2 - Responsible on gathering people to join the volunteering group. Service Objectives CARE SINGAPORE was set up to provide a wide variety of programmes for at- risk youths. Their activities help to empower these youths, encourage them to turn dreams into reality as well as giving them a purpose in life. The organisation takes a long-term view and focuses on impacting young lives by providing them access to social, educational and community support programmes. By doing so, it aims to develop young people who are resilient, purposeful and willing to contribute back to society. In this service-learning project, we hope to encourage the youths to take on a more active lifestyle through the introduction of various sports such as captain s ball, table tennis and badminton in a 2-day camp. With an active lifestyle, the youths will be able to maintain their health as well. Moreover, sports emphasises on concentration, willpower and teamwork. This serves to develop the character of the youths, especially their soft skills. The second aim of this project is to raise awareness amongst the volunteers of this project of the help required by CARE Singapore. Hopefully, after the end of the project, more youths will volunteer their time with CARE Singapore. How the project meets the stated service objectives We will be gathering volunteers from Hwa Chong Institution (College Section) to help facilitate the camp activities. With the recruitment of volunteers, we raise the awareness level of the aid required by CARE Singapore within the school community. With a raised level of awareness in the school community, students will be more encouraged to volunteer at this organisation in the future. Learning objectives for volunteers Starting from scratch, our organizing team will learn how to plan and execute our Service- Learning project, putting our ideas into actions. We will also learn about the true values of serving the community and not just to complete an impressive project. In the process of executing the project, it is inevitable to meet with many challenges so we will learn to persevere and be resilient. Furthermore, we will also learn how to work and cooperate with our organising team and this skill will definitely come in handy when we embark into our working field in the future. Logistics Expected number of volunteers: 16-20

They will each take turns to shoot from various marked points on the court, they can only proceed to the next marked point when they manage to shoot a successful ball into the hoop. The fastest group to finish shooting wins. In the event that the students have insufficient strength facilitators can take the initiative to omit the further marked areas and just carry out the game with those marked areas nearer to the hoop min: They will then play a basketball game in the half court. Facilitators should also brief about the rules simply beforehand. Buffer: Facillitators can teach them how to do lay-ups. (basketball technique) 2 Soccer Cone Obstacle Course: 8 cones will be placed on the ground over 10m. Students will have to dribble around the cones. Every student will have to take part in this activity and the aim is for the whole team to complete the obstacle course in the shortest time possible. (Refer to Annex 1.3 for layout of cones) Goal Course: There will be cones placed various distances from the start line. Each student will be given 5 tries to get the ball through the cones. The students must complete the goal course in increasing difficulty levels. If the students manage to complete all 3 levels, bonus points will be given. (Refer to Annex 1.3 for layout of cones)
8 3 Skipping Each team must skip a total of 600 times. Each person can only skip a maximum of 150 times. The faster the team finishes the task, the more points they will be awarded. Bonus round: The whole team will skip together. Bonus points will be awarded for each successful skip without any team member tripping over the rope. 4 Table Tennis Groups will compete to have a ping pong race. The fastest team wins. 0-5min: Groups all have a go at bouncing the ping pong ball on the paddle. Facilitators will demonstrate then tell them the rules of the ping pong race. 5-20min: Each group member will take turns to bounce and balance the ping pong on the paddle well walking from one end to the other end of the play court. Rules are as follows: The ping pong ball can only fall to the floor for a maximum number of 2 times. If it falls to the ground more than twice, the team member has to restart. Fastest group to finish transporting 10 ping pong balls across the play court wins. Buffer: Facilitators can introduce technique the flipping of the paddle while bouncing the ping pong ball and get the students to try and do the same. 5 Captain s ball Each team will send out a team player. One of them will be the Captain while the other will be the thrower. The Captain will hold a bucket and stand in the area that has been marked out. He can only move in a straight line in the area. The thrower will then attempt to throw the ball into the bucket. After the thrower scores, another team member from each team will take their
9 END STAR places. The teams will swap places after 10 minutes. 6 Volleyball The students will first learn how to hit the volleyball the proper way, using beach ball. After that, teams will take turns to play defensive or attacking. The attacking team will have one member trying to shoot across into a bin using techniques taught previously. 2 other members will move around along a line with the bin to try to catch the ball shot by their teammate. The defensive team will have 2 members at any time to block the ball from scoring into the bin. The teams will play for 15 minutes. Players can be substituted in at any point in time, as long as they inform the station master. The points that each team scored will then be added to the points that they earned in other games. 7 Hula hoop Each team will send out one team member. The team member will then roll the hula hoop forward until he reaches the cone placed about 15m from the starting line. At the cone, the student will have to skip using the hula hoop 5 times. The student will then roll the hula hoop back to the starting point and pass the hula hoop to the next team member. The aim for the team to complete the task as fast as possible. 8 Badminton Each team will send out a team member. Both of them will be given a tennis racket and a tennis ball each. They are required to run to a certain point and return to the same position without dropping the ball. Once they return to the original position, the next team members in line will take their places. *The station masters will first introduce the sport to the students before starting the games.
