31 Coaching Staff KATRINA DOWD Head Coach Second Season Northwestern 10 Katrina Dowd was named the second head coach in Oregon lacrosse history on June 15, 2016, bringing with her elite credentials as one of the best players in women s lacrosse history and a championship coach. In 2017, her first season at the helm of the Ducks, Dowd led Oregon to a 9-8 overall record and a 5-3 conference record, good for fourth in the MPSF. The Ducks started the year 5-1 before finishing 9-8 to reach the MPSF Tournament. Known for her dynamic offensive ability as a player, Dowd led the Ducks to a tremendous offensive season in which they tallied 331 points, second-most in program single-season history, 214 goals and 117 assists. Sophomore Shannon Williams broke the UO single-season records for points (72) and goals (51), and junior Cambi Cukar recorded 42 assists to become the UO all-time leader with 124. The Ducks landed three players on all-mpsf teams, including Williams and senior Bella Pyne on the first-team. Dowd joined the Ducks after spending four seasons at North Carolina as the offensive coordinator and draw specialist coach, helping lead the Tar Heels the their first ever national title in 2013 and a second title in With Dowd at the helm of the offense, the Tar Heels ranked No. 5 in the nation in scoring with goals per game in 2016, and No. 8 in draw controls per game with As a player, Dowd is cemented as one of the top offensive players in international lacrosse history, scoring a World Cup record 26 goals in 2013 to lead the U.S. to a gold medal while earning All-World honors and the distinction of Best Women s Player for 2013 by Lacrosse Magazine. Dowd was a member of the U.S. national team from Dowd will continue to make an impact on the national level in 2017 when she serves as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the World Cup. Dowd was also a member of the Long Island Sound in the summer of 2016 in the inaugural season for the United Women s Lacrosse League, leading her team to the league title. In her collegiate playing career, Dowd was a three-time NCAA champion at Northwestern and finished her career as the all-time NCAA Tournament leader in goals (45). Dowd claimed first-team All-American honors during her junior and senior seasons and was named the 2010 IWLCA Attacker of the Year and Tewaaraton Award finalist as a senior, finishing the season with 110 points on 77 goals and 33 assists. After completing her collegiate career, Dowd spent one season as a volunteer assistant in 2011 with Denver, and helped Syracuse reach the NCAA finals as an assistant in 2012 before heading to North Carolina. Dowd earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern in 2010, graduating with a B.S. in communication studies. caused turnovers per game. BECCA BLOCK Assistant Coach Second Season Syracuse 10 Becca Block joined the Ducks as an assistant coach on July 20, 2016, bringing with her a decorated resume both as a player and a coach. In 2017, Block helped the Ducks to a 9-8 overall record and a 5-3 conference record to reach the MPSF Tournament. Block was instrumental in constructing a defense that allowed 12 goals per game and was 32nd in the nation with Block arrived in Eugene after spending 2016 as an assistant at Florida, where she helped guide a Gator defense that finished the season 12th in the nation in scoring defense at 7.45 goals per game. Block began her coaching career at Vermont in 2014, and spent 2015 as an assistant at Michigan before heading to Gainesville. As a player, Block is one of the premier defenders in women s lacrosse. She has played five years with the U.S. National Team after first making the team in 2012, and was the 2013 IWLCA Defender of the Year and an All-American as a senior at Syracuse. During her four-year college career, Block helped lead the Orange to the national title game in 2012 and a Final Four berth in 2010, while Big East All-Academic honors twice. Block played professionally for the Long Island Sound in the summer of 2016 in the inaugural season for the United Women s Lacrosse League, competing alongside Dowd. Block also played with Dowd and fellow assistant Michelle Tumolo on the national team, and will compete with Tumolo this summer at the 2017 World Cup. Block also spent four years at Syracuse with Tumolo, including the 2012 national title run when Dowd was an assistant for the Orange. In addition to Block s collegiate playing and coaching experience, she was also a coach and counselor for the Syracuse University Elite Lacrosse Camps and helped organize and run the Laxfest Lacrosse Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y., from Block graduated from Syracuse in 2013 with a bachelor s degree in health and exercise science.
