SOUTH CAROLINA THE MATCHUP Wake Forest returns home for a pair of games against foes from South Carolina, beginning with the Gamecocks on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. LAST TIME OUT The Demon Deacons earned their fourth-straight shutout, traveling to NC State for a 3-0 ACC win on Saturday night. Luis Argudo earned his third multi-goal game of the season, including the game-winner in the 58th minute. The Deacs received goals from Steven Echevarria at the 64:30 mark and Argudo at the 64:50 mark. The 20 seconds between goals is the fastest in program history in an ACC game and second-fastest all-time, behind only 16 seconds in 2014 (Jon Bakero/Hunter Bandy against Howard). Wake Forest extended its shutout streak to 448:53 dating back to the first half against Louisville on Sept. 9. The streak is the fourth of 300+ minutes under head coach Bobby Muuss. WAKE FOREST STORYLINES The Demon Deacons have one of the most prolific offenses in the nation to date this season. Wake Forest leads the nation with 26 goals, also ranking atop the country with 33 assists, 85 points and 8.33 shots on goal per game. Last year, it took the Deacs 19 games to reach 25 goals, compared to just nine this season. Three Demon Deacons have already totaled at least 10 points after only four did so all last year: Jon Bakero (19 pts - 5g, 9a), Luis Argudo (15 pts - 7g, 1a), and Brandon Servania (12 pts - 2g, 8a). Bakero ranks third in the nation in points, and leads the country in assists, one ahead of Servania. Bakero and defender Kevin Politz were named candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award, two of just three selected in the ACC. Jacori Hayes won the award a season ago. OPPONENT AND SERIES HISTORY Wake Forest leads the all-time series against South Carolina by a margin. The Deacs have won three-straight meetings and are over the last nine contests. Wake Forest earned a 1-0 win in Columbia last year and a 2-0 victory in Winston-Salem in The Gamecocks are overall this year, but in Conference USA and on the road. NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE A total of nine different Demon Deacons have experience competing on a youth national team or in a national team camp. Brad Dunwell, Omir Fernandez, Landen Haig, Mark McKenzie, Justin McMaster, Andrew Pannenberg, Kevin Politz and Brandon Servania have experience with the U.S. Youth National Teams. McMaster also spent time with the Jamaican Youth National Teams, as has Joey DeZart SUMMARY The Demon Deacons finished the 2016 season as the national runners-up, falling to Stanford in penalty kicks of the championship game, 5-4, after playing to a scoreless draw through 110 minutes of action. Wake Forest defeated Coastal Carolina, SIUE, Virginia Tech and Denver in the NCAA Tournament en route to the College Cup final. Wake Forest finished the season with a overall record. The Deacs claimed the ACC regular season and Tournament titles, finishing with a ACC record and beating Notre Dame, Louisville and Clemson in the ACC Tournament. STEERING THE SHIP Head coach Bobby Muuss got off to the best start for a coach in program history. Over his first 50 games, Wake Forest went in those contests. It added up to a winning percentage of.813. For comparison, George Kennedy s first 50 games from had the Deacs at (.570), Walt Chyzowych from went (.420) and Jay Vidovich from went (.560). Muuss also owns an record through his first 19 games as a coach in regular-season ACC play with the only loss coming against Clemson last season. Previous Wake Forest coaches did not have as much success early in their ACC careers as Kennedy went 5-14 through his first 19 ACC games, Chyzowych and Vidovich Muuss earned his 100th career win on Oct. 11, 2016 in the 1-0 victory over Marshall. WAKE FOREST IN ACC PLAY With the win on Sept. 16, 2016 at Duke, Wake Forest moved above the.500 mark all-time in conference play for the first time in program history.
