2 Message from the Tournament Director Thank you for being a part of the Annual Calgary Open Shotokan Cup Tournament We will again be using Sportdata software which allows us to improve the efficiency of the registration and draw preparation process. This tool also provides a scheduling function so we will be able to help families and competitors plan the tournament day more accurately. In order to make this effective, please ensure that parents and competitors provide accurate and complete information to their Sensei and that Senseis take extra care to make sure this information is submitted to the system correctly. An Event Schedule will be ed once the draws have been completed. This should help families plan their day. If you are interested in officiating please contact MARC WARD at karateincalgary@gmail.com. The officials are an integral part of the success of our tournament so your assistance is greatly appreciated. There will be Officials Training on Sunday April 19, 2015 at the Montgomery Community Centre. Please refer to the Karate Alberta website for more information (karateab.org). Faxed or ed documents cannot be accepted Shall comply with current WKF rules (eg, fist protectors, mouth guards, groin cups, shin/instep protectors) $20.00/person, single event or Kumite ENTRY FEES: $10.00/person, for second events or Kumite $15.00 per Team REGISTRATION and INFORMATION: For registration and further information, please go to the Sportdata site at this link. VOLUNTEERS Volunteers will be needed for set up at 8:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING and for teardown at 5:00pm SATURDAY AFTERNOON. Volunteers are also required for table officials and marshalling. Please contact Suzanne at sueclavelle@yahoo.ca by Wednesday April 22, 2015 to advise if you are willing to help out. I would like to have a list of the volunteers prepared beforehand. General Notes Enter your appropriate division based on age at the time of this Tournament. Consolidation of divisions will occur at the discretion of the tournament organizer. The tournament will be run following the rules established by the WKF.

4 Team Events Team Event Pre-registration is MANDATORY for Team o Teams may use any from their curriculum. Team Kumite Event Teams will be determined on the day of the tournament. Individual Events Rules from any traditional style or association is allowed. All kyu grades can repeat. Dan grades cannot repeat. Kumite Rules - WKF Rules Flag Kumite for 4-6 year old One minute event Two flags for each participant with one flag on either side of belt (left/right): blue for one participant, red for the other Participant who captures both of their opponents flags is declared the winner Kumite will be Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Beginner: 10 th, 9 th, 8 th, 7 th Kyu / Intermediate: 6 th, 5 th, 4 th Kyu / Advance: Brown 3 rd, 2 nd, 1 st Kyu and Black Belt Age groups 4 6, 7 8, 9 11, 12 13, 14 15, 16 17, 18 34, 35+ Competitors aged 4-13 will be single elimination as well as beginner and intermediate aged 14+. Advanced 14+ will be repechage. Competitors aged 4-13 will be 1.5 minutes run time. Competitors aged 14+ will be 2 minutes stop time. Competitors (male only) aged 18+ will be 3 minutes stop time. Safety Equipment WKF Safety requirements to apply White safety equipment is allowed ALL male competitors are required to wear groin protection. Rule Supplement If less than 3 competitors events may be combined. An attempt will be made to keep all movement within the division, up or down one division if possible. Events will be single elimination unless otherwise announced. Polycarbonate safety glasses may be worn upon approval by the chief official.
