4 Mission Statement The NJSIAA, a private, voluntary Association serves its student-athletes, members schools and related professional organizations by the administration of education-based interscholastic athletics, which support academic achievement, good citizenship and fair and equitable opportunities. We believe that member schools, along with their leagues and conferences, share these convictions: A safe and healthy playing environment is essential to our mission. Participation in interscholastic athletics enhances the educational experience of all students. Interscholastic athletics is a privilege. Excellence in both academics and athletics is pursued by all. Interscholastic participation develops good citizenship and healthy lifestyles, fosters involvement of a diverse population and promotes positive school/community relations. Rules promote fair play and minimizes risks. Cooperation among members advances their individual and collective well-being. Training of administrators and coaches promotes the educational mission of the interscholastic experiences. Properly trained official/judges enhances interscholastic competition. The NJSIAA is the recognized state authority on interscholastic athletic programs. The NJSIAA is composed of 435 member high schools. It provides more than 255,000 student-athletes opportunities to participate in nearly 3,000 games, workshops, clinics and other NJSIAA-sponsored activities within a given year. The NJSIAA offers more championships for its student-athletes than any other state in the nation: For Boys: Cross-Country, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Bowling, Fencing, Ice Hockey, Swimming, Diving, Indoor Track Relay Championships, Indoor Track Individual Championships, Wrestling, Baseball, olf, Lacrosse, Outdoor Track Championships, Tennis, and Volleyball. For irls: Cross-Country, Field Hockey, ymnastics, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Bowling, Fencing, Swimming, Diving, Indoor Track Relay Championships, Indoor Track Individual Championships, olf, Lacrosse, Softball, and Outdoor Track Championships. Competitive athletics is nothing more than playing according to a set of rules. Sports are the greatest example on earth of the practical application of the olden Rule. Your support and encouragement of our high school sports program are earnestly invited.

Junior Sydney Morang and sophomore Katie Kinum have been a lethal onetwo punch for New Providence throughout the season. But with the roup 1 championship on the line late in the fourth quarter, the two were guarded tightly and other players for the Pioneers needed to step up and knock down some shots in crunch time. Sarah Zeto and Emily Molstad did just that, helping the Pioneers take down Haddon Township to capture the NJSIAA ShopRite roup 1 title. It s the first state championship for New Providence since 2011 But on Sunday, the Pioneers had to earn the title victory the hard way, withstanding a monstrous comeback by Haddon Township in the second half. After holding the lead for most of the game, New Providence found itself down with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter following a basket by Haddon Township s Morgan Lenahan. Following that shot by Lenahan, though, Zeto, who scored six points and added eight rebounds, evened things up at two minutes later and the Pioneers retook the lead at following a bucket by Molstad. Molstad scored eight points and added six rebounds

Westwood worked the ball around, waiting for a shot, and more importantly, keeping the ball out of Manasquan s hands. By slowing the tempo down. But Manasquan stayed patient and didn t force the issue. And when it had the opportunity to force a turnover or push the ball of a rebound, it did. And the Warriors displayed an effective attack from its half court sets to stay with the slower tempo. While the game may have seemed out of reach, Westwood made things interesting over the final quarter, cutting to within 10 points with about four minutes to play. Manasquan puts extra emphasis on the first four minutes of the second half on every game, looking to swing momentum and take control. The Warriors did that against Westwood before taking their foot off the gas, leading to less focus and the lead slipping. Stephanie Karcz finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Eagles, who also got a balanced effort from the rest of the rotation. It didn t take long for Middletown South and Old Tappan to show the type of physical battle the two would have in the roup 3 final. On the opening tip, players dove for a loose ball on the ground, followed by some pushing on both sides. That play quickly set the tone for 32 minutes of intensity. She s the first to admit that. And during Sunday s roup 4 championship game against No. 20 Shawnee, that was on full display. The senior guard finished with a season-high 14 points, helping the Warriors capture a state title and a trip to the Tournament of Champions. Jackson led the team in scoring, highlighted by her clutch free-throws in the final minute to help secure the victory. Jackson s timely play is nothing new, Franklin head coach Audrey Taylor said. Alex has the confidence to play like that on any given night, Taylor said. I ve seen this out of her and I m not shocked or surprised. Entering Sunday s contest, Jackson was averaging six points per game. She more than doubled that against the Renegades

Lebron proceeded to draw a charge on the next play, giving St. John Vianney the ball back and a chance to expand its lead. Kelly Campbell knocked down four free throws over the next two trips to cap off a 13-0 run late in the fourth quarter. Jordan Wilmoth hit a 3-pointer to pull Immaculate Heart within two points with 31 seconds left, but Zoe Pero and Campbell each hit one free throw to seal the victory.

On Saturday afternoon, the team from Belmar defeated Lodi Immaculate 56-49, capturing the NJSIAA/ShopRite Non-Public B championship. Led by the play of senior sharpshooter Kat Phipps, who finished with 25 points and six rebounds, the Purple Roses used a mighty run in the first half to take control of things and didn t let up in the second half. Down 15-9 in the first quarter, St. Rose looked out of sorts offensively and the Blue Wolves were looking strong. However, the Purple Roses ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 16-5 lead. Phipps scored all seven points for St. Rose during that stretch. In the second half, the Purple Roses continued their hot shooting and withstood a late charge from Lodi Immaculate. The Blue Wolves cut their deficit to with less than a minute to go, but clutch free-throw shooting by St. Rose down the stretch helped them secure the win. This included some big free throws from Jess Louro, who finished with 15 points and four rebounds.
