Denver Women s Lacrosse DU_WLAX NOTES LOOKING BACK TO LAST TIME OUT [-/RV] Denver outscored Vanderbilt 6-1 in the second half to defeat the Commodores by a score of in the regular season finale Kendra Lanuza led the Pioneers with four goals (tied a career high) and a game-high two assists Julia Feiss added two goals, while Kennedy Milburn, Quintin Hoch-Bullen, Bea Behrins, Elizabeth Behrins and Riley Eggeman each tallied a goal Eggeman and Hoch-Bullen were also credited with one assist to accompany Lanuza s two. Eggeman had a team- and career-high four draw controls and three caused turnovers (tying her career high) and Milburn anchored the defense with four ground balls to go with her goal In net, Carson Gregg made six saves, standing as a last line of defense behind a defense that didn t allow a Vanderbilt goal for the first 24:14 of the second half, allowing just one goal in the second half Denver led Vanderbilt in shots by a slim margin of (18-16 in shots on goal), as well as in caused turnovers and in ground balls. The Pioneers also had fewer turnovers in the contest, HISTORY VS GEORGETOWN The Pioneers are 1-4 versus the Hoyas with their lone win coming the last time they met in the BIG EAST tournament The last two meetings against Georgetown were one-goal games, with each team going 1-1 and scoring a total of 16 goals In their last meeting on April 4, Denver scored the last three goals in the game to pull within one with 3:34 remaining, but couldn t get the tying goal as they fell to Georgetown by a score of 8-7 Georgetown opened the game with the first three goals and led 5-3 at the half Riley Eggeman led with a team-high two goals, two points and four ground balls Elizabeth Behrins and Quintin Hoch-Bullen had the two assists for the Pioneers Maddie Baum had a game-high seven draw controls, securing seven of the team s 10 Carson Gregg made nine saves in the game while holding the Hoyas to 0-for-6 on free-position shots The Pioneers outshot the Hoyas 27-24, but Georgetown had the advantage in shots on goal (17-15). Baum and the Pioneers controlled the draw circle, winning the draw control battle 10-3 for DU. Denver was also the more successful team in clears, going 20-for-21, compared to Georgetown who went 21-for-27. However, GU had the edge in ground balls at 19-8 and caused turnovers (9-6) SCOUTING THE HOYAS Georgetown went 4-4 in non-conference play while going 8-1 in BIG EAST competition. GU s only conference loss was to Florida, Like Denver, the Hoyas have not played a neutral game this season Georgetown ranks third in the BIG EAST in turnovers per game (15.65) and shots on goal per game (23.76), fourth in shots/ game (31.41) and sixth in save percentage (.427) and saves per game (9.18) Of their 222 goals, 41 were on free-position shots and 130 were unassisted, and have outscored their opponents Taylor Gebhardt leads the Hoyas with 49 goals, nine free-position goals and 59 points, while Emily Ehle has a team-high 19 assists Natalia Lynch leads the team with 66 draw controls, 21 caused turnovers and is second on the team in ground balls (31) and freeposition goals (six) Haelle Chomo has started all 17 games for GU, allowing 178 goals and making 140 saves on 439 shots faced in 908:47 minutes in net. She has a goals allowed average of and a save percentage of.440, and leads the team with 38 ground balls. Micheline DiNardo (111:28 minutes, 31 goals allowed, 16 saves, 59 shots faced,.340 save %, G.A.A.) has played in seven games As a unit, the goaltenders are allowing 209 goals with 156 saves on 498 shots faced, for a save % of.427 and a G.A.A. of DENVER S SCHEDULE The Pioneers have played or will face six opponents on their schedule who were ranked in the latest media poll, and six teams ranked in the IWLCA poll, with wins against current [11/11] Stanford and [14/15] Colorado NEUTRAL SITE GAMES Denver is all-time in neutral-site games DU s last neutral-site game was May 6, 2017 against Florida in the BIG EAST Championship in Philadelphia, in which the Pioneers lost Their last neutral-site win was May 4, 2017 against Georgetown (9-8) in the BIG EAST semifinal, also in Philadelphia ON THE ROAD Denver is 5-2 on the road (4-1 in BIG EAST play) in 2018, scoring 82 goals and allowing 68 goals In the last five years, DU is away from Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium In Coach Kelly s tenure at DU, the Pioneers are on the road FINDING NEW CONTRIBUTORS This season, freshmen Quintin Hoch-Bullen and Eliza Radochonski have accounted for 53 goals and 80 points, including hat tricks from Radochonski against Stanford, UConn and Florida and seven hat tricks from Hoch-Bullen against Niagara, Temple, UConn, Colorado, Cincinnati, Marquette, and Florida, including four-straight As a class, freshmen have tallied 99 pts (66 G, 33 A). Hoch-Bullen (14) and Radochonski (13) are second and third, respectively, on the team in assists. Hoch-Bullen is second on the team in points (48), goals (34) and free-position goals (10). Radochonski is third in free-position goals (4), fourth in points (32) and fifth in goals (19) Bea Behrins had her first career hat trick against Villanova Caroline Wiseman scored her first career goal against San Diego State, Hannah Liddy scored her first goal against Niagara, and Bea Behrins and Sammie Morton both scored their first collegiate goal against Butler Sophomore transfer Molly Little has scored 11 goals and added three assists, and is second on the team with 45 draw controls, starting in 14 games for the Crimson and Gold The Pioneers had goals from six different players, and eight GAME 17 denver VS GEORGETOWN 2

3 different players recorded a point in the victory over Stanford. Against Louisville, seven different players scored a goal and eight different players recorded a point. In the game against San Diego State, 10 different players recorded at least one point, against Virginia Tech, seven different Pioneers recorded a point, against Niagara 10 different players recorded a point and against UConn seven different players recorded a point.in the game against Colorado, six different players scored a goal and seven recorded a point. Against Butler, 10 different players scored a goal and 12 different players recorded a point, and at Cincinnati, eight different players scored a goal and nine recorded a point. Against Marquette, nine players scored a goal Maddie Baum has taken the majority of the draws, recording 82, which is second in school history for most draw controls by an individual in a single-season Besides Carson Gregg in net, freshman midfielder Caroline Wiseman started in her first career collegiate game against Stanford, as did Maddie Baum, and Molly Litlle started her first game as a Pioneer against Louisville. Katy Miele started her first game against Temple and Amelia Cole made her first appearance in net against Butler, with four saves and one goal allowed in 33:38 minutes (1.78 GAA,.800 save %) MILESTONE ALERT Elizabeth Behrins became the 18th player to reach the 100 career point milestone in the second half of the Colorado game, and the second Pioneer to reach it this season (Kendra Lanuza reached it Feb. 23) Julia Feiss became the latest Pioneer to record 100 career points with a free-position goal in the first half against Georgetown With the win against Colorado, Liza Kelly recorded her 150th win as the head coach at Denver Carson Gregg recorded the 100th save of her career in the second half against Marquette Maddie Baum s 82 draw controls this season surpassed Kiki Boone, who had 81 in 2013, and is 11 behind Ellie Knott, who holds the school record with 93 achieved last season SMOOTH TRANSITION This is Denver s second year in the BIG EAST after spending 13 seasons as a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation DU advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game against Florida in its first year in the conference after going 7-2 in the regular season and defeating Georgetown 9-8 in the semifinals Denver owns a record against BIG EAST opponents, having faced Vanderbilt the most (eight times, 5-3 record), but is still searching for its first win against Florida (0-6) 2018 BIG EAST Denver was picked to finish second in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll with 73 total points and one first-place vote DU had two representatives on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in junior attackers Julia Feiss and Kendra Lanuza (unanimous selection) Carson Gregg earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in weeks one, two and seven, and Julia Feiss was named Attacker of the Week in week five. Quintin Hoch-Bullen was named Freshman of the Week in weeks seven and eight and Kendra Lanuza won the final NOTES Attacker of the Week award of the season Denver leads the BIG EAST in goals against average (9.56) with 153 goals allowed, is third in save percentage (.456), fourth in fewest turnovers per game (16.94) and fifth in caused turnovers per game (10.0) SENIORS The Pioneers have five seniors on the roster this year Riley Eggeman will help man the midfield, Katy Miele has moved to goalkeeper, joined by Emilie Arrix, and captains Caitlin Derry and Hanna Bocklet will be a part of the attack and draw specialist groups, respectively Eggeman has started in 43 games throughout her DU career and appeared in 60 games. Senior Layne Voorhees and sophomore Kendra Lanuza were unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST selections and the duo would also earned spots on the IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region first and second teams, respectively. Sophomore Elizabeth Behrins and senior goalkeeper Maddy Stevenson were both named to the Second Team All-BIG EAST in leading the Pioneers to their best record in three years. In 2017, the Pioneers finished 4th in the nation in scoring defense (8.44), 8th in caused turnovers per game (11.61) and 11th in scoring margin (4.83). Denver led the BIG EAST in scoring defense, while on an individual basis, Voorhees led the conference in caused turnovers by game (2.33), Julia Feiss led in shots on goal per game (4.94) and Stevenson led in goals-against average at On March 12, 2017, Kelly recorded her 200th career win with a 14-4 victory over Vermont. In 2016, DU went.500 at 9-9, while in 2015, Kelly led the Pioneers to a 13-5 finish and their fourth straight winning season. Kelly led the Pioneers to their second-straight NCAA Tournament in 2014, where they beat Jacksonville to advance to the Round of 16. Denver went undefeated in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for the second season in a row in 2014 and finished the year with a 19-2 record. Denver completed the 2013 season with an 18-3 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the MPSF. DU was ranked No. 16 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Crimson and Gold ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers (11.76), fourth in win percentage (.857), fifth in points (433.0) and ninth in scoring offense (13.9). Denver broke a team record, set a season before, by winning 15-straight games. In 2012, the Pioneers posted a 12-3 overall record and a 6-1 record in the MPSF. DU was No. 1 in the nation in caused turnovers (12.6 per game), 10th in scoring offense (13.93 goals per game) and 11th in scoring margin (4.2). The Pioneers also set a team record by winning 12-straight games. The Pioneers went 13-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the MPSF in Denver advanced to the MPSF Championship Tournament final, which DU hosted at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, but was Assistant Coach Tee Ladouceur Alma Mater: Syracuse, 11 Experience: First Season edged by Stanford in double overtime. Denver ended the season ranked No. 20 in the nation. Kelly led the Pioneers to a record of 13-6 overall and 5-0 in the MPSF, concluding the 2008 season ranked No. 19 in the nation. In 2007, Kelly steered DU to a 16-3 mark and a 5-0 sweep of the MPSF schedule, ending the season ranked No. 15. In Kelly s first two years at DU she led her players to success. Kristie Leggio (2007) and Kelly O Connell (2008) picked up IWLCA All-America honors during their careers and were named MPSF Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, respectively. In addition to her duties with Denver s team, Kelly serves on the NCAA Division I Women s Lacrosse committee. Prior to DU, Kelly served five years as the head coach at Boston University. The Baltimore native posted an impressive (.660) mark as head coach at BU, including consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and America East regular season and tournament championships in 2005 and The Terriers finished in the top-10 in the national rankings in Kelly s final two seasons, and Kelly was named America East Coach of the Year twice during her five-year tenure at BU. During Kelly s tenure, 24 players were named to the America East Honor Roll, while five received selection to the Commissioner s High Honor Roll. In addition, six Terriers received IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades. During her five seasons at BU, 15 different Terriers earned a combined 26 selections to the allconference first team, while 11 players received a combined 19 regional All-America accolades, including the first two first-team All-Americans in program history. Before taking over the reins at BU, Kelly served under Linda Ohrin as an assistant coach at Towson University for three years. Kelly coached the Tigers defense and assisted in scouting and recruiting. As a player, Kelly was a standout midfielder at the University of Delaware from , earning All-America honors in 1996, 1997 and 1998, before playing for the United States National team from Kelly was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Baltimore Chapter of U.S Lacrosse Hall of Fame in Kelly has held a number of coaching positions. In addition to traveling throughout the U.S. teaching lacrosse, she has been an ambassador for the game of lacrosse all over the world.
