Hours are 7-9p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 8a.m.- noon Saturday. Attendance is mandatory at all 3 classes to obtain a safety certificate. The DNR customer number can be obtained by visiting any DNR Service Center or by calling The class is limited to 40 participants and the students must be at least 11 years old to take the course (12 years old to operate a snowmobile with safety certificate). To register, call Jim Hallen, Dan Kirkpatrick or Dave Kirkpatrick. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must have a safety certificate to operate a snowmobile on public lands or trails. Persons 16 or older may obtain a snowmobile safety certificate by getting a CD-ROM course from the Department of Natural Resources. More information is available on the DNR Web site. Ice Fishing is Here As the temperature gets colder ice anglers begin to dust off their tip-ups and ice augers to prepare for the season. Three hooks, lines or lures apply to open water fishing as well as ice fishing. This means that an ice angler may only use 3 lines with one hook/lure each or a combination there of. A bait with a treble hook(s) is still consider one hook/lure. For inland waters, if an ice shanty is left out on the ice unattended it must legibly bear the owner s name and address on the outside of the shanty. When using an ice shanty on boundary waters such as the St. Croix River, the shelter even if a portable shelter must bear the owner s name and address at all times even if occupied or in use. An ice angler may not fish inside a LOCKED ice shanty. The only time an ice shanty can be locked is if unoccupied or not in use. All other fish size and bag limits apply during the ice fishing season By Paul N. Sickman Wisconsin Conservation Warden

7 Hunting Story from Steve McDonald I have had the hunts of a life time this year. I went to my cabin in Pepin County for the opening night for bow season 9/18 and got out to a ladder stand along a field about 2:30. I had a small buck come by about 6 pm and then about 6:45 I saw some does across the field head into a corn field and a few minutes later a real nice buck comes out across the field and is rubbing his antlers in the branches of a tree that I have a ladder stand in, I though geezz I should have set up there. After watching him for a few minutes I decided that he has no reason to cross 130 yd field and come to me so I dug out my small buck grunt call and gave one grunt, he looked over my way and then walked over and turned broadside at 35 yds and I gave a bleat call to stop him and made the shot, he turned and ran back where he came from although he rolled over when he hit a small ditch. It was now 7 pm, so I got down and found my arrow and thought I may have hit him a bit back, so I called my Son-in-Law to come down to help find him in the morning. We followed the blood trail and found him about 50 yds. in the woods, my biggest buck at that time. We had game camera pictures of the buck just one day only on 8/7. Then on opening day of gun season, I was in my box stand and all morning long I was thinking I was in animal central, turkeys roosting around me then different groups coming and going, deer were apparently still in rut as I noticed does running back and forth and small bucks chasing, of couse squirels everywhere, had a red fox come by. I had 8-10 does hanging around when finally at about 10:30 the big "wide guy" showed up and I made the shot. I couldn't tell at that time of the shot how big he was as I didn't have clear view of all of his rack. We had several videos of this buck until mid July when we pulled that camera. A new biggest deer. While I was sitting on the hillside calming down and taking pictures, a non-typical 12 pt came by and headed toward my Son Chad, he was able to get him. I still can't believe 2 days hunting about 10 hours total hunting for my best 2 deer.
8 Steve McDonald Steve McDonald Chad McDonald Big Buck Contest Winners 1st Bob Snegosky 17 1/4 x nd Dan Kirkpatrick 17 1/2 x rd Jeff Prescott 17 x Please do not dump deer carcass's on the Club property or at the gate.
9 Logging The loggers returned after deer hunting and made considerable headway into the project. As you drive into the gate and look to the archery range you will see a hill of wood chips and piles of logs waiting to be hauled out. They have already hauled out 18 loads of 21 tons per load and 11 loads of logs. As you drive up to the trap fields you will see the open woods. They should be done around the middle of January.
