The Blue Jays are coming off a win over the Patriots of George Mason in their season-opener Saturday. The Hoyas enter today s game after a thorough 17-2 win over crosstown rival Georgetown on Saturday. Series History: Today s game is the 13th meeting between Hopkins and Georgetown, and fifth consecutive, in a series that dates back to The all-time series is tied at 6-6, but the Hoyas have won three straight and four of the last five meetings. For the second straight season, Hopkins and Georgetown will square off on national television as ESPNU will televise today s game from Homewood Field. Last Time Out: Eight different Blue Jays got in on the scoring, including three freshmen, as Johns Hopkins defeated George Mason on Saturday in its season opener. After seeing a five-goal lead cut to just two with 13:53 remaining in the game, Hopkins scored five unanswered, fueled by a pair from sophomore Brooke Foussadier, to secure the win. Foussadier led the Blue Jays with a career-high four goals, while junior Paige Ibello scored three goals and added two assists for a game-high five points. Red, White and Blue: Three players with ties to Johns Hopkins were selected to the U.S. Developmental Team in the fall. Junior defender Angela Hughes and freshman middie Colleen McCaffrey, along with 2008 graduate Lauren Schwarzmann were named to the team. In fact, McCaffrey was the only player without college experience selected for the U.S. National Team pool when it was announced in August. You Look Familiar: Two members of the Georgetown coaching staff have ties to the Johns Hopkins women s lacrosse program. Head coach Ricky Fried, now in his fifth season, spent nine seasons as an assistant under Blue Jay head coach Janine Tucker. Assistant coach Erin (Wellner) Hellmold is a 2002 graduate of Hopkins and played four seasons under Tucker. A two-time captain, she ranks fourth all-time in JHU history in career assists (91) and sixth in points (217) and ground balls (189). In February: Johns Hopkins improved to 7-1 all-time in the month of February with its win over George Mason on Saturday. The Blue Jays only loss in the second month of the year came in 2008, at the hands of the Patriots. Saturday s game matched the earliest start date in program history. In 2007, Hopkins also opened on Feb. 21. Welcome Back Brianna: Sophomore Brianna Cronin played in her first game on Saturday since suffering a torn ACL on March 27, The middie scored nine goals in eight games last season and picked up where she left off on Saturday, coming off the bench to score in the win over George Mason. Scouting the Hoyas: The Hoyas return nine starters and 25 letterwinners to a talented roster while adding seven newcomers to the mix in Georgetown lost just three players to graduation and returns its top three scorers. Junior Molly Ford led the Hoyas with five goals, while Sarah Seats and Jacqueline Giles added three apiece. Junior Caitlin Formby earned the win in goal with two saves and Lauren Thomas played the final 21:58 for the Hoyas, also making two saves. Senior defender Jordan Trautman, a 2008 Second Team All-American, and junior midfielder Ashby Kaestner, a 2008 First Team All-American, were both named to the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy watch list by the women s selection committee. Family Affair: The Johns Hopkins lacrosse program has become a family affair in recent years, with four sets of sisters in the last seven seasons. Joining her sister, junior attacker Sam Schrum, this season is freshman middie Megan. In addition, Gavin Crisafulli, a freshman on the Johns Hopkins men s lacrosse team, is the third Crisafulli to play on Homewood. He joins older sisters Anne 05 and Meghan 07, who both played under head coach Janine Tucker. Meghan 02 and Molly 06 Burnett began the trend, followed by the Crisafulli sisters. Next up were the Schwarzmann sisters, Ashley 06 and Lauren 08. Kristen Miller 05 followed in her brother Pat s ( 02) footsteps choosing to play college lacrosse for Hopkins. Marlena Wittelsberger 04 followed her father s path. Franz Wittelsberger 76 was a four-time All-American for Hopkins and stills rank third all-time in career goals with 151. Alex Nolan 07 followed in both her father and her mother s footsteps. Her father Bill 74 was a twotime All-American for the Blue Jays and a member of the 1974 national championship team. Her mother Shellee played for the Hopkins women s lacrosse team. Sister Act: First year assistant coach Jen Kasper squared off against her younger sister Kelly for the first time from the sidelines on Saturday. Jen came to Hopkins after a one-year stint at Stanford, where she served as the co-head coach in She helped guide the Cardinal to a 12-8 record and a fourth straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament Championship. The Cardinal placed five players on the 2008 MPSF All-Conference Team and 15 players were named to the MPSF All-Academic Team. Kelly is in her first season as an assistant coach with George Mason after a stellar playing career at Maryland. She was a four-year starter at midfield for the Terps and a three-time All-American and capped her career in 2008 as a finalist for both the Tewaaraton and Honda Awards. All-Time Record: The 2009 season marks the 34th season of women s lacrosse at Johns Hopkins and the Blue Jays post an all-time record of (.624). As a Division I program, Johns Hopkins boasts a (.643) record in 11 seasons. The Blue Jays have been ranked in the IWLCA top 20 for 58 consecutive weeks, dating back to March 8, Eight of the Blue Jays 16 opponents this season are ranked in this week s poll, including five in the top 10. We re Going Streaking: Three Johns Hopkins players enter today s game with active point streaks. Junior attacker Sam Schrum has tallied atleast one point in her last five games, in a streak that dates back to last season. Junior attacker Brett Bathras carries a three-game point streak into today s game and sophomore atttacker Brooke Foussadier has atleast one point in each of her last two games. Preseason Honors: Junior defendern Angela Hughes and junior attacker Sam Schrum were named to the 2009 ALC Preseason All- Conference team. Hughes anchored a Hopkins defense that held its opponents to 9.63 goals per game. In addition, the Blue Jays held five of their opponents to seven goals or less last season. Schrum led the Blue Jays in goals (30) and points (36) and was second in draw controls last season. She is Hop-
