KEY STORYLINES Xavier, 19-3 overall and 7-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, won its fourth straight game with an victory over Marquette on Jan. 24 at Cintas Center. Xavier, 19-3, is one win shy of recording its 12th 20-win season in the last 13 years and its 20th 20-win season in the last 22 years. Xavier is No. 6 in the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll, XU's ninth straight week in the top 15 of both major polls, including seventh in nine weeks in the top 10. Xavier is No. 3 in the latest NCAA Official RPI ( ), one of four BIG EAST schools in the top 30 and one of seven BIG EAST schools in the top 50. Xavier's J.P. Macura, who is second on the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg. (21st in the BIG EAST), is 24th on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,328 points. Xavier senior Trevon Bluiett, who is seventh in the BIG EAST in scoring at 18.9 ppg., scored 13 points vs. Marquette on Jan. 24, giving him exactly 2,000 career points for his career. He is the fifth 2,000-point scorer in Xavier history. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett is getting plenty of midseason national honors: Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and Midseason Second Team All-American (NBC and Sporting News). Xavier sophomore Quentin Goodin is second in the BIG EAST Conference in assists at 5.3 apg. and third in assist-to-turnover ratio at Xavier ninth-year head coach Chris Mack is XU's all-time wins leader at Xavier, a 2017 NCAA Elite Eight team, has made it to at least the Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 years, one of only nine schools that can say that. 4 THE XAVIER-ST. JOHN'S SERIES: Xavier leads the series 7-3, including five straight wins over the Red Storm. XU is 7-2 vs. St. John's since the two teams became BIG EAST rivals in the season. XAVIER WON THE FIRST MEETING THIS SEASON IN CINCINNATI: Xavier recorded an win over St. John's on Jan 17 at Cintas Center. Xavier got two 20-point efforts in the St. John's win, including 23 points from senior Trevon Bluiett and 22 points to go with 13 rebounds from graduate transfer Kerem Kanter, the brother of N.Y. Knicks standout Enes Kanter. SJU hit its first 11 shots in the second half. FIRST IN SERIES WORTH NOTING: Xavier and St. John's met in the season opener as a Lou Carnesecca-led SJU squad beat XU in the first round of the 1981 Lapchick Memorial Tournament (SJU on ) at what was then called Alumni Hall. Current St. John s head coach Chris Mullin was a freshman guard playing his first game on that SJU team. XAVIER WON THE MEETING IN NEW YORK LAST SEASON DESPITE SUFFERING A MAJOR LOSS: Xavier won the game over St. John's last season at Madison Square Garden (XU on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017) but in the process lost star point guard Edmond Sumner to a seasonending torn ACL injury in the second half. Then-freshman Quentin Goodin stepped up with a career-high 16 points and took over the point for Sumner, who scored 17 points. FOR THE RECORD (ST. JOHN'S): St. John's, overall and 0-10 in the BIG EAST Conference, is coming off a loss at Butler on Saturday VISION: Xavier, 19-3, is one win shy of recording its 12th 20-win season in the last 13 years and its 20th 20-win season in the last 22 years. FOR THE RECORD (XAVIER): Xavier, 19-3 overall and ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll, is 7-2 in the BIG EAST Conference after winning its fourth straight game, on Jan. 24 at Cintas Center. Xavier led the entire game behind a balanced scoring attack with five double-figure scorers led by sophomore Quentin Goodin, who scored 15 points and dished off five assists. Senior Trevon Bluiett contributed a double-double with 13 points and a gamehigh 10 rebounds to go with five assists. In addition, Bluiett reached 2,000 points for his career on a jumper with 7:11 left in the second half. XU dominated the first half and stretched the lead to as many a 26 points before rolling to the 19-point win and completing the regular season sweep of Marquette. 2,000 AND COUNTING: Senior guard Trevon Bluiett scored 13 points vs. Marquette on Jan. 24, giving him exactly 2,000 career points for his career. He is the fifth 2,000-point scorer in Xavier history, joining Byron Larkin (2,696 from ), David West (2,132 from ), Romain Sato (2,005 from ) and Tyrone Hill (2,003 from ). BIG ROAD WIN AT SETON HALL IN THE LAST ROAD TEST: Xavier, 4-2 in true road games this season, erased a 10-point second-half deficit on its way to capturing a win at then-no. 19 Seton Hall on Jan. 20. The Pirates led with under 18 minutes left and still led by five, with 6:44 left. Senior J.P. Macura, who scored a game-high 27 points, hit a 3-pointer to start a 15-3 run and an offensive rebound and dunk that ended it. XU had control of the game at with 1:28 left. XU outscored SHU 21-7 over that final 6:43. TOP 10 IN THE POLLS: Xavier is in the top 10 of both major polls. Xavier is No. 6 in this week's Associated Press Poll and No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which is up from No. 8 in the AP Poll and No. 8 in the coaches poll last week. This week s rankings mark Xavier's ninth straight week in the top 15 in both major polls, including its seventh week in the last nine among the top 10 in both polls. RANKINGS: PASSING FANCY: One big reason for the solid offensive numbers is that Xavier is second in the BIG EAST and 10th in the nation in assists at 17.7 apg. To put that in perspective, Xavier's school record for a season is 74.9 percent ( ). Even more impressively, Xavier is shooting 81.8 percent in the last five minutes of games and 89.0 percent in the last two minutes of games. Two Musketeers are ranked in the top 15 in the BIG EAST in free-throw shooting: Senior J.P. Macura (tied for 10th at.833) and senior Trevon Bluiett (14th at.811). Graduate Sean O'Mara (.854), sophomore Quentin Goodin (.843) and junior Kaiser Gates (.800) don't have enough free throws made to earn a BIG EAST ranking. Xavier is second in the nation in free throws made at 397.

5 BOARD CHAIRMEN: Xavier is ranked first in the BIG EAST and 12th in the nation in rebound margin at 7.6 rpg. Xavier has four players averaging 4.9 rpg. or more this season. Xavier has won the rebounding battle in 20 of its 22 games this season. BLUIETT AND MACURA ARE CLIMBING XAVIER'S ALL-TIME SCORING LIST: Senior guard Trevon Bluiett is in fifth place on Xavier's all-time scoring list with 2,000 career points and is just six points away from passing Tyrone Hill (2,003 points from ) and Romain Sato (2,005 points from ) and taking over the third spot. Senior guard J.P. Macura has moved up to 24th place with 1,328 points, including his efforts in these wins: gamehigh 27 at Seton Hall on Jan. 20, gamehigh tying 19 vs. Baylor on Nov. 28 and 20 points at Wisconsin on Nov. 16. MIDSEASON NATIONAL RECOGNITION IS POURING IN FOR BLUIETT: Senior guard Trevon Bluiett was named recently to the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, which is the United States Basketball Writers Association award for college basketball's national player of the year. Xavier graduate David West won the award in This was the latest in a list of midseason awards for Bluiett, who is also on the midseason watch list for The Wooden Award. Bluiett was named midseason Second Team All-American by NBC Sports and Sporting News. ALL-AMERICA AND NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE: Xavier senior Trevon Bluiett is on the watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy (USBWA's National Player of the Year), John R. Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Julius Erving Award, the Lute Olson Award and the Senior CLASS Award. Bluiett earned preseason All-America honors: second team honors from Sporting News, NBC Sports and Athlon Sports and third team honors from ESPN, CBS Sports, Street & Smith's, Blue Ribbon Basketball and College Sports Madness. In addition to those, he earned the 12th-most votes for AP preseason All- American. 6 PLENTY OF BIG EAST HONORS FOR BLUIETT: Senior guard Trevon Bluiett, First Team All-BIG EAST and All-BIG EAST Tournament two years in a row, was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a sixth time this season for his efforts in the win over Marquette on Jan. 24 with 13 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and a game-high tying five assists. In addition, he became the fifth member of Xavier s 2,000-point club. He earned the honor Jan. 2 for his efforts in the wins at Marquette on Dec. 27 and vs. DePaul on Dec. 30, averaging 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. Bluiett earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a third straight week after scoring 18 points, including the gamewinner with seven seconds left, in XU's win over ETSU on Dec. 16. Bluiett won the honor on Dec. 11 after averaging 25.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game in Xavier wins over Kent State on Dec. 6 and Colorado on Dec. 9. Bluiett has earned a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll spot on Jan. 2, Dec. 18, Dec. 11, Dec. 4 and Nov. 13 in addition to being named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 20. In addition to the honor on Dec. 11 from the conference office, Bluiett was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Bluiett scored 38 points in a pair of Xavier wins over then-top 20 foes in Baylor and Cincinnati to earn the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll spot on Dec. 4. He was BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 20 for his heroics in the win at Wisconsin on Nov. 16; he hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 66-all followed by two 3-pointers to give XU the lead for good at Bluiett scored 25 points, including 12 in the final 2:25. BLUIETT IS LOOKING TO JOIN AN IMPRES- SIVE BIG EAST LIST: Senior guard Trevon Bluiett, two-time First Team All-BIG EAST, is looking to become just the 13th player in BIG EAST history to make the BIG EAST First Team three times. MACURA WAS THE BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior guard J.P. Macura was named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 22. Macura averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in Xavier wins over St. John s on Jan. 17 and at Seton Hall on Jan. 20. Macura shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field, including 60 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point territory, for the two games. Macura scored a season-high 27 points and came up with numerous big plays at both ends of the court in the win at Seton Hall. His 27-point effort is just one point shy of his career high. MACURA HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR: Senior guard J.P. Macura is second on the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg. (21st in the BIG EAST), including 27 points at Seton Hall on Jan. 20 and 16 points vs. St. John's on Jan. 17. Macura posted 20 points and four assists vs. Butler on Jan. 2 on the heels of a team-high 19 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and four steals with zero turnovers vs. DePaul on Dec. 30. Macura had a game-high tying 19-point effort in the win over Baylor on Nov. 28. That followed his 23-point game vs. Arizona State on Nov. 24. Macura leads the team and is fifth in the BIG EAST in steals at 1.5 spg. and is second on the team in assists (11th in the BIG EAST) at 3.3 apg., including a five-assist game vs. Creighton on Jan. 13. 7 GOODIN IS SECOND IN THE BIG EAST IN ASSISTS: Sophomore guard Quentin Goodin is second in the BIG EAST Conference in assists at 5.3 apg.and third in the in assist-to-turnover ratio at Goodin scored a team-high 15 points (one shy of his career high) in the Marquette win on Jan. 24, including hitting 3-of-3 3-pointers, to go with five assists and three rebounds. Goodin has a free-throw percentage of 84.3 percent, including 6-of-6 in the final minute at UNI on Dec. 22 and 4-of-4 in the final five minutes at Marquette on Dec. 27. Goodin had a 10-point game at Providence on Jan. 6, a 12-point game in the Butler win on Jan. 2 and a 12-point, four-assist game vs. DePaul on Dec. 30. Goodin, who had 10 points and five assists at Marquette on Dec. 27, tied his career high with nine assists to go with zero turnovers in the win over Baylor on Nov. 28 and he posted six assists and no turnovers vs. Kent State on Dec. 6. GATES HAS PROVIDED A BIG BOOST OFF THE BENCH: Junior forward Kaiser Gates has given Xavier a boost off the bench the last four games with 10.5 ppg., while shooting 59.1 percent (13-of-22). Gates, who now has 10 double-figure scoring games this season, had only six doublefigure scoring games in 33 games as a sophomore. Gates, who started 17 of the first 18 games this season, came off the bench for the first time this season on Jan. 13 vs. Creighton and contributed 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with eight rebounds and two steals and followed that up with 11 points, including 3-of-3 3-point shooting, vs. St. John's on Jan. 17. Gates scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Butler win on Jan. 2. Gates grabbed a career-high tying 10 rebounds against Cincinnati on Dec. 2 to go with 10 points, recording his first career double-double. He had a career-high 19-point game vs. Baylor on Nov. 28 on the strength of a career-high five 3-pointers. Gates leads the team in 3-point shooting percentage, hitting 44-of-99 for 44.4 percent, which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST. Gates, who is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.9 ppg., is 13th in the BIG EAST at point field goals per game. KANTER HAS BECOME A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR: Xavier graduate transfer forward Kerem Kanter has averaged 11.6 ppg. and a team-high 6.2 rpg. in BIG EAST Conference games, including 22 points and a Xavier career-high tying 13 rebounds vs. St. John's on Jan. 17 at Cintas Center. Kanter scored a game-high and collegiate career-high 24 points at Providence on Jan. 6, including 19 in the second half. Kanter, who hit 10-of-15 field goal attempts at PC, also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to lock up a double-double. Kanter, who is second on the team in rebounding for the season at 5.5 rpg. (17th in the BIG EAST), followed up the Providence effort with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting at Villanova on Jan. 10 and 12 points and eight rebounds in a starting role vs. Creighton on Jan. 13. Kanter posted the first double-double of his Xavier career with 16 points and a Xavier career-high 13 rebounds vs. Marshall on Dec. 19. Kanter scored 17 points vs. Cincinnati on Dec. 2. O'MARA SHOWING LEADERSHIP: Graduate forward Sean O'Mara scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting vs. Creighton on Jan. 13 to go with four rebounds and three assists. O'Mara posted 10 points vs. Butler on Jan. 2 to go with six rebounds, three assists and a career-high four blocks. O'Mara has hit 60-of-95 (.632) from the field. O'Mara has hit 35-of-41 (.854) of his free-throw attempts. O'Mara had a season-high tying 14 points in the win over Marshall on Dec. 19. O'Mara had eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the ETSU win on Dec. 16. O'Mara has scored in double figures in seven games, including a season-high 14 points on 5-of- 6 shooting vs. Kent State on Dec. 6. KEEPING UP WITH JONES: Sophomore forward Tyrique Jones grabbed five rebounds and three steals in 15 minutes of action at Seton Hall on Jan. 20. Jones scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds at Providence on Jan. 6. He had 12 points at Marquette on Dec. 27, while hitting 5-of-6 from the field. Jones has scored in double figures in eight games; by comparison, he had only half that many double-figure scoring efforts (four) in 37 games played as a freshman. Jones posted the first double-double of his collegiate career with 14 points and a careeer-high tying 11 rebounds vs. Marshall on Dec. 19. Jones had back-to-back double-figure scoring games with 11 points vs. Colorado on Dec. 9 and 13 points in the win over Kent State on Dec. 9 on 6-of-6 shooting from the field. Jones is third on the team in rebounding at 5.3 rpg. (20th in the BIG EAST), including his career-high tying 11-rebound games vs. Marshall on Dec. 19 and George Washington on Nov. 23. Jones is third in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (.657). He is fifth on the team in scoring at 8.1 ppg. Jones scored a careerhigh 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field vs. Rider on Nov. 13. MARSHALLING IN A NEW ERA... ANOTHER BIG EAST HONOR: Freshman Naji Marshall has been named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week for a second time in the month of January after contributing 10 points, three rebounds and four assists to Xavier's win over Marquette on Jan. 24. Marshall was also named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week on Jan. 15 after averaging 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for Xavier's two games the previous week, at Villanova on Jan. 10 and vs. Creighton on Jan. 13. Marshall had 10 points vs. Creighton on Jan. 13 after a 13-point game at Villanova (all of which came in the second half). Marshall, who now has eight double-figure scoring games this season, posted an 11-point game at Marquette on Dec. 27. Marshall, who made his first collegiate start vs. Marshall on Dec. 19, posted a career-high 15-point game vs. East Tennessee State on Dec. 16 where he hit 5-of-6 from the field to go with five rebounds and two assists. Marshall posted an eight-point, six-rebound game vs. Butler on Jan. 2 and contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 12 minutes of action vs. Baylor on Nov. 28. Marshall had 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting in 21 minutes in the Morehead State win on Nov. 10. MACK IS XAVIER'S ALL-TIME WINS LEADER: Xavier head coach Chris Mack captured his 203rd win at his alma mater on Jan. 17 vs. St. John's, taking over the top spot on Xavier's all-time wins list. Mack is now in his ninth year at the helm, which surpasses the previous leader and the head coach when Mack was an XU player, Pete Gillen. Gillen had 202 wins ( in nine seasons from ). MACK IS IN EXCLUSIVE COMPANY: Xavier head coach Chris Mack, a 1992 Xavier graduate, is the 32nd active coach in NCAA Division I to take over as his school's alltime wins leader. What makes his situation even more unique is the fact that he is one of only three that are the active wins leader at their alma maters. Jim Boeheim (Syracuse) and Scott Cross (UT Arlington) are the only other ones on top of the alltime wins list at their alma maters.

8 STREAK CAME TO AN END: Xavier had a 10-game winning streak snapped at Providence on Jan. 6. The 10-game win streak was XU's second-longest win streak under ninth-year head coach Chris Mack. Xavier won 12 straight to start the season. SOME PERFECT TRENDS: Xavier is 17-0 when it allows less than 80 points this season, 13-0 when senior Trevon Bluiett leads the team in scoring and 9-0 when five or more players score in double figures. TIME SHARE: Nine of Xavier's scholarship players are averaging at least 14.8 minutes per game this season. IRON MEN: Xavier senior Trevon Bluiett has played in 129 games, which ranks 12th all-time in Xavier history, while senior teammate J.P. Macura has played in 128 games, which ranks tied for 13th. The school record is 137, which is shared by Dante' Jackson ( ), B.J. Raymond ( ) and Kenny Frease ( ). Bluiett's 123 career starts are just seven shy of the school record (130 by Romain Sato from ). Bluiett and Macura have won 94 games so far at Xavier, including six NCAA Tournament games. XAVIER WON THE ANNUAL CROSSTOWN SHOOTOUT IN CONVINCING STYLE: Xavier recorded an win over then-no. 11 Cincinnati on Dec. 2 in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout in front of a Cintas Center record standing room only crowd of 10,817. The Musketeers have now won four of the last five meetings with UC and eight of the last 11. Xavier jumped out to a 21-5 lead and was never seriously threatened by its intracity rival. XU led by 23 points, 60-37, with a little over 13 minutes left. Senior Trevon Bluiett led all scorers with 28 points. MUSKETEERS ROLLED OVER BAYLOR: Xavier recorded a win over then-no. 16 Baylor on Nov. 28. Xavier jumped out to a lead but Baylor battled back to within a point, 30-29, with four minutes left in the first half. Xavier led at halftime and with 11:42 left. Baylor chipped the lead down to five points, 61-56, with 7:32 left but could get no closer. Senior J.P. Macura and junior Kaiser Gates tied for game-high scoring honors with 19 points each. Gates set new career highs for points (19) and 3-pointers (5). XAVIER HAS BUILT AN IMPRESSIVE NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Xavier made the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, defeating No. 6 seed and Big Ten runnerup Maryland 79-65, No. 3 seed and ACC runner-up Florida State and No. 2 seed and Pac-12 Champion Arizona to reach the West Regional Semifinal. Xavier has now made it to at least the Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 years, one of only nine schools that have been to at least six since 2008: Kansas (7), North Carolina (7), Michigan State (7), Wisconsin (7), Xavier (6), Louisville (6), Duke (6), Arizona (6) and Kentucky (6). Xavier played in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament and its 11th in the last 12 years; only eight schools have been to at least 11 of the last 12 tournaments: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Michigan State and Wisconsin are at 12, while Xavier, North Carolina and Villanova are at 11. BASKETBALL TIMES HONORS XAVIER PROGRAM AGAIN IN 2017: The Xavier men's basketball program is tied with Florida for 15th in the new Basketball Times rankings of the best NCAA men's basketball programs. Every five years since 1997, Basketball Times has evaluated the best of the best NCAA programs with rankings that are based on five categories: winning percentage, NBA players, federal graduation rate, U.S. News and World Report academic reputation and program cleanliness. Xavier was ranked 21st in the last rankings back in CHRIS MACK RADIO SHOW: Xavier's Hall of Fame radio play-by-play team of Joe Sunderman and Byron Larkin, who are in their 20th season together, host the weekly Chris Mack Radio Show, which airs live this season from Delicio Coal Fired Pizza at University Station. XAVIER ADDED A FOURTH MEMBER TO THE RECRUITING CLASS: Head coach Chris Mack, who signed three during the fall signing period, added another member to the recruiting class in December. Mack announced that he has received a signed scholarship agreement from Evan Boudreaux, a 6-8, 220-pound forward from Lake Forest, Ill., who enjoyed two standout seasons at Dartmouth before sitting out this season to concentrate on academics. Boudreaux is scheduled to graduate from Dartmouth in the spring and will have two years of eligibility at Xavier beginning with the season. Boudreaux, a two-time USBWA All-District I Team pick and two-time All-Ivy League Second Team selection, led the Ivy League in rebounding as a sophomore at 9.5 rpg., while ranking second in scoring at 17.5 ppg. Boudreax scored in double figures in 26 of 27 games, including 23 points at Boston College. His team-high 15 double-doubles included 14 points and 11 boards at eventual Atlantic-10 champion Rhode Island. Boudreaux burst onto the scene as a freshman at Dartmouth, earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors after finishing second in the league in scoring at 17.7 ppg. Keonte Kennedy, an ESPN.com four-star recruit and the No. 25 ranked shooting guard in the nation, averaged 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a junior. 22 SEDLER FAMILY MEN S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH Xavier ninth-year head coach Chris Mack recorded his 203rd career win as the Xavier head coach on Jan. 17 vs. St. John's, taking over as his alma mater's all-time wins leader. Mack, who is coaching his 300th game vs. St. John's on Jan. 30, now has a (.686) record. Mack, 48, has strong ties to all of the other Xavier head coaches that have reached 100 career wins at XU: Pete Gillen (202 in nine seasons from ), Skip Prosser (148 in seven seasons from ) and Sean Miller (120 in five seasons from ). Mack played under Gillen and then-gillen assistant Prosser and he worked on the staffs of Miller at Xavier and Prosser at both XU and Wake. XAVIER PLAYER AND GRADUATE Mack, a 1992 Xavier University graduate with a degree in communication arts, was a two-time team captain as a player at Xavier under then-head coach Pete Gillen. He won an MCC Regular Season Championship at 12-2 and reached the second round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament.
