Lees op bl 108 oor dié formidabele vrou wat saam met die mans in haar lewe Romaco Ranch tot een van die vooraanstaande wildtelers in die land opgebou het, asook haar enorme bydrae tot die formele strukture in die georganiseerde wildbedryf. Gaan loer ook na al die trotse damesjagters in Jagfotogalery (bl 70) en Bullet Talk (bl 28) wat weer eens getuig van hoe gewild dié sport onder vroue geraak het. Yolandé van der Westhuizen vertel op haar kostelike manier van haar eerste koedoejag, n onvergeetlike ondervinding, daar op Geluksdal anderkant Louis Trichardt (bl 40). Verder vertel Yolandi Louw hoe sy haar eerste springbok gejag het en deel haar gewaarwordinge nadat sy altyd gewonder het wat presies in die jagveld aangaan (bl 32). Our regular contributor, hunter and friend, Laurence Jennings, has done his fair share to promote hunting. 8 ʼn Opgewonde JC Naudé by die tydskrifrak JC in sy element! Ek en my man wil julle diep uit ons trotse ouerharte bedank vir die blydskap oor hierdie groot droom wat julle bewaarheid het! JC is in sy element oor sy artikel wat geplaas is! Watter verrassing om dit sommer heel voor in die tydskrif boonop met n foto van hom saam met sy pappa, oupa, kleinboetie én Stefan daarby te kry! Hy kon gistermiddag nadat ek hom by sy revue-oefening opgelaai het, skaars wag! Van sy seunsmaats het saam met hom voor die skoolhek gejuig en vir my Whatsapp-boodskappe gestuur wat vir JC bedoel was. Boonop het van hulle vroeër die middag al die tydskrif gaan koop. JC het al verlede week navraag gedoen oor wanneer presies die nuwe uitgawe op die rak gaan wees. Daarna het sy maats seker gemaak hul ma s neem hulle ná skool na die naaste winkel om dit te koop. Ek dink dit was vir hom die langste namiddag by die naskoolsentrum, want ek het hom plegtig beloof dat ons dadelik sou ry om dit te gaan koop. Met sy blou AVATAR-leotard het hy vooruit gehardloop en by die skuifdeure van die naaste ENGEN- quickshop ingestorm. Die feit dat hy pas video-opnames gemaak het vir kyknet se 2018 skolerevuekompetisie, het hom min geskeel. Hy was kwalik bewus van hoe komies almal by die vulstasie hom gevind het. Die trane van vreugde het letterlik gerol. Hulle het egter nie besef waaroor dit alles gaan nie. Terwyl JC met sy wipneusie in die WILD & JAG langs my gesit het, het ek die grootsheid van die oomblik met n knop in my keel gesluk Ek het n video gemaak om die oomblik te verewig. Dit spreek boekdele! Ek het op daardie oomblik weer eens besef watse groot eer ons kind gegun is! Oupa het gisteraand opgewonde vir JC vertel hoe hy onmiddellik al die uitgawes by sy naaste Engen- quickshop gaan koop. Dis nou nadat die seuns hom gebel het om hom met sy verjaarsdag geluk te wens en JC die groot nuus met sy oupa gedeel het! Gun Owners interim court interdict Martin Hood The substance of this article came about as a consequence of the interim court interdict obtained by Gun Owners of South Africa (GOSA) on Friday, 27

I will in broad terms unravel both interdicts to explain what they are and how they might affect you. The first was granted in 2009 and is generally known as the SA Hunters interdict.

This interdict has caused some controversy, confusion and extensive legal commentary.

The police have stated in a number of court cases what their interpretation of the first interdict is.

9 Gun Owners interim court interdict Martin Hood The substance of this article came about as a consequence of the interim court interdict obtained by Gun Owners of South Africa (GOSA) on Friday, 27 July This is the second interim interdict issued by the High Court in Pretoria that has a major impact on law-abiding firearm owners. I will in broad terms unravel both interdicts to explain what they are and how they might affect you. The first was granted in 2009 and is generally known as the SA Hunters interdict. This decided that all green licences were valid, which means that a licence issued in terms of the Arms and Ammunitions Act, 1969 (Act No 75 of 1969) remains valid. This interdict has caused some controversy, confusion and extensive legal commentary. It has been interpreted to mean that if you have only a green licence, that green licence remains valid, or if you have both green and white licences, the green licences remain valid. The police have stated in a number of court cases what their interpretation of the first interdict is. In their opinion, if you transitioned to white licences, your green licence rights cease to exist. If you kept your green licence and did not transition to white, then you have a valid green licence. I have previously stated that I believe the interim interdict only preserved old licences that were not converted to white licences, but now my view is in accordance with many other organisations that the interim interdict covered all green licences issued in terms of the Arms and Ammunitions Act. I have read a variety of views and opinions, but I think the words of Judge Prinsloo himself adequately summarise what he had in mind. I quote Judge Prinsloo in his 2009 judgment: It was submitted by Counsel for the Applicant that in view of the fact that Schedule 1 of the Act will remain valid and enforceable until declared unconstitutional, the relief to be granted to the Applicant appears to be in order in terms of which firearm licences issued in terms of the 1969 Act will be deemed to be lawful and valid, pending final adjudication of the main application. and The effect of such an order will be similar to an interim interdict granted against the Respondent to prevent the Respondent from enforcing measures or taking action following upon the invalidity of licences mentioned in Section 1(1) of the Schedule, pending finalisation of the main application. 27 July 2018 Therefore all green licences in existence as at the date of the court order, valid as at 26 June 2009, remain valid. The next category of licence holders is white licence holders who have expired licences. If you are such a person, then you are a beneficiary of the GOSA interim interdict. On Friday, 27 July 2018, GOSA obtained an interim interdict prohibiting and preventing the police from implementing any plans of action effectively to confiscate any firearm that has an expired licence, pending a determination of the validity of the relicensing periods. This determination will take place in the High Court at some point in the future. This means that anyone who has an expired white licence does not have to hand their firearm to the police, and the police are not allowed to demand that you surrender your firearm to them if you have an expired licence. This interdict provides a lifeline to expired licence card holders to retain their firearms. As I have not yet seen the full judgment given by Judge Prinsloo (he gave it verbally directly from the bench), I cannot comment further at this stage, although there may well be much more in the judgment than this brief summary. Therefore, if you have an expired white licence, you may legally retain the firearm, but as lawyers say, out of an abundance of caution, I recommend that the firearm remains locked up in your safe and that it is not being used until the High Court makes a final decision as to precisely what should be done with an expired licence. We as firearm owners have now entered an environment of both legal complexity and uncertainty. Firearm owners most certainly appear to have the upper hand, at least in the short term. To resolve the uncertainty relating to green licences and expired white licences requires a genuine bone fide commitment from government to sit down with stakeholders in the industry and listen to them, because we understand the problems and have practical ways to solve them. We as a broad church of firearm owners have been trying to do so for as long as I have been involved in the industry to do this. So far, unfortunately, it has been a one-way street from our side. Perhaps now the police and government will realise the need to change or face further legal challenges and embarrassment in court.
