The Leopards are tied with Bucknell for seventh place in the standings, while the Mountain Hawks are just one game out of first place. The Bison, who at 1-6 in PL play are off to their worst start ever, will look to break a couple of streaks this weekend. Bucknell is in the midst of its first four-game losing streak since and are mired in a five-game conference losing skid for the first time since Lafayette, who beat Bucknell two weeks ago in Easton, Pa., could cure Bucknell s ills Friday since the Bison have defeated the Leopards 11 times in the last 13 meetings between the two teams. Bucknell s last loss to Lafayette at home came in Lehigh, who the Bison limited to 52 points, 13 below its season average, two weeks ago, will be the opponent on Sunday. 2 Bucknell Women s Basketball Notes vs. Lafayette/Lehigh - 2 About Lafayette About Lehigh Since defeating Bucknell two weeks ago at home, Lafayette has dropped four straight games, inclduing three Patriot League contests. No Leopards are averaging more than 10 points per game under fourth-year head coach Tammy Smith, with Lindsay Myers and Vanessa Van De Venter tied for the team lead at 9.2 points per game. Myers netted 15 in Lafayette s win over the Bison, but the Bucknell defense limited Van De Venter to just two points as only Myers scored at least 10 points in the win. That victory was just the second Patriot League win in the last two years for Lafayette. Bison Versus the Leopards Lafayette s victory over Bucknell on Jan. 21 broke an eight-game Bucknell winning streak in the series. The Leopards last victory over the Bison came Feb. 27, 2000 when they won at Davis Gym. Despite Bucknell winning 11 of the last 13, Lafayette holds the all-time edge in the series Lafayette is the most-played opponent in Bucknell history. After playing 10 of 12 games at home, Lehigh wraps up a four-game road trip against Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks, who are led by 10th-year head coach Sue Troyan, split their first two games on the road trip. They played at Colgate Friday night. With a 14-6 record entering the weekend, Lehigh already has more wins than all of last year, and entered the weekend with a 6-1 PL mark to stand one game behind league-leader Holy Cross. Jessica DePalo, who is leading the league in scoring at 18.5 points per game, and Sara Ellis, who is third at 15.4 points per game, will lead Lehigh on the offensive end. The duo combined for just 20 points in the first meeting between Bucknell and Lehigh two weeks ago. Bison Versus the Mountain Hawks With its win at home two weeks ago Lehigh knotted the all-time series at The Bison have dropped four of the last five meetings in the series. Bucknell s last win at home against Lehigh came in The Bison lost to Lehigh in the first-ever game at Sojka Pavilion. Geosits Sisters Sunday s game against Lehigh will feature a match-up of sisters Lindsey Geosits (Bucknell) and Emily Geosits (Lehigh). Lindsey, a junior, has started all 20 games for the Bison at point guard and is averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Emily, a sophomore guard, has appeared in eight games for the Mountain Hawks and played 25 minutes. Lindsey averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games against Lehigh last season. When the two teams met two weeks ago, Lindsey registered three points, three rebounds and five assists. Emily did not appear in the contest. 6-0 Start at Home With its win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 17, Bucknell improved to 6-0 at home. The start is the best since the squad won its first six games. Bucknell s best-ever home start came in when it finished the campaign 12-0 at Davis Gym. 3 Bucknell s Most Consecutive Home Wins to Start Sojka Success Bucknell opened Sojka (pronounced SOYka) Pavilion with a loss to Lehigh on Jan. 15, The Bison have posted an 18-8 (.692) record all-time in Sojka. Entering the campaign, Bucknell had a four-game home winning streak in progress. The Bison extended that streak to 10 with an victory over FDU in their sixth home game this season. The streak ended with a loss to American on Jan. 28. The Bison went 362 days in between losses at Sojka. Twelve of its 13 losses have come on weekend days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All seven victories have come during the week - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The lone loss during the week came to Bowling Green on Thursday, Dec. 30. It Takes Time to Warm Up Despite being outscored by 81 points this season (1,250-1,169), Bucknell has come up just 28 points short in the second half ( ). The first half has been the downfall for the Bison as the opponents hold a advantage in the first 20 minutes of play. The last four games, all losses, have signaled a reversal of the season-long trend. The Bison have led at halftime in two of the games, and were tied in another. They have outscored opponents by two points in the first half, but been outscored by 25 in the second half. Tough Road For the second consecutive season Bucknell opened Patriot League play with four of its first five games on the road. The Bison, who opened last year with a 2-3 record in their first five league games, compiled a 1-4 mark this season. Reversal of Fortune Bucknell is just 1-6 through the first half of its Patriot League schedule. The start marks the worst-ever open to the Patriot League slate for the Bison. Despite the disappointing record, there is hope on the horizon for Bucknell. Each of the last two years Bucknell has reversed its first-half record in the second half of the conference campaign. Last year the Bison started 2-5, but went 5-2 in the second half. Two years ago, after posting a 4-3 record through seven league games, PL Preseason Rankings PL Coaches/SID Poll 1. 4 Bucknell Women s Basketball Notes vs. Lafayette/Lehigh - 4 That figure easily eclipsed her career high of four, and gave her the most steals by a Bison since Desire Almind had eight swipes against Holy Cross Feb. 27, First Half Success Bucknell has led at halftime eight times this year and suffered its first defeat when leading after 20 minutes of play Jan. 21 against Lafayette. The Bison won their first six games when holding a halftime advantage, but are now 6-2 after having lost to Navy after holding a five-point halftime lead. Unselfish Geosits Junior guard Lindsey Geosits has a teamhigh 77 assists this year. For her career, she has 260 assists to rank eighth on Bucknell s career list. Geosits and Kathryn Hudock, who has one assist and no turnovers, are the only two Bison to have positive assist-to-turnover ratios. As a team, Bucknell has dished out 270 assists on 437 field goals (61.8 percent). Opponents have not been nearly as unselfish, registering assists on 251 of 456 field goals (55.0 percent). Tough Defense Bucknell s defense is allowing opponents to shoot just 37.8 percent from the field this year. The Bison have not held their opponents to that low of a percentage since the season when the opposition connected on just 37.6 percent of its field goals. Along with the low field goal percentage defense, Bucknell is allowing only 62.5 points per game. That figure is the lowest the Bison have allowed per game since the season when opponents averaged 61.7 points. Bucknell s PPG Allowed Year PPG Allowed Foster Rebounds Freshman Hope Foster ranks eighth in the Patriot League, and leads the team, in rebounding with 5.8 per game. The last freshman to lead the Bison in rebounding was Vicki Quimby, who averaged 7.4 boards per game in Great From the Line Bucknell is shooting 218 of 307 (.705) from the free throw line this year. Block Party Through 20 games Bucknell has blocked 84 shots as a team. If the Bison continue averaging 4.2 blocks per game they will finish the regular season with 113. That figure would rank as the most in the history of the program. Last year s squad tied the team for the top position with 106. Hope Foster leads this year s squad with 43 blocks (2.2 per game), which ranks first in the Patriot League. She already ranks second on the Bucknell single-season list. She also stands 10th on Bucknell s career list just eight behind Kirsten Ellison for ninth place. Through games of Jan. 31, Foster ranks 38th nationally in blocks, while Bucknell is 57th. Eight Straight 20-Point Performances vs. PL Sophomore guard Lindsey Hollobaugh scored 26 points against Colgate on Jan. 12. It marked the eighth consecutive game against league foes that Hollobaugh scored at least 20 points. That string was broken Jan. 15 against Army when she scored just 10 points. The Loganton, Pa., native has reached double figures in 22 of her last 24 games and is fifth in the Patriot League in scoring at 15.8 points per game. She has scored at least 10 points in 41 of 47 career games. 52-Point First Half The 52 points Bucknell scored in the first half of its victory over Iona on Jan. 3 were the most for the Bison since they tallied 56 points in a win versus Canisius Jan. 6, That game established a new Bucknell record for most points scored in a game. Low-Scoring Win Bucknell s 48 points in its victory over Akron Dec. 29 was its second-lowest point total in a victory since eighth-year head coach Kathy Fedorjaka took over prior to the season. The Bison defeated Navy Feb. 5, 2000 the only time they tallied less than 48 points in a victory during Fedorjaka s tenure. Only three other times in the 32-year history of the Bucknell program had the Bison won in games they scored less than 48 points. Two of those came in , while the other came during the campaign. Record-Tying Assists In its win over Iona on Jan. 3, Bucknell equaled a 29-year-old record with 28 assists on its 32 field goals. After scoring 16 points in the opener against Florida International, the Loganton, Pa., native needed just one point to reach the 500 mark. With 15:33 remaining in the first half against Texas A&M, the school s alltime freshman scoring leader made a jumper to even the score at 8-8 and give her 501 career points. Since that time Hollobaugh has increased her career point total to 775. Her 15.8 ppg career scoring average ranks fourth in Bucknell history. Preseason Accolades For Hollobaugh Sophomore guard Lindsey Hollobaugh was selected to the preseason All-Patriot League team in a preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. The Loganton, Pa., native was second on the team with 16.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a freshman. Her 483 points broke Molly Creamer s freshman scoring record of 475. Hollobaugh was the only non-senior to appear on the preseason all-league squad. The 5-9 Hollobaugh became the fourth Bison to be named Rookie of the Year in the Patriot League last year. Veteran Presence Seniors Emilie Barruet and tri-captain Amy Ketcham are the only two Bison in their fourth year with the program. Bucknell has four seniors on its roster, but Brooke Tomovich and Lillian Drumgold are in just their second years in orange and blue after transferring from Loyola (Md.) and UNC Wilmington, respectively. Tomovich played in all 29 games last year and was third on the team in scoring at 9.4 points per game. The 6-2 center connected on 15 of 38 3-point attempts to lead the team at 39.5 percent. Drumgold, who battled an injury during the preseason, brought a streak of 18 consecutive starts into this season. The 5-9 guard has provided valuable minutes off the bench so far this season. All-Time Start Chart Team Captains Seniors Amy Ketcham and Brooke Tomovich, along with junior Lindsey Geosits were chosen as team captains by their teammates prior to the season. It is the first time since Bucknell has had more than two captains. Up Next Bucknell travels to American and Navy next weekend for the last of four consecutive Friday- Sunday weekends. 11 Bucknell Women s Basketball Notes vs. Lafayette/Lehigh - 11 Head Coach Kathy Fedorjaka In her eighth year at the helm of the Bison, head coach Kathy Fedorjaka is now the longest-tenured mentor in the 32-year history of Bucknell s women s basketball program. Since arriving in Lewisburg, Pa., Fedorjaka has amassed a (.530) record. In her 12-year coaching career, the Groton, Conn., native has totaled a (.565) mark. She is the only Bucknell coach to pass the century mark in wins. The Patriot League Coach of the Year, Fedorjaka has recruited and tutored many of the best players in Bucknell history. Among the most prominent have been Molly Creamer and Desire Almind. Creamer, who was the first player in school or Patriot League history to get drafted into the WNBA when she was a first-round pick of the New York Liberty with the 10th overall selection in the 2003 draft, finished her career in 2003 with 22 school records and 13 Patriot League standards to her name. The only three-time Patriot League Player of the Year, Creamer scored 2,462 points in her career and, in addition to playing with the Liberty, has played professionally in Israel. She recently signed to play with the Lubbock Hawks of the National Women s Basketball League (NWBL) in Almind completed her four-year career in 2004 as the school s third-leading scorer and rebounder. She has played professionally in France, and recently joined Creamer in the NWBL. Led by that duo, which garnered seven all-league selections, Fedorjaka has seen her players show up on the first, second or rookie all-league teams 19 times. Fedorjaka has also tutored three of the last six rookie of the years in the league, including current sophomore Lindsey Hollobaugh, who won the award in CONTINUITY AT THE TOP Kathy Fedorjaka is among the most senior coaches in the Patriot League as she embarks on her eighth year at the helm of the Bison. Only Holy Cross Bill Gibbons and Lehigh s Sue Troyan have been head coaches in the league longer. Pat Flannery, the head coach of Bucknell s men s basketball team, is the dean of league coaches on the men s side as he roams the Bison sideline for his 11th season in Combined, Flannery and Fedorjaka total 19 years of Patriot League experience. Only Holy Cross Gibbons (15th season) and Ralph Willard (sixth season) form a more veteran combination among Patriot League schools. Wins Patriot League Coaches Name, School Yr. W L Pct.
