Issue SSC High School Boys Try-Outs The Springfield Soccer Club is pleased to announce its High School Boys Team Tryouts will be held November 22-23, Teams will be formed for Under 15, 16, 17, 18/19 age groups. As in previous years it is expected that SSC teams will participate in the Midwest Regional League and some of the nation s elite college showcase events. Past showcase events have included; Showcase of the South, Metro United College Showcase, GIT Showcase, Score at the Shore, Disney Showcase, adidas final iv showcase, and the TSC Sam Shannon Showcase. Along with competing in the top showcases and regional leagues it is the goal of the Springfield Soccer Club to place players into the collegiate level. This is done by providing a high level of training both on and off the field in order to make this goal a reality. Our teams at the High School Boys age groups have had much success competing on the field. No other club attends the level of showcases we do, nor do any of them compete in the Midwest Regional League. But the one area we are most proud of is the number of players that are continuing their academic and soccer careers at the college level. said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club. To register for the club tryouts please visit for the online registration process. Springfield Soccer Club Mailing Address: 1325 W. Players Have Success at USYS Region II ODP Camp Two players from the Springfield S.C. 93/94 Boys team recently returned from the USYS Region II 1994 ODP Camp held in Rockford, IL with great success. Reid Harbach and Austin Hart both competed in the Regional Camp held for players born in 1994 from the Midwest 14 State Associations. Their Missouri ODP team competed in daily matches and from those matches players were selected to train with the Regional ODP Staff Coaches. At the conclusion of the camp the Regional ODP Staff Coaches select players to be included in the Region II ODP Pool Team. It is from this pool team that players will be selected to participate in the various tournaments and events to represent Region II ODP both domestically and internationally. Congratulations Reid and Austin on making the ODP regional pool. These two players are an example of what it takes to reach the next level, they work hard at every practice and also play hard in every game that I have coached them. They are also very competitive in all aspects of the game. For Reid to make this team the last two years is a testament to his work ethic and desire. Again congratulations Reid and Austin, said Carl Rose Boys Director of Coaching for the Springfield S.C. Both players will now begin preparations for their respective High School teams this fall. Harbach will be a Sophomore at Springfield Catholic High School and Hart will be a Sophomore at Glendale High School. At the conclusion of the High School season they will rejoin their club team Springfield S.C. 93/94 as they look to build upon a successful Midwest Regional League campaign and a MYSA State Cup Semi-Finalist appearance.

SSC Indoor Facility Advertising Opportunities When the SSC Indoor Facility opened in the fall of 2008 it was not only a tremendous opportunity for the players and teams of the club, it also provided businesses with an avenue to advertise and show support for the Springfield Soccer Club. Immediately there was a show of support for the Springfield Soccer Club and advertisers/supporters were able to advertise to over 400 soccer-playing families. The facility has also been host to a Summer 3 v 3 League, Camps, Clinics, Birthday Parties, SSC Indoor InnerLeague as well as practices. IT IS EXPECTED THAT FOR THE NEXT 120 DAYS THERE WILL BE MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN THE FACILITY FOR 100 OF THEM! This includes the SSC 24 Hour Marathon Game where there will be local media coverage once again to cover this wonderful event. There are advertising packages for all types of businesses. All advertisements are for 12 months. If you know of a business that could benefit from advertising in the SSC Indoor Facility-LET THEM KNOW! SSC in the Professional ranks The Springfield Soccer Club has long been producing players of a high quality. It seems each year s success breeds even more success the following year. For the first time, SSC had 2 players spend time with different professional teams this past summer. This will hopefully spurn current members of our program to achieve, and hopefully surpass what was done. Justin Alford spent the summer playing and practicing with 2 different teams from Major League Soccer. Justin went out to Los Angeles, CA and spent a few weeks with Chivas USA. It was a great learning experience spending time with their head coach, Preki who spent time with the US National team and scored the game winner against Brazil. When Justin returned from LA, he then traveled up to Kansas City and spent several months with the Wizards. Justin was able to play with Springfield native Jack Jewsbury. Justin was able to train daily with the first team, and play in a few games with the reserve team. It was a fantastic learning experience and one that Justin plans to share with the kids he coaches currently with SSC. Patrick Carver traveled a little further to play professionally. He spent the summer down in New Zealand playing for Upper Hutt City. Not only did Pat play with the 1 st team, he also helped coach some of the youth teams. He was also able to work some camps for the club while there. Carver was a central figure for the Upper Hutt City 1 st team scoring several goals throughout the campaign. Coach Michael Seabolt also spent some time down with Upper Hutt. Seabolt was able to help with some coaching clinics, camps, and scout some talent as well for MSU. Congratulations to both Justin and Pat for following every child s dream and playing with the pros!!

Springfield S.C. 96/97 Red Boys Capture US Club Soccer Region D The Springfield Soccer Club recently added some new hardware to the club trophy case as the Under 12 Red Boys returned from Indianapolis with the US Club Soccer Region D Under 12 Premier Division Championship. The event was held June 27-30, 2009 and consisted of teams from ten states. The Springfield S.C. 95/96 I Girls competed in the Under 13 Premier Division where they finished with a record in the bracket. The girls started the event with a strong 4-0 win over Empire United SA from New York. In the second game the girls held a 1-0 advantage before giving up two goals in a 1-2 loss to FC Pride 96 Elite. The final game of the weekend saw the girls come back from a 0-2 deficit to tie the eventual Regional Champions FC Pittsburgh 2-2. Overall, it was a good weekend for the team. We played well, learned some lessons that will help us in these types of events in the future. In typical fashion this team competed until the end, said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations. The first game of the event for the boys saw them take on Sockers FC Chicago in a tight battle. A second half goal by Josh Ellerbee proved to be the difference as the final score was 1-0. The first 15 minutes of the game we were defending quite a bit and trying to get used to the speed of play. They were very technical and sharp and we did well to get through the first half with the score being 0-0, said Alumbaugh. On Sunday the opponent was Windy City Pride, another club out of Chicago. Another close game as the boys once again walked out with a 1-0 victory after a late goal by Alec Gathright proved to be the difference. The final game of the weekend saw the boys play Thoroughbreds SC from Lexington, Kentucky. Down 1-0 at half the boys battled back with the equalizing goal by Tommy Giovanni to secure the tie and capture the US Club Soccer Region D Under 12 Premier Division Championship. It was a great weekend of soccer where the team demonstrated an ability to defend well as a group, create chances and finish close games. I m very proud of them and their preparation work during the last month to get ready to compete here and it paid off, said Alumbaugh. Team Members included: Cameron Durst, Cole Ruggeri, Zach Miller, Logan Tyler, Brett Garner, Ty Maness, Tyson Batiste, Hunter Wallace, Tommy Giovanni, Jack Grinnell, Phillip Starns, Jack Simpson, Josh Ellerbee, Quinn Ruggeri and Alec Gathright. Coaches Jeremy Alumbaugh and Tom Giovanni.

SSC Fall League run-down The Heartland Kansas City is off to a fast start as the SSC teams are again to be reckoned with. The girls teams have shown a lot of success with strong showings in their recent results. Each weekend the girls have played games, their level of play has increased. The boys are much the same. They continue to show themselves as top contenders in their divisions. Keep up the hard work. SSC 92/93 Girls are coming on very strong as they prepare for their upcoming showcases in November and December. They are currently in League play SSC 94/95 Girls are currently in League as well. They continue to show the importance of playing hard in every game. Each weekend has shown improvement on their part. SSC 95/96 I Girls are 4-0 in the first division in Heartland League play, and sit atop the table all alone. They look to continue their success as they prepare for the second half of the Fall season and the very tough SLSG Fall Girls Classic. SSC 96/97 Girls are in League play. They are coming off a very strong showing this past weekend. They look to continue to gain more confidence as the second half of the season is right around the corner. SSC 95/96 I Boys continue to improve playing in the first division. With a tough schedule the boys look to gain success with positive results in the upcoming weekends. SSC 96/97 I Boys are 2-2 in league play, with two positive results this past weekend the team is looking very confident going into their final two weekends of League play in KC. SSC has shown itself as a force in the local Lake Country League. With many teams still unbeaten, SSC looks to be a dominate force in upcoming League games. We look forward to more positive results in the second half of the fall league. While you are out supporting your team stop by and support many of our other teams in club. 6 Get Out and Support Local College Soccer One of the best ways for young players to improve their game is to get out and watch other players; especially when those players are competing at a high level of play. The Springfield Soccer Club is pleased to partner with the following upcoming local college games. 7 SSC Indoor I InnerLeague Returns Based on the success of last year s SSC Indoor I InnerLeague, the club will once again place all players and teams Under 9-14 into its own InnerLeague during the Indoor I session. The league will have all games played on Saturdays and Sundays so families can plan around the games and not have to worry about games being played on different days of the week. Teams will continue to train during the week once a week during Indoor I. Also, there will be no games around the Thanksgiving and Holiday breaks. Feedback last year on the InnerLeague was very positive from players, parents and coaches. "I like InnerLeague because of the fast pace, and quickness of the games. It helped us with the transition to spring when you play in more competitive tournaments. Since teams are divided up it also allows you to play with different players." said Logan Tyler Springfield S.C. 96/97 I Boys. Please note that the concept behind the InnerLeague is to provide an environment where player development is the top priority. Games will be competitive and standings are kept, but the basis is to promote better individual play. Also, players are not to play on any outside teams during Indoor I at Lake Country Soccer. This league is the league for them to play during Indoor I The InnerLeague was a tremendous success last year. The level of the games was higher than what we would have received elsewhere in the community. Having a facility to train in all winter long and during inclement weather has been a tremendous benefit to each player in the club, but adding the element of the InnerLeague, brought an improved intensity to our winter sessions last year. We have seen many players emerge as much more confident players; they have developed into dangerous players that now have the speed of play that it will take to have success at the next level. I am looking forward to round 2! Jeff Reinold, SSC Coach New Integrity Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic Opened this Month Integrity Athletic Performance and Physical Therapy opened a new outpatient clinic this month not far from Lake Country and SSC on Eastgate near 65 and 44. Integrity APPT is owned by Cory and Jill Carr who have been with the club for 8 years, Cory as the Director of Senior Boys and Jill as the Accounting Department. Cory is a Physical Therapist and an expert in orthopedic injuries who knows how to get kids and adults healthy. He does acute and chronic injury screens for $30 at the SSC facility or at the clinic. They will accept all insurance providers and will match all in-network benefits so it never costs you more to choose Integrity APPT for your Physical Therapy. You can contact them at or You can look at pictures of the new clinic at IntegrityAPPT.com. 24 Hour Game It s hard to believe the fall soccer season is well underway. Before long it will time to turn our attention to indoor soccer and training. With the change in season comes thinking about our 3 rd Annual 24 Hour Soccer Marathon Game. The past two years have been very successful and we want to continue to build on that success. This is a fun event where we continue to build on our club atmosphere while continuing to give back to the community. In the past two years, we have been able to donate over $24,000 back to our co-sponsors as well as donate products. If anyone has a charity that they would like the committee to consider for the 3 rd Annual 24 Hour Soccer Marathon Game, please alumbaugh@springfieldsportsclub.com with your nominations. Be sure to include some basic information about the charity and the role they have in the Springfield area as well as a contact name and . In order to be considered information must be ed by October 16, 2009.

Q & A with SSC Alumni: What was the biggest transition to college (not soccer wise)? My biggest transition into college life was time management. I am not very good with planning my day out, but once I started my first day of classes I quickly learned that I needed to organize my time better. It makes it even harder being a collegiate athlete with all the travel, practice, film, and team festivities. What is the biggest difference between youth soccer and college soccer? I feel that there are two major differences I need to mention. First of all, the speed of play in college is much faster and sharper. This makes a player have to know what he wants to do with the ball before he receives it every time. Also, each player at the college level is here for a reason: they are here because they are the best and they have dreams, no matter D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or Junior College. What is a typical week like in season? We usually have Sunday as a recovery day; AKA homework, rest, rehab, socializing. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are light for the most part because I only have one class, work study, and practice. Tuesdays, and Thursdays are stressful due to the fact I have six hours of class starting at Eight in the morning and either a game or practice at night. Lastly, Saturdays are usually conference games. Applying what you know now about college soccer is there anything you would have changed or focused more on during your youth soccer career? I feel like I lost my creativity in my last few years of high school. I am almost scared to try new things for the fear of being yelled at or failing. I wish I would have practiced by myself more and brought what I taught myself into team practices and games. Most importantly, improve your weaknesses, but never stop working on what you are great at. Best player/team you have gone against at college level? The best team I have gone against at the college level is York College (PA). Jon Ports, who was runner up for Player of the Year last year in D3 and first team All-American his sophomore and junior seasons, is the best player I have faced. How did SSC prepare you for college (on/off the field)? I feel my situation was special. Brice Hunt (SSC Alumni), Justin Scicluna (SSC Alumni), and I traveled a 3 hour and 30 minute round trip to each practice that lasted about half of that time. We went on school nights and weekends, sometimes returning home at midnight. This situation taught all of us the importance of commitment and passion to the game of soccer. Also, I feel the level of coaching was far superior to what I had ever had previously. Any advice for those starting the recruiting process and those who will begin college in the fall of 2010? Don t wait to be recruited! You have to put yourself out there. I contacted around fifty different soccer coaches on my own. It may seem like a waste of time, but I know so many more skilled players than me who never got the chance because they didn t put their name out there. This isn t college football they rarely come and hand pick you. I narrowed it down to my top five schools that wanted me to play for them and chose based on what I thought was important to me. To those who have already chose a school: Don t be too worried about it, but make sure you stick to the summer packet your coach sends you in order to make a good impression during preseason.
