That was also the last time a pair of Bucknell players tallied 20 points in the season opener. HIGH-SCORING OPENERS: Bucknell s 85 points it totaled in its season opener against Hampton marked the most it had scored in the fi rst game of a season since the campaign. That year the Bison opened their season with a victory over Vermont. Bucknell went on to win 17 games that year. 12 Bucknell vs. Buffalo Game Notes HEAD COACH KATHY FEDORJAKA In her 10th year at the helm of the Bison, head coach Kathy Fedorjaka is the longesttenured mentor in the 34-year history of Bucknell s women s basketball program. Since arriving in Lewisburg, Pa., Fedorjaka has amassed a (.539) record. In her 14-year coaching career, the Groton, Conn., native has totaled a (.567) mark. She is the only Bucknell coach to pass the century mark in wins. The Patriot League Coach of the Year, Fedorjaka has recruited and tutored many of the best players in Bucknell history. Among the most prominent have been Molly Creamer and Desire Almind. Creamer, who was the fi rst player in school or Patriot League history to get drafted into the WNBA when she was a fi rst-round pick of the New York Liberty with the 10th overall selection in the 2003 draft, finished her career in 2003 with 22 school records and 13 Patriot League standards to her name. The only three-time Patriot League Player of the Year, Creamer scored 2,462 points in her career and, in addition to playing with the Liberty, has played professionally in Israel. She has played in the National Women s Basketball League (NWBL) in recent years. Almind completed her four-year career in 2004 as the school s third-leading scorer and rebounder. She has played professionally in France, and joined Creamer in the NWBL in Led by that duo, which garnered seven all-league selections, Fedorjaka has seen her players show up on the fi rst, second or rookie all-league teams 38 times. Fedorjaka has also tutored four members of the All-Rookie Team over the last two seasons. CONTINUITY AT THE TOP Kathy Fedorjaka is among the most senior coaches in the Patriot League as she embarks on her 10th year at the helm of the Bison. Only Holy Cross Bill Gibbons and Lehigh s Sue Troyan have been head coaches in the league longer. Pat Flannery, the head coach of Bucknell s men s basketball team, is the dean of league coaches on the men s side as he roams the Bison sideline for his 13th season in Combined, Flannery and Fedorjaka total 23 years of Patriot League experience. Only Holy Cross Gibbons (17th season) and Ralph Willard (eighth season) form a more veteran combination among Patriot League schools. PATRIOT LEAGUE COACHES CAREER WINS Name, School Yr. W L Pct. 13 Bucknell vs. Buffalo Game Notes Lindsey Hollobaugh scored a game-high 22 points and Hope Foster just missed a rare triple-double with 20 points, 16 rebounds and a school-record eight blocked shots, leading Bucknell to a season-opening victory over Hampton The Bison got off to a terrifi c start in this one but had to sweat things out down the stretch as Hampton used an aggressive full-court press to cut what was once a 22-point defi cit down to four in the fi nal minute. Bucknell shot 54.5 percent from the fl oor in the fi rst half and parlayed 16 Hollobaugh points into a seemingly commanding lead at intermission. The advantage grew to 22 points early in the second half after a crowd-pleasing fl urry that saw Foster reject three straight shots on one Hampton possession, followed by a Kesha Champion transition 3-pointer at the other end. Over the next four minutes they pressured the Bison into seven turnovers and scored 11 straight points after the Champion three. Six different players scored during that run, with Stephanie James free throw making it Foster s short jumper off a pretty touch pass from Lauren Schober ended a Bison scoring drought that lasted almost fi ve minutes, and Bucknell was able to maintain a double-fi gure lead until the 6:13 mark, when Ashlee Finley made a pair of free throws to pull Hampton within nine at A 3-pointer from Rachel Butler - one of only two treys the Pirates would hit all night in 13 attempts - made it a five-point game at with 1:03 left. But the Bison, and Amanda Brown in particular, turned things around at the charity stripe. Brown hit six straight and 7 of 8 free throws in the fi nal minute. A 3-point play from Butler actually brought Hampton as close as four with 24 seconds left, but Foster pulled down a rebound and canned two free throws with 11 seconds left. Brown s 3-pointer 39 seconds into the game gave the Bison their fi rst points of the season, and Bucknell never trailed in the fi rst half while getting just about any shot it wanted. The Bison shot 54.5 percent from the fl oor in the opening 20 minutes. Hollobaugh made all three of her 3-point tries and the team hit 5 of 10 from downtown in building a big lead. Foster s monster night was all the more impressive considering she had only four points, six rebounds and two blocks at halftime. She had a double-double in the second half alone, logging 16 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. SAINT JOSEPH S 63, BUCKNELL 56 GAME 2 NOV. 12, 2006 ALUMNI MEMORIAL FIELDHOUSE PHILADELPHIA, PA. Whitney Ffrench scored a game-high 21 points and was 9-for-13 from the free throw line as Saint Joseph s handed Bucknell its fi rst loss of the year, Hope Foster paced the Bison with 19 points. The contest was close throughout, although the Hawks were able to open up a nine-point lead (41-32) early in the second half as Bucknell committed fi ve of its 15 turnovers in the opening fi ve minutes of the half. Bucknell stormed back from the defi cit, its largest of the game, to take a lead on a short jumper by Foster, but the lights in the arena failed, causing a 15-minute delay. The Hawks came out of the delay on a 10-6 run, which included four points by 6-feet, 4-inch Zoya Pavlovskaya, who tallied all eight of her points and nine of her game-high 13 rebounds in the second half. Saint Joseph s clung to a lead late in the game when Kesha Champion missed a 3-pointer from the corner with 3:18 on the clock that would have knotted the score. The Hawks then tallied the next four points and converted 6 of 8 free throws, including four by Timisha Gomez, in the fi nal minute to seal the game. The fi rst half was close the entire way as neither team built a lead larger than six despite long scoreless droughts for each. Bucknell built its largest lead of the fi rst half early behind a short hook shot in the middle of the lane by Foster and a 3-pointer from the right win in transition by Hollobaugh that forced a Saint Joseph s timeout with the Bison leading The Hawks later put together an 8-0 run to take a edge until Champion ended a 6:30 scoreless stretch for Bucknell with a foul line jumper over an outstretched hand. The Bison then limited Saint Joseph s to just one fi eld goal over the fi nal 6:45 of the half to take a lead into halftime as Ffrench tallied fi ve of her points on a fi eld goal and three foul shots in the fi nal minutes of the frame. Bucknell struggled with foul trouble throughout as Champion, Lindesy Hollobaugh, and Jacquie Seawright each fi nished with four fouls. The Hawks went to the line 23 times compared to just four times for the Bison. In addition to her 19 points Foster hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, while she also blocked fi ve shots, giving her 13 in just two games this season. Hollobaugh chipped in 15 on efficient 7 of 11 shooting, while Brown tallied 12 points and fi ve rebounds. Andrea Wright was the lone Bison bench player to score as she scored two points in the fi rst half on a short jumper.
