Safety Equipment Required Mouth Guards, Hands, Feet, Groin Cup (males). No contact, Blood or Redness = Disqualification. Detailed Rules will be reviewed at black belt meeting. First 3 competitors perform, then score. High & Low scores are thrown out, added back in if a tie. If still tie a new Kata is required. Weapons Kata: Traditional Okinawan / Chinese weapons allowed. NO LIVE BLADES Team Kata: Self Defense: Tournament Schedule Kyu and Black Belt separate divisions **CANNOT BE MIXED** 3 Attacks minimum - 6 Attacks maximum (Black Belts can UKE for KYU ranks) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION We reserve the right to make any changes to divisions as necessary. 6 Traditional Martial Arts Association Tournament Rules All Judges Must Be a Minimum of 18 Years Old (Exception Junior Black Belts may judge with permission from their Sensei and the Chief Referee and the Arbitrator) Any Competitor acting in an unsportsmanlike manner will automatically be disqualified. All competitors and judges will wear traditional uniforms, no exceptions. No Hats to be worn on the competition floor please Kumite: All Ranks First opponent to score 3 points wins (no time limits) First opponent to score 5 points in Grand Champion competition match wins (No time limits) No Blood, If blood or redness occurs, the one causing is disqualified. No face contact: 1st contact, one warning; 2nd contact, one point given to opponent: 3rd contact Disqualification ( Three Judges must see contact, Center Judge has two votes for contact only) No Groin, Kidney, Joints, or Back of the Head Techniques, No Sweeps, Leg Checks, or Finger Stabs. Must have Safety Gear for the following: Head, Hands, Feet, Groin, Mouth Three Times run out of the ring. Point goes to the Opponent Black Belts: No contact to the face, Light to the Body Kata: All Ranks (Run first 3 competitors then begin scoring) Throw out High and Low Scores and add the rest for score In case of a tie, add the high and low scores into original score. If this does not break the tie contestants must do a new Kata if they know one. Weapons: All Ranks Traditional Okinawan/Chinese weapons allowed. No live weapons. Self-Defense: Six Attacks (Minimum of 3, maximum of 6) Attacks can be with weapons or empty hands. Scoring is the same as with Kata (not by show of hands) Black Belts can be UKE for KYU Ranks Team Kata: 2 to 6 competitors max: Empty hands, weapons, kumitachi (bokken) allowed. NO LIVE BLADES!

7 Traditional Martial Arts Association Rules of Authority The Chief Referee is in charge of the competition floor. Each Arbitrator will be in charge of two Rings that they will be assigned to for the entire competition. Arbitrators will consult with the Chief Referee on any conflict that they feel they cannot handle themselves Arbitrators have the authority to eject a judge they feel is not fulfilling their duties. Arbitrators are asked to periodically check with score keepers to make sure that they are keeping accurate records TMAA Tournament rules are the only rules that will apply during this competition. The Tournament Coordinators will be the sole authorities on the Interpretation of TMAA Tournament Rules. Center Referees have two votes on the excessive contact call only, otherwise they have One vote for a point. Center Referees will confer with their Arbitrator if they feel that a judge should be removed. Center Referees should also keep track of opponents Kumite points as a check to the score keepers, the Center Referee will supersede the score keepers point tally in a Kumite Match in the event of a discrepancy.
