2 , Wahroonga 29 th, 30 th September, 1 st October 2017 Carnival Rules 1. TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR: is appointed by Sydney Uni Men s Water Polo club who shall have absolute discretion to determine all matters and administer the tournament. ELIGIBILITY: players are to be born 2004 (except as otherwise specifically approved by an Event Organiser). 3. STARTING TIMES: scorecards must be completed and teams ready to commence at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time. Players are to enter the water for warm up with caps being worn. Due to the tight scheduling, games will commence strictly at scheduled times & after breaks regardless whether teams are ready if players are not already in the pool when whistle is blown to commence play then players are required to enter the field via the exchange box otherwise an incorrect exchange foul will apply and the player will be ejected. Coaches are responsible to ensure teams are ready to commence play at the scheduled start time and recommencement from breaks - referees are to issue yellow card to coaches who do not comply with this requirement. 4. CAPS & BALLS: the first named team shall wear white caps and start from the left side of the official table. Each team must supply a fully inflated, good quality match ball at the start of each game to the referees. 5. PLAYING CONDITIONS: this tournament will be played under rules for Junior & Youth level competitions as approved by FINA on seventh October 2014 and as adopted by Water Polo Australia as summarised below: 5.1 Length of Field 50 m pool split into 2 fields. Width may be narrowed by a lane rope on each side. 5.2 Number of Players maximum of six players including one goalkeeper participating in the pool at any time 5.3 Ball Size Size 4 (Women s) used by both Boys & Girls
3 5.4 Modified U14 Rules (adopted by WPA in 2014) these rules shall remain in effect except for the pressing rule, which no longer applies. These modified rules that will remain in effect are summarised as: The Tournament Director shall treat each occurrence on an individual basis and make a determination at his sole discretion without any precedents being established nor needing to be adhered to. Player Participation Coaches are to ensure wherever possible that all players receive roughly equal amounts of pool time throughout the tournament. This shall not necessarily apply to each game but to the entire tournament, thus allowing for greater competitiveness during close games. This will be left to the coach s discretion with equality and fair play considerations Exclusion Re- entry - on exclusion no timeframe is applied, the player must swim to the re- entry box, rise to the surface so that the head is fully above the surface of the water, within the box then re- enter Free Throw Shot - no shot on goal is allowed from a free throw The Swapping Rule will not be enforced during this competition. However, it is strongly advised that you share participation equally and fairly. 6. MATCH TIMES: All Games: 8- minute halves played at running time. No shot clock. The two pools will share the same game clock therefore with both pools commencing and finishing at the same time. 2 minutes allocated at half time, team will not swap ends. No Penalty Shoot Outs. 20 minutes allocated per game. 2 minutes warm up allocated. 7. POINTS: Win = 3 points, Draw = 2 points, Loss = 1 point. Forfeit/Disqualified = 0. In the event of a forfeit/disqualification the result will be 5 0 unless a match is played and the margin is greater. 8. POSITIONS: Will be decided on points. If two (2) teams shall have equal points, then FINA BL tie breaking rule shall apply as follows: 8.1 The team winning the game between the two (2) teams shall be placed higher. 8.2 If the game between the two (2) teams resulted in a tie, a further classification shall be established based on their results against the other teams in order of their ranking, first based upon goal difference, and next based upon goals scored. The comparison shall be made first, compared to the highest team, and then, if still tied to the next highest team, and so on. 8.3 If they are still tied, each team shooting five (5) penalty shots at its opponent s goal in alternate succession shall resolve the tie. The first team shall take its first penalty shot and then the other team shall take its first penalty shot, etc. If a tie shall exist after that procedure,
4 each team shall then take alternate shots until one team scores and the other missed. Different numbers of the team must shoot each shot. The procedure shall be conducted following the final game of that round or at the first practical opportunity. 9. If three (3) or more teams shall have equal points, further classification shall be established as follows. 9.1 Any time during the application of 8.2, when the number of the tied team is reduced to two 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3 shall apply be: The results among the tied teams shall determine the placing s. The comparison shall be made upon first, the points of the games among them, next the goal differences, and next based upon goals scored If more than two (2) teams are then still tied, a further classification shall be established based on their results against the other teams in order of their ranking, first based upon goal difference, and next based upon goals scored. The comparison shall be made first, compared to the highest team, and then, if still tied, to the next highest team, and so on Goal Difference shall be used for the purposes of deciding positions where teams have not played each other during the Tournament. 10. OTHER RULES: all other WPNSW & FINA rules apply. Any inconsistencies between rules exist the Tournament Rules shall prevail followed by WPNSW Rules. 11. APPEALS: There will be no appeals. The Albury born product attended Newington College (Stanmore) and represented Australia in Water Polo, travelling to Turkey to compete at the U18 World Championships in Recently he has enjoyed playing football back home in the Riverina. In early 2017 Nick suffered a spinal injury after a pool related accident at his 21 st Birthday party. After being airlifted to Alfred Hospital he was classified as a C4 quadriplegic, yet remains remarkably optimistic about his future. As he explained, he didn t completely sever his spinal cord and thus holds hope to make a substantial recovery. Currently, Nick is undergoing an intensive rehabilitation scheme, slowly but surely regaining strength and muscle coordination. New technologies such as the FES arm cycle and hydrotherapy have played a positive role in his recovery. Overall however it has been the inspiring support of his friends and family throughout his live changing year that have given him such strength. You can follow Nick in his road to recovery on his Facebook page; Nick s Journey. 18 On the Day Currently our hosts are undergoing construction near the pool and as a result it will be extremely difficult to find a good parking spot in Wahroonga. It is highly recommended that you park in the neighbouring suburb Warrawee, potentially in Borambil Street or near Warrawee Train Station. From there you will be able to enter the school through the Borambil gate and have a short walk along the driveway to the pool. Just a heads up!
