THE X FACTORS Xavier is playing in its third Elite Eight, including 2004, 2008 and Xavier has made it to at least the Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 years, one of only nine schools that have been to at least six since Xavier is playing in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament and its 11th in the last 12 years; only eight schools have been to at least 11 of the last 12 tournaments. Xavier eighth-year head coach Chris Mack has led XU to seven NCAA Tournaments in eight years, including four Sweet 16 appearances. This is his first Elite Eight. Xavier is 8-1 this season in neutral site games. Xavier, 24-13, has its fourth straight 20-win season and its 11th in 12 years. Xavier junior Trevon Bluiett, First Team All-BIG EAST and All-BIG EAST Tournament, leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 18.7 ppg. and is 10th in rebounding at 5.6 rpg. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett has 19 games with 20 points or more this season, including all three NCAA games. He has averaged 25.0 ppg. in this year's NCAA Tournament. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett is 15th on XU's all-time scoring list with 1,575 points, while fellow junior J.P. Macura is 50th with 1,036 points. Xavier's J.P. Macura is 2nd on the team in scoring (16th in BIG EAST at 14.3 ppg.). Xavier freshman Quentin Goodin has averaged 5.5 apg. for his 16 straight starts at point guard, including a career-high nine assists in the NCAA win over Maryland. Xavier senior Malcolm Bernard scored a career-high 15 points in the win over Arizona, all of which came in the second half. He added six rebounds. Xavier junior Sean O'Mara has been XU's second-leading scorer in the NCAA Tournament at 12.3 ppg.; XU is 8-1 this season when O'Mara scores in double figures. 3 2017 NCAA ELITE EIGHT GAME NOTES THE XAVIER-GONZAGA SERIES: Gonzaga leads the series 3-1, including a win in the last meeting, a victory over Xavier in the season at Cintas Center ( ). XU and Gonzaga met in the 2006 NCAA First Round in Salt Lake City with the Bulldogs coming out on top, ( ). JESUIT SPOTLIGHT GAME: The nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS) project uses Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit Catholic education. Xavier is one of the 28 Jesuit schools, as is Gonzaga and Xavier's fellow BIG EAST Conference members Creighton, Georgetown and Marquette. The nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project highlights games between men s and women s teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the U.S. SUCCESS VS. HIGH SEEDS: In NCAA history, only two teams have won their first three games vs, top six seeds, LSU (1986) and Xavier (2017). XU has defeated No. 6 Maryland, No. 3 Florida State and No. 2 Arizona to earn its spot in the West Regional Final. Xavier has never beaten a No. 1 seed but its win over Arizona on Thursday was its second win over a No. 2 seed. XU defeated No. 2 seed Mississippi State in the 2004 Second Round as part of its run to the Elite Eight. ELITE AGAIN: Xavier is playing in its third NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and its first since 2008 when it lost in a West Regional to Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and No. 1 seed UCLA in Phoeniz, Ariz. XU also advanced to the Elite Eight in 2004 where it fell to No. 1 seed Duke in the Atlanta Regional Final. XAVIER VS. NO. 1 SEEDS: This marks the sixth time that Xavier has played a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Xavier has made eight all-time appearances in the Sweet 16: 1990, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and NCAA TOURNAMENT ELITE COMPANY: Xavier has made 11 of the last 12 NCAA Tournaments and 15 of the last 17. Only eight schools have been to at least 11 NCAA Tournaments in the last 12 years: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Michigan State and Wisconsin are at 12, while Xavier, North Carolina and Villanova are at 11. XAVIER'S NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Xavier, all-time in the NCAA Tournament, was 1-6 in NCAA play prior to 1990 but is from 1990-present. XU lost to the eventual National Champions in the first round in 1988 (Kansas) and 1989 (Michigan). Xavier is making its 27th alltime appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2017, which includes 17 at-large berths and 10 automatic berths (MCC and A-10). POSTSEASON TRADITION: Xavier is making its 30th postseason appearance in the last 35 years ( ). That span includes 26 NCAA Tournament appearances, including four straight, 11 of the last 12 and 15 of the last 17 NCAA Tournaments. XU only made the NCAA field one time (1961) before the season. MACK IS AN NCAA TOURNAMENT SUCCESS STORY: Eighth-year head coach Chris Mack has four more NCAA Tournament wins (10) than any Xavier head coach in program history. Mack has led Xavier to the NCAA Tournament seven times in his first eight seasons. He is the first XU head coach to lead XU to four Sweet 16s (2010, 2012, 2015 and 2017), twice as many as any other XU coach, and now has his first Elite Eight. Mack also has the distinction of having won NCAA Tournament games as a head coach, an assistant coach and a player at his alma mater. Mack won an NCAA game in 1993 as an XU senior. MACK IS SECOND ON XAVIER'S CAREER WINS LIST: Eighth-year head coach Chris Mack, who is in his eighth season at the helm, has recorded a (.674) mark so far, which is good for second on Xavier s all-time wins list. He trails only Pete Gillen (202 wins in nine seasons from ) in overall wins. Mack, who played under Gillen at XU, made history last season when was selected as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Henry Iba Award winner as National Coach of the Year, Xavier's first-ever national coach of the year. He also earned that honor from CBS Sports and Basketball Times. BIG EAST IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT... SEVEN NCAA BERTHS IN 2017: The BIG EAST Conference has earned 22 NCAA Tournament berths in its first four years in the current 10-team configuration, including seven in The BIG EAST had five in 2016, six in 2015 and four in Nine of the 10 schools in the BIG EAST have earned at least one NCAA berth in the past four seasons: Xavier (4), Villanova (4), Providence (4), Butler (3), Seton Hall (2), Creighton (2), Georgetown (1), St. John s (1) and Marquette (1). SEEING 20-20: Xavier, 24-13, has secured its fourth straight 20-win season, its 11th in 12 years and 19th in 21 years. NEUTRAL SITE SUCCESS: Xavier is 8-1 this season at neutral site venues, including three wins and a championship at the Tire Pros Invitational in Orlando, a 2-1 mark at the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York, a 2-0 mark in the NCAA first and second round games at Amway Center in Orlando, and the win on Thursday in the Regional Semifinal. FOR THE RECORD (XAVIER): Xavier, overall and 9-9 in the BIG EAST regular season, is a No. 11 seed in the NCAA West Region and is coming off a thrilling win over No. 2 seed Arizona on Thursday, equalling the highest seed that Xavier has ever beaten in the NCAA Tournament. Xavier trailed by eight points, 69-61, with 3:44 left but finished the game on a 12-2 run, including the game-winner from junior Sean O'Mara with 40 seconds left. Junior Trevon Bluiett, who finished with a game-high 25 points, hit a 3-pointer and a couple big free throws during the run. Senior Malcolm Bernard, who scored all 15 of his career-high point total in the second half, also contributed a 3-pointer and a couple big free throws during the decisive 12-2 run. (Xavier trailed with 2:52 left and XU outscored UA 9-0 to finish the game.) The win avenged Xavier's loss to Arizona in a 2015 Sweet 16 matchup. XAVIER ROLLED OVER ACC RUNNER-UP FLORIDA STATE: Xavier record an impressive win over No. 3 seed Florida State in the NCAA Second Round in Orlando on March 18. Xavier won handily using strong defense, holding FSU to 40 percent shooting, and efficient offense, shooting 55.6 percent from the field and recording 20 assists on its 30 field goals. Junior Trevon Bluiett led all scorers with 29 points, including 21 in the second half. Freshman Tyrique Jones hit 6-of-7 from the field on a his way to 13 points in 17 minutes of action. 4 2017 NCAA ELITE EIGHT GAME NOTES XAVIER DEFEATED MARYLAND : Xavier recorded a win over No. 6 seed Maryland in the NCAA First Round in Orlando on March 16. Xavier trailed with under 16 minutes left and with 13 minutes left. That's when XU put together a 14-0 run to take the lead back and take control of the game for good at with nine minutes left. Junior Trevon Bluiett fueled the run with three 3-pointers, while sophomore Kaiser Gates also contributed a trey. Bluiett finished with a game-high 21 points, including 18 in the second half. Junior Sean O'Mara came up big with a career-high 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 free throws to go with seven rebounds. Freshman Quentin Goodin contributed nine points, five rebounds and a career-high and Xavier NCAA record tying nine assists. BLUIETT HAS COME UP BIG IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: Junior Trevon Bluiett has averaged 25.0 ppg. for Xavier's three wins in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, including 21 (18 in second half) vs. Maryland, 29 (21 in second half) vs. Florida State and 25 (18 in the first half) vs. Arizona. Bluiett has shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46) from the filed, including 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from 3-point range in the NCAA games. O'MARA HAS BEEN BIG FOR XAVIER IN THE 2017 NCAA TOURNAMENT: Junior Sean O'Mara has been Xavier's secondleading scorer during the NCAA Tournament at 12.3 ppg., while hitting 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the field and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the free-throw line. O'Mara scored in double figures in both of the first two games, including a career-high 18 in the Maryland win and 11 in the Florida State win. O'Mara scored eight points vs. Arizona, including the game-winner with 40 seconds left. RARE NCAA STARTS FOR XAVIER FRESHMEN: Xavier has started two freshmen (Quentin Goodin and Tyrique Jones) for all three of this year's NCAA games, only the second time that Xavier has started two freshmen in any NCAA Tournament game. Then-freshmen Justin Doellman and Justin Cage started all four 2004 NCAA games, helping XU reach its first-ever NCAA Elite Eight. POSTSEASON IMPROVEMENTS: Xavier is shooting 52.9 percent from the field, including 46.4 percent from 3-point range, for its three NCAA games compared with its season averages of 46.0 and 34.9 respectively. XAVIER DEFEATED BUTLER IN THE BIG EAST QUARTERFINALS: The Musketeers recorded a win over Butler (NCAA No. 4 seed) on March 9 in the BIG EAST Tournament. Xavier trailed by seven points, 49-42, with under eight minutes left. Junior Trevon Bluiett led the comeback with 17 of his game-high 23 points coming in the second half, including the jumper with 17 seconds left that gave XU the lead for good at Senior Malcolm Bernard contributed 12 points, a Xavier career-high 10 rebounds and a Xavier career-high tying four assists. CLOSE CALLS: Xavier, which defeated Arizona on Thursday, has compiled a 6-2 record this season in games decided by four points or less. XU won over Seton Hall on Feb. 1 and at Creighton on Feb. 4. Xavier's other close wins include Wake Forest, 69-65, on Dec. 17. Xavier had only two of its 34 games last season decided by four points or less. In fact, XU had only one of its 30 regular season games last season decided by less than seven points, the win over Creighton at Cintas Center (3-5-16). BLUIETT IS IN THE TOP 15 ON THE XAVIER ALL-TIME SCORING LIST: Junior guard Trevon Bluiett, who scored 21 points vs. Maryland on March 16, 29 vs. Florida State on March 18 and 25 vs. Arizona on March 23, has moved up to 15th place on XU's alltime scoring list with 1,575 career points. Bluiett, who became a member of XU's 1,000 Point Club in the UNI game on Nov. 20, is 21 points shy of the next target on the list, 14th place Stan Kimbrough (1,596 from ). Bluiett's 655 points this season rank fifth-best all-time for Xavier single season scoring totals. MACURA IS ALSO IN THE XU 1,000 POINT CLUB: Junior J.P. Macura scored a gamehigh 22 points in Xavier's game on March 10 vs. Creighton at the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden, pushing him past 1,000 points for his career. Macura now has 1,036 points and stands No. 50 on the XU career scoring list. BIG MINUTES FOR MUSKETEER DUO: Junior Trevon Bluiett is first in the BIG EAST in minutes played at 35.0 mpg. and junior J.P. Macura is fourth at 33.4 mpg.

5 2017 NCAA ELITE EIGHT GAME NOTES Bluiett missed most of the Villanova game on Feb. 11 and all of the Providence (Feb. 15) and Marquette (Feb. 18) games due to an ankle injury. BOARD CHAIRMEN: Xavier is second in the BIG EAST Conference and 19th in the nation in rebound margin (+6.3 rpg.). XU has outrebounded 29 of its 37 opponents this season, including (22-5 in offensive rebounds) vs. Villanova on Feb. 11. The rebounding numbers also include a advantage on Dec. 3 at Baylor with an 18-8 offensive rebounding edge. Senior RaShid Gaston leads Xavier in rebounding at 5.9 rpg. (sixth in the BIG EAST) and offensive rebounding at 2.4 per game (third in the BIG EAST) in 18.4 minutes per game. Bluiett averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists for Xavier's three games. MACURA MADE A BIG JUMP FROM HIS SOPHOMORE YEAR: Junior J.P. Macura, projected by CBS Sports to be one of the nation's top 20 breakout players before this season, has averaged 14.3 points per game (second on the team and 16th in the BIG EAST Conference) and has 31 doublefigure scoring games this season. Macura, who had 22 points vs. Creighton on March 10 and 14 points vs. Arizona on March 23, posted a 22-point game at Seton Hall on Feb. 22, a 23-point game at Georgetown on Dec. 31 and a 20-point game vs. Georgetown on Jan. 22. He leads the team in steals per game at 1.4 spg. (ninth in the BIG EAST), while standing second on the team among active players in assists at 2.9 per game, including a career-high seven vs. Villanova on Feb. 11. Macura leads the team and is ninth in the BIG EAST in freethrow shooting at 78.6 percent, including a streak of 20 straight free throws made to start the season. Macura averaged a teamhigh 19.0 ppg. for Xavier's three games in the Tire Pros Invitational in Orlando in November, including a career-high 28 points on the strength of a career-high six 3-pointers to go with five assists and three steals in the win over Clemson on Nov. 18. Macura was named to the Tire Pros Invitational All-Tournament Team. STARTING NEW: Junior J.P. Macura, the BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year, has started each of the first 37 games (the only Musketeer to have started all 37 games). He started four last season. Firstyear senior Malcolm Bernard has started 34 games. Junior Sean O'Mara started the first eight games (first collegiate starts), senior RaShid Gaston has started 18 times, while freshman Tyrique Jones has made his first collegiate starts in 12 of the last 17 games. The only two returning starters were junior Trevon Bluiett and sophomore Edmond Sumner, although Sumner has now been lost for the rest of this season and Bluiett missed two games and the majority of a third game late in the season with an injury. Freshman Quentin Goodin made his 17th collegiate start (16th straight) vs. Arizona on March 23 and sophomore Kaiser Gates has made four starts this season. GOODIN STARTING WELL: Freshman guard Quentin Goodin, has averaged 5.5 assists per game since taking over the starting point guard spot over the last 16 games, including a career-high nine assists in the NCAA win over Maryland on March 16. Goodin was tied for fourth in the BIG EAST Conference in assists for league games at 3.8 apg. and was second in the BIG EAST in assist/turnover ratio for league games at 2.2. Goodin had eight assists at Seton Hall on Feb. 22 and on Feb. 18 at Marquette. His assist/turnover ratio for all games (1.8) ranks fifth in the BIG EAST. Goodin, who scored 11 points vs. Creighton on March 10, contributed 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds vs. Butler on Feb. 26. Goodin had 15 points, five assists and a career-high five steals at Creighton on Feb.

PASSED 1,000 CAREER POINTS: Senior forward RaShid Gaston, who transferred to Xavier from Norfolk State, is third in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage at 59.2 percent, including hitting 8-of-10 at Providence on Feb. 15 on his way to game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds, while scoring a Xavier careerhigh 23 points on Feb. 11 vs. Villanova on 10-of-13 shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds. Gaston leads the team and is sixth in the BIG EAST in rebounding at 5.9 rpg. and also leads the team in offensive rebounding at 2.4 per game (third in the BIG EAST). Gaston grabbed a game-high and career-high 17 rebounds to go with 12 points vs. Creighton on Jan. 16, an effort which included an XU career-high nine offensive rebounds. Gaston, who has posted a team-high seven double-doubles in scoring-rebounding this season, contributed back-to-back double-doubles with a 14 rebounds to go with 11 points in the Utah win on Dec. 10 and 14 points to go with 11 rebounds, while hitting 7-of-8 shots from the field, on Dec. 7 at Colorado. Gaston, who scored 14 points in the Wake Forest win on Dec. 17, scored 12 points, had a game-high tying 10 rebounds and blocked four shots on Nov. 17 vs. Missouri. Gaston has scored 1,186 collegiate points, including three seasons at Norfolk State. BIG EAST HONORS FOR BIG MAN GASTON: Senior forward RaShid Gaston earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 13 after averaging 18.5 ppg. and 7.5 rpg. for two games, while shooting 76.2 percent from the field. GATES HAS BEEN A BIG FACTOR IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: Sophomore forward Kaiser Gates, has been Xavier's fourth-leading scorer for the two games in the NCAA Tournament at 9.3 ppg., while hitting 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field, including 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from 3-point range. He has scored in double figures in two of the NCAA games, including an 11-point game vs. Maryland on March 16 and a 14-point game vs. Florida State on March 18 on 5-of-6 shooting, including a career-high tying four 3-pointers out of five attempts. Gates, who had 11 points and seven rebounds at Marquette on Feb. 18, grabbed a career-high and game-high 10 rebounds in the win over DePaul on Feb. 8. Gates scored 13 points on the strength of 3-of-4 3-point shooting to go with eight rebounds vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 1 and had nine rebounds at Creighton on Feb. 4. JONES MAKING HIS PRESENCE FELT: Freshman big man Tyrique Jones, who has started 12 games including all three NCAA Tournament games, scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting vs. Florida State on March 18. Jones is ranked second on the team in offensive rebounding at 1.6 rpg., which ranks 13th in the BIG EAST despite logging 11.0 minutes per game. Jones, who had a 13-point game at Marquette on 6-of-8 shooting, has hit 42 of his last 60 shots from the field (70.0 percent) over the last 14 games. Jones hit 8-8 from the field at Creighton on Feb. 4 for a career-high 16 points against heralded Bluejay big man Justin Patton. Jones, who had a 13-point game at Marquette on 6-of-8 shooting, grabbed a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds vs. Buffalo on Nov. 14. Jones contributed 10 points vs. St. John's on Jan. 7 to go with five rebounds and two blocks. JONES ENJOYED A PERFECT SHOOTING DAY AT CREIGHTON: Freshman Tyrique Jones hit 8-8 from the field at Creighton on Feb. 4 for a career-high 16 points. Bernard scored 13 points to go with five rebounds at DePaul on March 4. It marked his third straight game with 13 points. Bernard posted 13 points and a career-high tying three steals and four rebounds vs. Butler on Feb. 26 and followed that up with 13 points to go with five rebounds vs. Marquette on March 1. Bernard had 12 points in the win over Georgetown on Jan. 22 and 10 points with eight rebounds at Butler on Jan. 14. Bernard, who has started 34 of the first 37 games, contributed 10 points in the St. John's win on Jan. 7 on 4-of-4 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers. O'MARA ENJOYED A CAREER NIGHT ON MARCH 16: Junior Sean O'Mara has been Xavier's second-leading scorer during the NCAA Tournament at 12.3 ppg., while hitting 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the field. O'Mara scored in double figures in two games, including a career-high 18 in the Maryland win on March 16 on 5-of-6 shooting to go with a game-high seven rebounds and 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks vs. Florida State on March 18. O'Mara scored eight points, including the game-winner with 40 seconds left, against Arizona on Thursday. O'Mara had 10 points and four rebounds in the Butler win on March 9 in the BIG EAST Tournament. In fact, four of O'Mara's 10 double-figure scoring games this season have come in the postseason. Xavier is 9-1 this season in games when O'Mara scores in double figures, including 3-0 in the postseason. O'Mara scored 14 points on Feb. 18 at Marquette to go with five rebounds and a career-high three blocks. O'Mara came up big in the Feb. 1 win over Seton Hall with 11 points and five rebounds in 14 minutes of action. O'Mara came up big with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with five rebounds vs. Missouri on Nov. 17. O'Mara is shooting 62.3 percent for the season, including 84.6 percent in the NCAA Tournament. 7 2017 NCAA ELITE EIGHT GAME NOTES SUMNER ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY: Xavier team doctor Dr. Robert Burger confirmed on Jan.30 that sophomore guard Edmond Sumner, a preseason First Team All-BIG EAST selection by the league coaches, suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury in his left knee in Xavier s game vs. St. John s on Jan. 29 at Madison Square Garden. Sumner had successful surgery on March 1. SUMNER STOOD OUT: Sophomore Edmond Sumner, a preseason First Team All-BIG EAST selection by the league coaches, led Xavier in assists at 5.0 apg. Sumner dished off a career-high tying nine assists with zero turnovers vs. Eastern Washington on Dec. 20. Sumner was second on the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg., including a team-high 16.9 ppg. in BIG EAST play. He was also second on the team in steals at 1.3 spg. Sumner scored all of his game-high 22 points in the second half at Butler on Jan. 14, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Sumner had a careerhigh 28 points with eight rebounds and six assists in the Georgetwon win on Dec. 31. CONSISTENT CONFERENCE SUCCESS: Xavier, 9-9 in the BIG EAST regular season, has recorded 35 straight seasons at.500 or better in conference play (MCC, Atlantic 10 and BIG EAST).
