STICKS & STRINGS NEWS Published on the 15th of March, June, August, December December 2017 Issue News and Views...The views expressed here in the editorial section are solely the editors views and not necessarily represent that of the CTAS organization. Hello CTAS, Can you believe it, the fall big game seasons have come and gone for most of the western states!? Time has flown these past few months as I have dipped in and out of civiliza on with the inten on of spending as much quality me in the wild places our backyard has to offer with s ck and string in hand. I hope this fall has brought you luck and your freezers are burgeoning as we move into the hermit months of Colorado s winter. As always, we are looking forward to the events coming up during these winter months to bring our group together. January we have the annual rabbit hunt put on by the Fiscus. Let s get out in the snow (hopefully!) and sling some arrows, sharing some short daylight hours with good friends. Moving into February, we have our annual banquet on the Front Range. Sadie has done an outstanding job with help of many to organize what will be a great event for us to circle the wagons, share some stories from fall, and catch up with old/new friends. We have a great guest speaker many of you will recognize, plenty of seminars throughout the day, as well as all the food and drink to keep you sa sfied. As with years past, we ask you to purchase ckets ahead of me with the form further on in the newsle er. Before we know it, the days will begin to outweigh the nights and the turkeys will be gobbling! In the mean me, I encourage you to come out and join us this winter with our annual events. You can find more informa on on both events in the following pages as well as on the CTAS website ( Last but not least, save the date for our annual High Country Shoot June 22 24, 2018! Good Luck and Shoot Straight - David Hoff, S ck and String Editor
CTAS BOARD MEMBERS Brad Parkhill (Chairman) Mike Koenig (Secretary) (970) Steve Shuey (Treasurer) (970) Scott Hargrove (Membership) (970) Kristi Hargrove (HC Registration) (970) Chris Reilly (HC Competition) (970) Eric Sawyer (HC Ranges) (970) Mike Hays (719) Kari Morris (970) Mark Kadnuck (Store) (970) Britt Batterton (970) Bill Grammer (970) Ron Rockwell (303) Dirk Dieterich (Website) (719) Tim Johnson (HC Shoot Chair) (303) Sadie Jo Accashian (Facebook) (303) Jake Powell (719) Barry Smith (970) Tavis Rogers (719) David Hoff (Newsletter Editor) (720) Gree ngs, Hun ng season is upon us as I am wri ng this. I hunted Elk with a few friends and had a great me..no Elk but a great me none the less. In late November and early December I will hunt for Whitetail then call it good for the year. For most of us I suspect ge ng out in the field has been the nurturing we needed, necessary therapy for re-calibra ng our minds so we can deal with everything else life throws at us. At least that is what works for me! The prepara ons are underway for our annual CTAS Banquet on February 10th. The Board of Directors and many volunteers are ac vely seeking helpers to assist us with finding dona ons for the auc on and raffles and to help put up displays and trophies. If you are able to assist in any way please reach out to me or one of our board members and let them know how you can help. We would greatly appreciate your par cipa on. We are hoping to get a much larger animal display at this upcoming banquet and would love it if you would consider bringing a trophy to the event. It makes it more fun for everyone. Thank you in advance for making the extra effort for our 2018 banquet. See you all soon and remember to invite a friend to the banquet..heck buy a cket for someone and bring them to dinner. They will see why you hang out with this bunch of characters. With kind regards, Brad Parkhill Chairman of the Board
The 2017 Colorado Tradi onal Archer s society youth hunt took place this past fall (Sept 28 to Oct 1). Mike and Amanda Lawson, once again, kindly allowed our hunters access to their private ranch west of Grand Junc on. Hunters came from around the state. Jessie and her father John traveled from Larkspur; Orion came from Gunnison; Brandon and his grandmother, Diane, drove over from Craig; and Shayden and her father, Brad, drove back and forth to Gypsum a couple of mes. Shayden was the only pitcher for her so ball team and wanted to be there for her team but didn t miss out on the hunt. (Talk about mul -tasking!!) No one was able to harvest a doe but everyone had encounters. The thing that makes the CTAS Youth Hunt so amazing is the friendships that are forged, the experiences that are shared, and the tradi ons that are passed on. Now that I ve been doing this for a few years, I can t tell you how gra fying it is to be at High County and see the Youth Hunters finding the friends they made at on the hunt in years past. None of this would happen without the help of the CTAS mentors. Thanks so much Steve, Mark, Phil, Denny, and Dean! I appreciate you all so much THANK YOU! I d like to say a special THANK YOU to the Colorado Mule Deer Founda on for their generous dona on to our Youth Hunt this year. If you know someone between the ages of 12 and 17 who would like to join us for the 2018 CTAS Youth Hunt, or would like to volunteer, please me. Karen Derby houli@bresnan.net
Watch out Waskly Wabbits! Winter me is coming and that means rabbit hun ng! I cannot wait! I hope you are as excited as I am! Mark your calendars for January 6 and 7, 2018 to come enjoy a fun filled, snow trekking, arrow flinging, chili ea ng, camp fire si ng, story telling weekend! This exci ng weekend starts at 7 am at the Main Street Coffee house in Rangely co. It is located at 124 w Main Street. This will give us me to grab a bite to eat while all the archers arrive! We leave from there to the rabbit fields where a nice homemade chili lunch will be served with a warm camp fire! Later that night, we will meet at 6:30 pm at the Giovanni's restaurant located at 855 E Main where the stories will flow free and the traveling trophy will be awarded. Wonder which archer will get it for 2018??? Call Bobbie Fiscus at or Daniel Fiscus at with ques ons!
Come out and join the CTAS organiza on for our yearly banquet gathering to share tall tales, view each others successes of the year, and enjoy the comradery that has fueled this community for decades. We will have live and silent auc ons, a guest speaker (MR. TOM CLUM), trophy display, photo contests, and more. A delectable dinner will be provided with your admission and beverages will be available for purchase. We encourage everyone to par cipate in the trophy display, photo contest, arrow building contest, and bow building contest. The more par cipa on in these contests, the more engaging and exci ng the event will be!
