDATE There was a good turnout for the Shotgun Social held on June 24 th and 25 th. The club had several that turned out for it and about ½ a dozen or so that haven t shot before. The pulled pork that John and Cheryl Snyder cooked up was very good and also the other goodies that our gals supplied made for a fantastic meal. MANNISTEE CLAN 58 TH JUNE SHOOT Had some soggy campers the day before their shoot began. They were all thankful that mother nature got it out of its system by Friday morning. Local rain gauges showed 3 inches of rain from the storms that moved thru on Thursday. They had 36 family registration with a total of 66 competitors. They tried something new this year by having a food wagon to set up for the weekend but say it couldn t match up to Harry s Kitchen. It sounds as tho the food wagon went over very well. SPRING BROOK TRADING CO. EST 1990 Black Powder Shopp whammond88@hotmail.com William F. Hammond, 9024 E Spicerville Hwy. Eaton Rapids, Mi This a snap shot of the patch that will be given to all registered shooters that shoot the designated target at the State Shotgun Championship The opportunity to win a patch will also be given to all entrants of the NMLRA Rifle Territorial. The following paragraph is from the rules put together by the Keeler Society members. If a person registers at the Michigan State Championship Rifle & Pistol Matches or the Michigan Territorial Rifle & Pistol Matches they will be issued a five bull target that will be labeled The Roy Pa Keeler Centennial Match. That target must be shot at a distance of fifty yards and anyone that turns in a completed target will get a commemorative patch that will be worthy of putting out on display. Three shots will be fired from any rest position and two shots must be shot from the offhand position all using the same rifle. Any iron sights will be allowed, but no scopes. Inline rifles will be allowed but they must use patched round ball ammunition. Similar matches will be held at the Michigan state championship shotgun matches as well as the Michigan territorial championship shotgun

5 matches. Those matches will consist of five birds at ten yards and anyone that registers to compete will be eligible to shoot the Roy PA Keeler Centennial Shotgun Match. Like the rifle matches no scores will be kept for that match but you must shoot the match to receive your patch. Muzzle loading Shotguns must be used in these matches. Other than that standard rules apply. The beautiful patch was designed by my son Alexander, with the approval of the Keeler Society. So if you like to have a one of a kind special patch commemorating the 100th birthday of "Pa Keeler" come and register as a shooter at one or all of the approved shoots. See you at the shoots. Submitted by: David Maddox For the Keeler Society Ma (Thelma) and Pa (Roy) Keeler in 1969 (Roy) Keeler in 1961 Beaverton Wyandot Shoot. The above pictures will be at a silent auction, one at the Michigan Skeet & Trap Territorial and one at the MSMLA Rifle/Pistol Championship and the other at the MSMLA Shotgun Championships and one at the Rifle/Pistol Territorial. The shotgun chairman will work with other clubs thru out the state to move the championships every three years. The shotgun chairman is responsible for reporting any decisions made by the shotgun committee to the MSMLA board SPONSORS First of all, the association wants to thank all those people and business that sponsored a match and those that went out and talked to business s and other clubs on sponsoring a match. Doing this cuts down on the cost of putting on the state shoot. The sponsors will be posted on the web at we are still looking for sponsors for the State shotgun matches. The cost to sponsor a match is only $ As you can see we are short on sponsors for that program. Hope to see ya all at the state shotgun championship held at Grand Valley Cap n Ballers.
