On Friday the Blue Devils will play Towson at 5 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. game vs. Monmouth on Saturday and then a 2 p.m. game vs. Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils will play three games in three straight days for the first time since the first three games of the season. Central played Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Davidson in a three day span at Michigan to open that season. Last Time Out Sophomore Matt Mobley scored a team-high 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor but Central Connecticut dropped a decision at Maryland on Monday night. The game was the first for the Blue Devils in this weekend s NABC College Basketball Experience Hall of Fame Classic. Sophomore Khalen Cumberlander added 11 points and five rebounds in the loss. The Blue Devils trailed by 12 at halftime before Maryland shot 60 percent from the field after halftime and scored 55 points. Season Openers Central Connecticut is now 9-10 in season openers under head coach Howie Dickenman. Alltime in Division I the Blue Devils are in season openers. Series History vs. Towson: Towson Leads 4-0 This is the fifth overall meeting between the two programs, but the first since the season. Towson holds a 4-0 edge in the series. The two teams met twice during the season and twice more in , when both teams were members of the East Coast Conference. Towson won by an average of more than 20 ppg in the four wins. Series History vs. Monmouth: Monmouth Leads This is the 33rd overall meeting between the two programs and Monmouth leads the series The Blue Devils have won four of the last five in the series, including the last meeting, 78-58, in West Long Branch during the season. Head coach Howie Dickenman is all-time vs. Monmouth and 7-9 on the road. Series History vs. Bethune-Cookman: First Meeting This is the first meeting between the two programs.

2 Mobley s Start Sophomore Matt Mobley has started his sophomore season with games of 30 and 24 points, both better than his previous career-high of 22 scored last season on the road at Wagner on Jan. 23. It s not the first time that Mobley has produced for the Blue Devils. He averaged 6.8 points per game as a rookie and scored 10 or more points 11 times in his first season. Mobley had a stretch in the middle of the season when he scored in doublefigures in seven of eight games, averaging 13.1 points per game during that stretch. Mobley Efficient Mobley is averaging 27.0 points per game early in the season, and has done so by shooting well from the field. He is 18-of-35 from the floor, good for 51.4 percent. He is also 5-of-12 from three (41.7 percent) and 13-of-14 from the line (92.9 percent). Mobley From the Line Mobley is 13-of-14 from the line this season, and dating back to he has made 35 of his last 38 attempts from the line. In his career he is 50-of-56 from the line. McMillan and Drakeford Named Captains Seniors Malcolm McMillan and Faronte Drakeford have been named captains for the season by head coach Howie Dickenman. Drakeford was an All-Conference selection a year ago, and started all 30 games last season. McMillan started 27 games last year and has made 85 career starts for the Blue Devils in his first three seasons. McMillan s Assists Senior captain Malcolm McMillan enters tonight s game with 327 career assists, good for eighth all-time in CCSU history. He is two assists away from matching Rich Leonard (329) for seventh alltime on the list. Peel s Blocks Junior Brandon Peel led the team in blocks with 61 last season, the sixth-highest single season total in school history. In his first two seasons Peel has blocked 79 shots, putting him just out of the top-10 in CCSU history. He now has 80 blocks in his career. Drakeford Third Team Senior captain Faronte Drakeford was named to the Northeast Conference Third Team a year ago after averaging 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 30 games played. He started and played in every game in his first season with the Blue Devils. Drakeford averaged 14.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in league play, averaging 26.9 minutes played per game. On the Road The Blue Devils will play their first eight games away from Detrick Gym this season, prior to opening the home portion of their schedule on Dec. 10 vs. UMBC. Following a trip to Rider on Dec. 3, Central will play its next eight games in the state of Connecticut, including five home games and games at Hartford, UConn and Sacred Heart, on Jan Straight NEC Tourneys The Blue Devils have qualified for 16 straight Northeast Conference men s basketball tournaments. That is the longest active streak in the conference. Central did not qualify for the tournament in its first year of membership, but has qualified each year since. Dickenman in Overtime The Blue Devils played the 30th overtime game under head coach Howie Dickenman at LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 27, 2014, and won for the 21st time (86-82). In his 18 seasons Dickenman is 21-9 in overtime games. Central Connecticut in the Northeast Conference Central Connecticut has posted a record (.602) in NEC regular season play over the last 12 seasons (19-1 in , 12-6 in 02-03, 9-9 in 03-04, 8-10 in 04-05, 13-5 in 05-06, 16-2 in 06-07, 10-8 in 07-08, 8-10 in 08-09, 9-9 in 09-10, 11-7 in , 10-8 in , 9-9 in , and 7-9 in ). They are (.685) at home and (.529) on the road. History - 1,069 Wins This season marks the 78th season of Blue Devil basketball. Central s first year of competition was the season under coach Harrison J. Kaiser, whom the athletic building is named after. Central carries an overall record of 1,069 wins and 839 losses for a.560 winning percentage. Central and the Three-Point Shot Straight Entering today s game, the Blue Devils have hit a three-point shot in 531 consecutive games (a school record). The last time CCSU did not hit a three-point shot was February 29, 1996 at the University of Missouri-KC in a loss. Blue Devils Picked to Finish Second in NEC Coaches Poll The Central Connecticut men s basketball team was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released earlier this season. The Blue Devils received three first place vote in the poll and were second behind St. Francis Brooklyn. 3 CCSU RADIO NETWORK For the 17th straight season, CCSU men s basketball will air on WPOP in Hartford, now known as Fox Sports Radio The Blue Devils have added a second station, ESPN Radio 1300 in New Haven, to create the CCSU Radio Network. The contract between CCSU and the stations runs through This year the voice of the Blue Devils will once again be Bruce Biel. The color commentary will be handled for the 11th straight season by Marc Robbins. For the 13th straight season the Central men s basketball broadcasts will be available online. Fans can log on to FoxSportsRadio1410.com to listen online or on your smartphone using iheartradio.com. Biel has been the voice of the Blue Devils since his days as an undergraduate student at Central Connecticut. He holds the distinction of calling the school s first-ever Division I contest in Biel also called the school s first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament game in March of He was also a broadcaster for the New Britain Red Sox from Biel is the former sports director of the campus radio station, WFCS. He is a 1988 graduate from Central Connecticut with a Bachelor s Degree in communication. He was inducted in the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame in Robbins joins the Blue Devils for his 11th season as the color analyst. He is currently a sports anchor at WFSB, Channel 3, in Hartford and is formerly sports anchor at News 8 (WNTH) in New Haven, CT. Robbins spent several years as a broadcaster with Fairfield University for both their men s and women s basketball programs. He previously spent five years as a sports anchor at News 12 Connecticut which broadcasts throughout Southern Connecticut. 4 CCSU ALL-TIME LEADER IN WINS william DETRICK 12 varsity letters earned as a student-athlete 468 wins Former head men s basketball coach Bill Detrick passed away in the Fall of 2014 after having been affiliated with CCSU for 68 years. He was 87 years old. For 29 seasons, Detrick was a staple on the sidelines for the Blue Devils. During that time he became the school s alltime leader in wins posting 468 victories. Detrick s resume is long and impressive, but perhaps the most impressive thing about Detrick was his connection with Central Connecticut and its basketball program. Detrick s time at Central Connecticut began as a player where he became the only student-athlete to earn 12 varsity letters in his undergraduate career. His No. 4 jersey is retired by the University and his four-year record as a player was He was a co-captain of the squad that finished the year Detrick was also a star on the football field and baseball diamond for the Blue Devils. In football, Detrick set several school records as a punter. In baseball, Detrick finished his career at Central and went on to play professionally for several seasons. Detrick left his mark on the University as the men s basketball coach. The gym, where he won so many of his record-breaking victories, now bears his name and has become a home for one of the top programs in the East region in the last several years. Detrick, who was inducted into the first-ever class of the CCSU Hall of Fame, coached six teams that were selected to play in the NCAA Division II Tournament. His and teams were undefeated in the regular season. His team set a then school-record with 26 victories, only one behind the new school-record set by the squad with 27 wins. Detrick received the President s Distinguished Service Award and has a combined high school and college coaching record of In his 29 years as the head coach at Central, Detrick s teams finished with winning records 24 times. He posted seven 20-win seasons and 19 seasons with 15 or more wins.
