LAST TIME OUT >> Freshman Jon Bakero scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute to break a 1-1 tie on Friday night as Wake Forest defeated No. 22 Virginia 2-1. Virginia (9-5-1, ACC) had tied the game at 1-1 in the 81st minute but Bakero countered for the Deacons just two minutes later for his fi fth goal in the last three games. Philip Parker scored in the fi rst half in the eighth minute off an assist from Michael Gamble which held until the 81st minute when Virginia tied the game up off a goal from Patrick Foss. Bakero then struck two minutes later off a quick break set up by passes from Jacori Hayes and Ricky Greensfelder. WAKE FOREST STORYLINES >> Wake Forest won its fi rst game on the road on Friday against No. 22 Virginia, but more importantly rose in the ACC standings with 12 points headed into the last weekend of the regular season. The Deacons continue to operate one of the best offenses in the ACC and nation. Wake Forest leads in shots (264), goals per game (2.33), goals (35), points per game (7.40), assists (41) and assists per game (2.73). The Deacs rank fi rst in the nation in assists (41) and total points (111), second in assists per game (2.73) and in points per game (7.40), fourth in total goals (35) and fi fth in scoring offense (2.33). Wake Forest has 12 players this season with a goal and nine of those players have at least two goals. Michael Gamble is third in the NCAA Division I in assists (10), second in assists per game (0.71) and third in total assists (10. Jon Bakero is 13th in the nation in game-winning goals with four. WIN AT VIRGINIA >> Wake Forest broke a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute off a goal from Jon Bakero to defeat No. 22 Virginia in Charlottesville. He has scored the gamewinners in each of those games. He now has six goals on the season which is tied for the team-high. Four of his six goals have been game winners. CAN T STOP, WON T STOP >> Wake Forest s offense continued to operate at a historic level last Tuesday night. Just 17 seconds elapsed between Jon Bakero s goal in the second half and Hunter Bandy s goal. It was the shortest time between goals in school history, besting the previous mark of 21 seconds set in Jon Bakero became the fi rst Deacon since 2003 to score two goals in back-to-back games since Scott Sealy did it versus South Carolina and High Point. 2 GOOD SHOT >> Wake Forest had outshot every opponent this season except for Syracuse and Virginia. The Deacons racked up an astounding 37 shots against VMI, three short of the school record. POWER OF THE PASS >> Wake Forest leads the nation in assist with 41 and is second in assists per game with Not only that, just fi ve goals have been unassisted this year. DOZEN >> Jon Bakero and Michael Gamble have combined for 12 goals this season -- which ties the total goals Pitt has scored as a team in THE GAMBLER >> Michael Gamble s four goals against VMI were the fi rst for a Demon Deacons since 1983 when Mark Erwin had four against Davidson which was the only previous time a Deac has had four in a game. The last Deacon to have three goals was Sean Okoli who had a hat trick against NC State in It was the fi rst four-goal game by an ACC player since 2011 when Will Bates of Virginia had four. The time between Gamble s fourth goal and Hayden Partain s goal was 32 seconds which is the third quickest time between goals in school history. It was the shortest time between goals since 2007 when Cody Arnoux scored two goals within 33 seconds of each other against Davidson. Gamble was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week after he added an assist on Clemson, the game after VMI. HISTORIC SCORING >> Wake Forest scored seven goals against VMI which is the fi rst time the Deacs have scored seven since a 7-0 win over Dartmouth in the NCAA Tournament in The Deacons had 15 corner kicks which was two short of the school record 17. Wake Forest had 37 shots total in the contest which is three short of the school record set in PLAYER OF THE WEEK >> Michael Gamble was named the ACC Player of the Week on Sept. 9 after assisting on both goals against UConn including the game-winner in overtime along with tallying a goal and an assist in the win over Cleveland State. WHERE ARE THE COMING FROM? >> Wake Forest s prolifi c offense has several different goal scorers. With 20 players seeing action this season, 12 have scored a goal with a total of 13 players recording a point. Goal scorers have ranged from fowards (Gamble, Gent, Gauger), midfi elders (Parker, Bandy, Bakero, Harkes, Partain, Hayes, Odenbeck, Greensfelder) to defenders (Fink). Kris Reaves is the only player to have points come from just assists.

TRAINING WITH THE NATIONAL TEAM >> Ian Harkes and Jacori Hayes were named to the United States Under-20 National Team roster for the team s January training camp in January by head coach Tab Ramos. Harkes, Hayes and Kris Reaves later trained with the U-20 team in Raleigh in May. Hayes was named to the USMNT U-20 roster for the NTC Invitational in California in July and started one game. WINS OVER RANKED TEAMS >> Wake Forest played several ranked teams in 2013 and will continue to face a tough slate in the upcoming season. The highest win for Wake Forest last season was a 4-3 win over No. 4 Maryland in College Park. In 2012, Wake Forest defeated No. 1 Maryland at home. MLS ALL-STAR >> Michael Parkhurst was named to the MLS All-Star team this summer and started the game against Bayern Munich. TOP-10 RECRUITING CLASS >> For the third consecutive season, Wake Forest men s soccer s recruiting class has been ranked in the Top-10 nationally according to national outlets. The Demon Deacons recruiting class has been ranked No. 9 by TopDrawerSoccer.com and No. 8 by College Soccer News. Jay Vidovich, one of the top college soccer coaches in the country, enters his 21st season as head coach and 29th year overall at Wake Forest in The two-time National Coach of the Year and fi ve-time Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year has developed Wake Forest into one of the top soccer programs in the country, leading the team to four straight College Cups ( ), including the fi rst national championship in program history in Wake Forest has reached the NCAA Tournament in 12 of the past 13 seasons, including entering the tournament as the nation s top seed three times. In all, Wake Forest has captured fi ve ACC regular season championships and posted a record of over the past 13 seasons. Vidovich has been named ACC Coach of the Year fi ve times (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009) and was named National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2007 and Vidovich has an overall record of in his 19 years. Vidovich has also proven to be one of the top developers of talent in college soccer, placing numerous players in professional soccer leagues, both in America and overseas. At the start of the 2014 season, a total of 24 former Demon Deacons were playing professionally. Wake Forest has had 31 players taken in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, including 20 players taken in the last seven years. Of the 31 selections, 11 players have been drafted in the fi rst round, ranking second among all colleges, trailing only UCLA s 14 fi rst round picks.
