3 The SaskArcher Magazine draws your attention to Tristan Moran: Here is a young lad who is making his mark in the field of archery. We will give you a little info on how Tristan s year in archery went. He had a pretty amazing year, and really progressed as an archer. His indoor season consisted of 2 national indoor target records, a national indoor Gold, a provincial indoor Gold and a 5th place finish at the World Archery Tournament in Las Vegas. His outdoor season saw him break 8 national outdoor FITA records, 3 provincial Gold, as well as Gold in Halifax at the FCA Outdoor National FITA Championships where he also had the highest score in the tournament out of all archers. We are very proud of him. Here are his records. All records are Pre-cub compound: Canadian Open indoor - 590/600 Canadian Championships indoor - 590/600 Canadian Championships Outdoor Fita /1440 Canadian Open 30 meter - 355/360 Canadian Championship 30 meter - 355/360 Canadian Open 25 meter - 358/360 Canadian Open 20 meter - 356/360 Canadian Championships 20 meter - 356/360 Canadian 900 round - 883/900 Canadian meter - 292/300 Tristan turned 12 this July and already has quite the trophy collection. He has in his collection of achievements, 5 national Gold medals, 2 national Silver and 2 national Bronze as well as numerous provincial Gold, to go along with the many medals, trophies, and plaques from local competitions. His goal is to represent Canada at world tournaments and to be a world champion. With his determination, talent, and confidence, he s well on his way to achieving his goals. Percy Green SASKATCHEWAN ARCHERY ASSOCIATION Publicity Director/ Magazine Editor PO BOX 114 OSAGE, SK S0G 3T0 PHONE: (306) saaarcher@yourlink.ca YOURS IN ARCHERY. A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR THIS BEING OUR FIRST PUBLICATION ON THE WEB; Began at the 2010 AGM, a motion presented by myself was passed were the SaskArcher would be edited and posted on the SAA Website instead of a hard copy being mailed to individual members household. For those members that do not have access to the Internet a hard copy would be mailed upon request to the Editor. The benefit include; saving the cost of printing and mailing ($ ) this also covers the cost of return of undeliverable magazines, it can be continuous and just not twice a year, it is in colour and is available around the world. This is something new to me, so it will take a while and a few errors to get it right. It can be used as a tool by the clubs that do not have their own website to let the Editor know and post what is happening around their clubs, under a heading CLUB NEWS. The weather has not been kind to some of the clubs this year having to tolerate cold, snow, rain and strong winds, with the exception of Wascana, Dundurn and the first few days at the provincials in Prince Albert. Personally I had to miss three of the shoots I would normally have attended. The vacancies on the executive were filled, that is, until the stepping down of our President, Robert Lakeman on November 1, So we have one more vacancy to fill. Our Vice President, Bill Steeves has too great a work load at his employment, consuming his evenings and weekends to take over the position. The Directors are looking into finding a interim President until the next AGM elections. This position requires the time, knowledge and the ability to do the job efficiently. There have been a few that have shown interest. The Operating Agreement between the Provincial Sport Organization the SAA and the Federation of Canadian Archers Inc. (FCA), at this printing has not been finalized. The FCA is proposing a substantial increase in membership fees, which will have to be passed on to the membership in the SAA and its clubs. As a sport, archery has been getting away pretty cheap, if you consider the cost of other sports; hockey, soccer or golf. Only if you are the elite in the sport of archery or getting there, does the cost accelerate. Travel and accommodations are the big cost of archery. The cost of one tank of fuel and a hotel room would pay for your Club and SAA membership. I am excited over the fact that Saskatchewan is hosting both the National 3D and the FITA Archery Championships. This will give many shooters, both young and old that have never competed in a national event the opportunity to do so. I have a feeling that we should have a record turnout. With the holiday season coming up there is not much in the line of competitions going on until into new year where we have a good list to occupy an archers time. So all you archers out there, on behalf of the SAA have yourself a; MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR Sincerely, The Editor

7 SAA Provincial Target FITA Archery Program 2011 Mike Kupchanko (Target/Field/High Performance Director As a member of the Target FITA Archery Program the SAA expects a commitment from the Archer to practice over and above the time set practices of their club. As a member you must be dedicated to improving your archery skills which also includes proper maintenance and repair of your equipment. The SAA expects members to take instruction and direction from their COACH and to RESPECT THEIR COACH at club level as well as any other officials. Be positive towards yourself, your teammates and your coach; conduct yourself as an Ambassador of Saskatchewan, the SAA, and the sport of Archery. In the event that a program participant attending a funded shoot does not act in accordance with the programs expectations, rules or regulations or brings disgrace to the program or the SAA, the said member will be transported back to Saskatchewan at his or her own personal expense. There is money set aside to help fund the SAA Provincial Target FITA Archery Program on their quest to the Canadian National FITA Championships. Below is a table which explains the funding portion of this money. If the Archer meets the SAA Provincial Target FITA Archery Program and qualifies for 100% funding it does not necessarily mean that their whole trip will be paid for. It all depends on how many archers are going and what % they have qualified for and what funds are available.
